I have been studying for the GRE for 8 week now, nearly every day, and I can not even get a passing grade on the practice tests and I am taking the test on Thursday. My highest score for the Verbal section is a 147 and for math, I have gotten a 145 every time I take it ever though I do better with each one. How the hell is anyone supposed to get a 160+ on this thing? Worst part is, I am taking the actual test on Thursday. I am so ****ed!!

Anyway, what about you? Have you ever studied and studied and studied for a test and it not help one bit?

    HA!
    you have no idea....

...sometimes, the test will end up having NOTHING to do with what you thought you studied for, or the following:
    1. 1 you study to hard for areas that end up NOT covered on the test, or
    2. 2 you study, and the questions end up being nothing you expected.
It stinks. It really does, but maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

The problem is, I can not get into any PhD program without passing this test.

Stay away from forums until you've passed.

I've already done that. I've taken books out of the library. I've watched youtube videos. Created an account on Grockit. Have done all of this and still can not pass. If I can't even pass the pactice tests at this point, I'm not just going to get better in a day.

This is my break time. I have been doing GRE stuff non stop for the last 6 hours.

Just buckle down and get it done. I had to pass the Bar Exam in two different states and I studied for each for months. Just put in the quality time for it and try not to stress too much. Just get to the point that you feel confident and ignore any outside interference.

I wish I had a test to study for. All I ever get are essays and group projects. :mad

Big if, but if I don't flunk anything this year, I'll be trying to set up my internship in the fall. I'm done after that. I just don't have it at this point. My brain is like Swiss cheese. It's disappointing that my cognitive capability seems to be dropping. At least I can make gains in the gym, heh.

My advise is to not cram the night before the test but to get a full night's sleep as being over tired can affect your performance.

Be relaxed about it. That's all I can say, worked for me in my GCSEs. The only only backfire is you feel like nothing's fucking going In!

Be relaxed and don't over study. Sometimes to much is as bad as not studying at all. You start 2nd guessing your self because you know too much.

My recommendation is to pay to get coached on how to take the test. Plenty of companies exist just for this. Sure it'll cost you $2,000+ for the tutors, however, most of these place guarantee you pass the test. If not they will continue to tutor you for free.

Think of the money you spend as an investment in your future.

There is such a thing as studying to much. It's possible you're burning out because you're trying to cram too much into your head at once. I know it sounds counterproductive, but take a step back and just do something else for a little bit. That way, you'll be able to come back to studying feeling a little refreshed.

I don't test well, which is why I make sure I ace all my homework assignments.
