Anyways, this was supposed to be a scene from the first fanfic in my Earthspark series involving Hot Rod aka Rodimus, Arcee, Bumblebee, and Sideswipe when they decide to have one last race before Hot Rod leaves the Autobots after a falling out with Optimus Prime.

I'm also a fan of Osro1113's flash work, which the following was originally planned to be like; videos of the entire transformation. The transformation didn't really turn out as planned so I just decided to settle for the vectors... if you can call them that.

First off is Shockwave, possibly my favourite Con of all time. As you can see, his cannon is a bit inaccurate, as Google wasn't kind to me.



Here's Ultra Magnus. Unfortunately I couldn't find any shots of the shins down of his in-show model, so I had to resort to images of the toy, Next time I'll be sure to use Depthwave's screencaps for reference.but I'm still pleased with how he turned out.



Smokescreen is in at third, with a little something off with his proportions. Be sure to tell me what it is if you can work it out. His new colour scheme will come along at a later date.






Basically how this works is I create each segment of the character using reference images, and then making parent sections (e.g an entire arm,) then child sections (upper arm, forearm, hand) and then the child sections are literally separated into a few polygons each. This means that the character is essentially fully poseable. Cool, eh?

Now, some people have already come up with some interesting ideas, like Terrorsaur from Starscream and Rodimus from Wheeljack. So I'm going to focus on some of the other molds.

Now this one I think is quite clever. Robots in Disguise Sky-Byte.




Any suggestions and ideas on how to mess with these molds are of course very welcome.

For a while now, I've been doing my takes of the well-renowned Trendmasters Godzilla toys, and I plan to have some trading cards ready for this year's G-Fest. They've been a big part of my childhood, and they really hold some sentimental value. Hell, watch me at G-Fest - you can see the kid in me jump out (so much so, I practically have to grab him by the arm and tell him to cool it) when I see them in the dealer's room, especially when they're still in the original packaging. But looking around, there isn't much fan art of them, so I figured I'd have a go at it. I did make a few tweaks here and there, mostly because I'm ME, but for the most part, they're intended to be the classic mid-90's [re]designs.

Some of you might be wondering why there are two color schemes. Well, the above version is essentially based on the standard release. The bottom version is a testament to their marketability: under the Godzilla Wars toyline, there was a *special edition 40th Anniversary set that contained nine monsters; the set was re-released with the monsters sporting new (and somewhat wacky) color schemes, commonly referred to as the "repaint set". But others, like Megalon and Varan, weren't part of that set, but were recolored for the never-officially-released "Godzilla: Doom Island" line that was pushed aside (I'd assume) for the '98 movie toys.

*There were three versions of the 40th Anniversary set altogether. The first was towards the tail-end of the "Godzilla: King Of The Monsters" brand, containing Godzilla, Mecha-Godzilla, Battra, Mecha-King Ghidorah, Biollante, Gigan, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. Under the "Godzilla Wars" brand, the latter three monsters were replaced by Space Godzilla, MOGUERA, and Anguirus. The third was the same characters, but with the different colors. I've got the first two, and I've been after the Repaint set for a few years now.

I got... I am procrastinating my final exams, and so I started fiddling with TF Prime Soundwave. I got annoyed with his neck frills. I realize the frills are show-accurate, but it looks so much sleeker in the CGI than in the toy. I tried to imagine what it without the frills, then I had an epiphany.

What if Soundwave's "face" has been staring us in plain sight? I'm not necessarily endorsing the idea that Soundwave is hiding some kind of mysterious face behind that visor, and I'm convinced that what we see in the show IS his face. I think of my digibash like a "what-if?" situation, where if I was a character designer eagerly setting up some kind of plot twist involving Soundwave's face, I'd do it by having Soundwave transform his face kibble in a configuration that creates the illusion of facelessness.

Think of the pieces moving like Iron Man's helmet, which sort of shifts around to reveal or conceal Tony Stark's face. Or Bayverse Bumblebee's battle mask. Or Animated Shockwave. The neck frills become his mouthplate, and I moved his head vents to where they are in G1 Soundwave. I honestly think this is a plausible transformation.

Disclaimer: I didn't take this photo. I did a Google search for Soundwave pictures and saved the clearest one. All I did was move around his face kibble with Photoshop. I did cheat a bit by manipulating the proportions of the face kibble, but not by much. I'm not a Photoshop expert or even an artist, so I know my Photoshop skills aren't too slick.

Still, I think this look is pretty cool! Reminds me of Teknoman, Tarn, and Blackout.
