Former University of Alabama football player Siran Stacy filed suit against the Dothan/Houston County E911 Board on Thursday in relation to a 2007 car wreck that left his wife and four of his children dead.

The lawsuit, filed in Houston County Circuit Court, accuses the E911 board and the estate of Adam Wayman, the driver who crashed his truck into Stacy’s van on Nov. 17, 2007, of wrongful death and negligence.
According to the lawsuit, motorists traveling along Highway 84 that night made multiple 911 calls to report Wayman’s erratic driving, but their calls were transferred to Dale County E911, “preventing any proper and adequate dispatch time in which authorities could have intercepted Wayman’s vehicle.”

The suit says Wayman began driving his truck westbound in the highway’s eastbound lane at least 7 miles away from Stacy’s van, which was traveling on Highway 123.
The E911 board is accused of neglecting its duty to “exercise reasonable care in the receiving, routing, transferring and/or responding to emergency calls,” while the suit says Wayman had a duty to “operate his motor vehicle in a safe manner.”

Stacy’s lawsuit calls for a jury trial to determine the damages. It is filed on behalf of him and his family.
The Alabama Wrongful Death Statute only allows the recovery of punitive damages in wrongful death lawsuits, meaning no payment for medical bills or other reimbursements can be gathered.
However, the negligence count allows Stacy to seek compensatory damages as well.

After the crash, Stacy’s wife, Ellen, and children, Lequisa, Bronson, Sydney and Ellie, were pronounced dead on the scene. Wayman died at Flowers Hospital the next morning.

Ok, so here is a little back story: my mother in law has come to visit at least once every year...

Ok, so here is a little back story: my mother in law has come to visit at least once every year since the wife and I have been married. That would be close to 4 years now. She has known every time about our little "house rules". Some of those are: not running the dish washer and washing machine every other day(we run them about once a week)
not feeding our cats any human food or filling their dish more than once in one day
Not giving our dogs people food and to not let them out when we are not home becuase she cannot control them.

Every single time, she has questioned as to what is the purpose of having those appliances if we are not going to use them, that the kitties are hungry and she cannot go with out seeing them starve, and that the dogs beg her to be let out becuase they need to go. Due to that, our water bills have been higher when she stays, our cats have gained weight and run out of food faster, and our dogs have gotten fatter and jumped all over couch, getting it dirty. this has happened when she stays for a week at a time.

Now for the current situation: recently, we had a child. the mother in law had stated that she would stay with us for 5 weeks to "help out" my wife while she stayed home as I was not able to take but 2 days off. Well, she arrived a week before we went into labor. During that week, she went about her usual business that was mentioned above, but also, knowing that my wife was due to give birth any given time, was asking her to take her to all these stores for shopping. She also felt that the groceries we had bought for her stay was not enough and went on to ask to be taken to the grocery store, literally, every day that first week.

On the night of labor: my wife went into labor at midnite, saturday morning. In the delivery room, there was her bed and a couch that folded out. the mother inlaw slept in it from 2am-11am the whole time and did not offer to switch with me; I slept on the floor with some pillows. as I woke up, after getting 3 hours of sleep, I ask my wife if she needs anything from home as Im going back to check on the animals. Mother in law asks that I bring her back Mcdonalds. Lets just say that I was close to missing my child's birth becuase I was stuck in the drive through for her. After delivery, we go to our room, and she states that if we want, she can take my wife's car home and leave me to stay with my family. She states she will be back in the morning. she didnt return until 3pm. On the second day of being back home, she asks my wife to take her to World Market for more shopping. This is the end of the second week she has been here.

At the end of week 3, we had 2 wedding to go to and asked if she could watch our son. On the first, we fed him so she didnt have to worry about that and told her that the dogs should be fine and for her not to worry about them. We were gone and hour and she called stating that we needed to get back as she could not get the dogs back in and she was holding the baby. We asked why she had let them out and she stated that they were "throwing themselves" against their kennels wanting to go out. On the second wedding, we asked her to feed him; when we call her on our way back, she states that it took her 45 minutes to figure how to feed him. As we get home, she states that he had not slep the whole time that we were gone. We pick him and find out that he had been soaked for some time now!

Lastly, she has been with us for 4 weeks now, and in that time she has only fed/changed him about 3 times. She has only stayed up with him one night as he was crying. Of note, she stays up every night til 1am reading and last night while I was up feeding him on a work night, I caught her playing solitaire on our computer. Now I know that as a parent, its within reason to be attentding to him in the middle of the night regardless of whether I have to go to work the next morning. But, if she states that she coming down here to "help" wouldnt this be the best time?

Ok, Im done.....

