Oh boohoo they named an animal that's been fucking dead for millions of years after a fictional creature that was already based off of said animal. Someone stop the world's rotation and alert the press this is clearly a major injustice in the Paleontological community.
Sigh. Pterodactylus reffers to a specific genus of small to medium pterosaur. And I didn't say you can't use two Greek words.
And this is a completely seperate species of Pterosaur so I'm not sure why your panties are in a bunch over this. No but you were clearly implying that because it is a pokemon it wasn't using greek words when Aerodactyl is actually greek.
I wasn't implying that. I don't think a pterosaur should be named after some Japanese game or whatever.
Its not like it was random though, the creature in question is clearly based off the pterosaur. Also, does the fact the charater is Japanese make it any less legitimate?
random Japanese ga--Yeah I'm not paying the troll toll on this one. *kicks door open and leaves thread*
Well it's not unprecedented. Dracorex hogwartsia, a dinosaur, literally translates to "dragon king of Hogwarts" (Harry Potter reference). I think it's cool.
There's a trilobite called Han Solo. Not "Trilobitus hansoloii", straight up HAN SOLO. Aerodactyl(us) at least sounds like a 'dinosaur' name. Anyways, I saw "Scolopaciceps" and first thought "wait they named a pterodactyl after the centipede 'Mon?" Also, I'm a touch disappointed Aerodactylus doesn't look particularly fearsome like his namesake, or really all that distinct from other pterosaurs.
Theyre was a storm called Ultra Magnus and another called Orion Pax... Or was that Comets? Still, Exciting!