Members of a gang arrested in Peru have confessed to killing people and extracting their body fat to sell to international cosmetic companies, police claim.
Three men were tracked down in the jungle of remote Huanuco province, where officials also found human remains and two bottles of fat.
Colonel Jorge Mejia, chief of Peru's anti-kidnapping police, told reporters the trio admitted to the murder of five people - and to draining the corpses.
The men revealed one litre of human fat could fetch $15,000 (more than £9,000), he added.
Describing the grisly method of fat extraction, Col Mejia said the gang would cut off victims' heads and limbs, take out the organs and then hang the torsos above candles to heat the flesh - letting the fat drip into tubs below.
It was then sold on to intermediaries in Peru's capital Lima, before heading to cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies in Europe.
However, Col Mejia conceded police could not confirm any fat had been sold.
Medical experts have cast doubt on the trade of human fat but said it was used in anti-wrinkle treatments.
The fat is normally always taken from a living patient, usually from the stomach or buttocks.
"I can't see why there would be a black market for fat," said Dr Adam Katz, a professor of plastic surgery at the University of Virginia medical school.
"It doesn't make any sense at all, because in most countries we can get fat so readily and in such amounts from people who are willing and ready to donate that I don't see why there would ever be a black market for fat."
Peruvian authorities said at least six men remained at large - including alleged gang leader, Hilario Cudena.
One of the men in custody reportedly told police Cudena has been killing people for their fat for more than 30 years.

What would happen if humans could deliberately create a black hole? Well, for starters we might just unlock the ultimate energy source to create the ultimate spacecraft engine — a potential "black hole-drive" – to propel ships to the stars.

It turns out black holes are not black at all; they give off "Hawking radiation" that causes them to lose energy (and therefore mass) over time. For large black holes, the amount of radiation produced is miniscule, but very small black holes rapidly turn their mass into a huge amount of energy.

This fact prompted Lois Crane and Shawn Westmoreland of Kansas State University to calculate what it would take to create a small black hole and harness the energy to propel a starship. They found that there is a "sweet spot" for black holes that are small enough to be artificially created and to produce enormous amounts of energy, but are large enough that they don't immediately evaporate in a burst of particles. Their ideal black hole would have a mass of about a million metric tons and would be about one one-thousandth the size of a proton.

To create such a black hole, Crane and Westmoreland envision a massive spherical gamma-ray laser in space, powered by thousands of square kilometers of solar panels. After charging for a few years, this laser would release the pent-up energy equivalent to a million metric tons of mass in a converging spherical shell of photons. As the shell collapses in on itself, the energy becomes so dense that its own gravity focuses it down to a single point and a black hole is born.

The black hole would immediately begin to disgorge all the energy that was compressed to form it. To harness that energy and propel a starship, the black hole would be placed at the center of a parabolic electron-gas mirror that would reflect all the energy radiated from the black hole out the back of the ship, propelling the ship forward. Particle beams attached to the ship behind the black hole would be used to simultaneously feed the black hole and propel it along with the ship.

Such a black hole drive could easily accelerate to near the speed of light, opening up the cosmos to human travelers, but that's just the beginning. The micro-black hole could also be used as a power generator capable of transforming any matter directly into energy. This energy could be used to create new black holes and new power generators. Obviously, creating and harnessing black holes is not an easy undertaking, but Crane and Westmoreland point out that the black hole drive has a significant advantage over more speculative technologies like warp drives and wormholes: it is physically possible. And, they believe, worth pursuing "because it allows a completely different and vastly wider destiny for the human race. We should not underestimate the ingenuity of the engineers of the future."

Looks like there's hope yet for humans traveling beyond our own solar system. Sure seems like the ultimate energy source. Better start investing in black holes and get out of oil and gas. :p

Hey folks, just wanted to get this grief off my chest, since I feel I am about to go insane by keeping it in.

About a month ago, Pickles, my pet tabby cat, who I had pretty much grown up with (parents got him a few days after I was born) was diagnosed with diabetus. We were told that he would be fine by giving him the correct treatment, medication and such. He's been pretty much fine the whole summer, that is until about a week ago. I came home to him in pretty bad shape.

Took him to the vet yesterday. Said the diabetus had led to kidney failure. We would have either had to pretty much been with him the whole day and monitor him constantly, give him to a "pet hospital", or put him down. At first we chose giving him to the hospital, but I discovered today that it had become so bad, he had to be put down. It happened so abruptly, I didn't even get to say goodbye, since the decision was made at the vet and I wasn't present there since didn't think it would be this bad. But it may have been for the best, since the vet implied kidney failure can lead to severe discomfort in cats.

Needless to say, I feel like I've been hit by a train. However, even typing this out has made me feel a bit better.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm still in shock, and I really had to get it off my chest.

Goodbye, Pickles. We'll never forget you.
The Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2, along with the "contact lens" that corrected the defect in the Hubble Space Telescope's primary mirror will have a new home. Recently returned to Earth after more than 15 years in space, the two instruments will have a new home in the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in Washington. Astronauts on the Hubble servicing mission in May 2009 replaced WFPC-2 with a new and improved version, bringing the well-used camera back to Earth. "This was the camera that saved Hubble," said Ed Weiler, from NASA's Science Mission Directorate. "I have looked forward for a long time to stand in front of this very instrument while on display to the public."

WFPC-2, and the Corrective Optics Space Telescope Axial Replacement, or COSTAR, gave Hubble the ability to take the images that have changed the way we see the Universe by providing the iconic images that now adorn posters, album covers, the Internet, classrooms and science text books worldwide.

The Hubble instruments will be on display in the National Air and Space Museum's Space Hall through mid-December. They then will travel to Southern California to go on temporary display at several venues. In March 2010, the instruments will return to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, where they will take up permanent residency.

After Hubble's launch and deployment aboard the shuttle in 1990, scientists realized the telescope's primary mirror had a flaw, known as a spherical aberration. The outer edge of the mirror was ground
too flat by a depth of 2.2 microns, roughly equal to one-fiftieth the thickness of a human hair. This tiny flaw resulted in fuzzy images because some of the light from the objects being studied was scattered.

Hubble's first servicing mission provided the telescope with hardware that basically acted as eye glasses. Launched in December 1993 aboard space shuttle Endeavour, the mission added the WFPC-2, about the size of a baby grand piano, and COSTAR, about the size of a telephone booth. The WFPC-2 had the optical fix built in, while the COSTAR provided the optical correction for other Hubble instruments.

The WFPC-2 made more than 135,000 observations of celestial objects from 1993 to 2009. The camera was the longest serving and most prolific instrument aboard Hubble.

"For years the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 has been taking pictures of the universe," said John Trauger of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif. "Today, we are taking pictures of the
WFPC-2 and I guess if there was ever a camera that deserves to have its picture taken, this is it."

In my opinion, this camera is as an important piece of human history as the pyramids.

Talking Video Reviewers of course! Everybody and their mentally challenged cousin likes to grab a camcorder and make a movie of themselves playing with toys, so what do you think of them?

Pro's: I like seeing how a transformer actually transforms and articulates before I buy it, that much is good.

Cons: Too many reviewers like to take time to talk about character backstory or describe what colors the figure is. I can see the colors myself, that's the point of watching a video. And I know more about the history of the character then most of the reviewers themselves. Then you get the guys that aren't even sure how to transform it or can't remember what certain features were designed for. If they don't know what they're doing, they shouldn't be making videos of it.

Hey guys, i don't know were else to turn to ask for advice. i would ask my family but the relationship im in has made me the Black sheep of the family(kinda romeo and juliet like). heres the scoop:

My girlfriend found out she has ADD and now has to take a pill for it(not sure if its ridilen or not, couldnt understand cause when she told me she was crying on the phone when she said it ). the pill has a side effect of making you depressed, wich she is being affected by. Because of this she is VERY depressed and thinks she is stupid . i dont know what to do except to tell she's not(cause she isnt) and be there as much as i can, but its still not helping. I've never had to deal with this before so im stuck.I love her and want to help her, but i cant really figure out what to do rite now so i figured id ask for advice on what i should do to help ( her guardian is making her take the pill so she can focus better, shes not 18 yet so she cant do anything)

thanks in advance, TFW2005 4 lyfe

This story is truly amazing!

Seemingly unaware of the beast towering over it, the tiny rodent grabbed at
scraps of meat thrown into the African Leopard's enclosure. But instead of
pouncing on the tiny intruder, the 12-year-old leopard Sheena kept her
distance. After a few minutes she tried to nudge the mouse away with her
nose, but the determined little guy kept hewing away until he was full.

The extraordinary scene was captured by photography student Casey Gutteridge
at the Santago Rare Leopard Project in Hertfordshire , England . The 19-year-old, photographing the leopard for a course project, was astounded by the mouse's behavior.

He said had no idea where the mouse came from. He just appeared after the
keeper had dropped in the meat for the leopard. Taking no notice of the leopard,
the mouse went straight over to the meat and started eating.

Even when the leopard bent down and sniffed him, the mouse just carried on
eating like nothing had happened. Even the keeper said he'd never seen
anything like it before.

Project owner Jackie James added: It was so funny to see - Sheena batted the mouse a couple of times to try to get it away from her food. But the determined little thing took no notice and just carried on.

The mouse continued to eat the leopard's lunch and showed the leopard who was boss. We can only assume that Casey received a grade of A on his project!

Figured I'd post a thread dedicated to the cool pictures we've taken of things other than ourselves.

I'll start...

I took this while hiking through the woods in PA in April/May 2007. A bunch of Amish teens were riding around on horseback. They reached a stream, but this particular horse didn't want to cross so the guy guided him. The Amish typically don't like having their pictures taken, but I never really asked for permission. I just snuck in a quick snapshot without him noticing.

This was at a Metrorail in DC back in December 2006.
