Actually, not a bad start.

As an introductory issue, it accomplishes in 22 pages what AHM couldn't accomplish in six issues. It sets the tone and premise for the new direction the story will take, not beating around the bush.

Where do we stand? The war is over. The Decepticons (save a few scattered 'third-stringers) have left. The humans have figured out a way to take down the Transformers, forcing them into hiding. And of course, Ironhide is dead, after which Optimus Prime rescinds his leadership role (thankfully, not by committing suicide for sacrificing virtual reality lives in a video game).

Not much in the way of characterization, but then, most first issues just lay down the foundation, which I think this one does a nice job of.

What's promising? Costa isn't going to shy away from using lesser known bots, which is nice. We see Breakdown and Streetwise. Even Windcharger gets a mention. And of course, Don's work is again a thing of beauty. I didn't find the mouths of the bots to be as distracting as others. I think Don's ability to draw action and fights scenes more than makes up for any of the facial shortcomings that might be present.

What's concerning? Well, Prime comes off as a bit of a wuss, doesn't he? Just kind of throws his hands in the air and gives up. I mean, I understand where the frustration comes from in losing his close friend. But maybe doing this later in the series would have more of an impact. Again, I think it's more a tactic to set this new direction up. I personally am glad Prime is out of the way (again), as it always gives other bots a time to shine.

All in all, I'd say a good start. Nothing earth-shattering, but at least this time, unlike with AHM, things happen.

The question will be "Will we care?"

Anyone else? The first issue really is just setting the stage, as it were, so I'll give it another issue to see if I really like it, but this particular version of deconstruction is interesting, at least, the notion that "superhuman does not mean human".

With the Transformers ongoing about to begin, I thought it'd be a good idea to reread and review...

With the Transformers ongoing about to begin, I thought it'd be a good idea to reread and review some of IDW's earlier efforts. My hope is that where Continuum fell short (and I can't really speak to this because I didn't pick it up), this thread will give newcomers a starting place, and will be a refresher for veterans. I invite everyone to add their opinions as well. For the most part I'll be reviewing TPBs, but in some cases they will be individual issues. So without futher delay, I present my thoughts on Megatron Origin.

Megatron Origin, written by Eric Holmes, art by Alex Milne and Marcelo Matere, colors by Josh Perez

The story begins with Autobot Senator Decimus traveling to a mining outpost to lay off workers. Among the distressed energon miners is Megatron. None of them take the news well, as "automation" leaves them without a job. One worker in particular speaks up, claiming that the senate would take and take until they're made to stop. He is silenced by a guard, and upon seeing his fallen brother Megatron leaps to action, attacking the senator. Hell breaks loose as Megatron kills one of the guards (he seems horrified at his actions), and the rebellion is eventually quelled. The miners are rounded up and placed on a ship to be taken to a prison. Megs befriends two miners (Rumble and Frenzy) who urge him to take action. The take the ship and escape to Kaon, "The worst place on Cybertron."

A few thoughts-- in this world pre great war, it seems Autobots rule Cybertron. In other continuities, Autobots and Decepticons coexisted, like 2 sides of a coin, one opposed to the other. The lack of a clear "bad guy" allows for some shades of gray among the Autobots. The guards used excessive force in suppressing the miners, and it was clear they didn't care for the workers. I think the story loses sight of the sense of class struggle as it progresses, but the reader gets a strong sense of it in the opening issue of Origin.

Chapter 2 opens with Megs fighting in a gladiatorial battle. Upon defeating his opponent (a Go-bot), he is forced to kill again, and seems remorseful. Constantly winning, he moves up through the ranks, gaining the admiration of the crowd and other bots. Elsewhere, tales of his victories catch the attention of corrupt senator Ratbat, as well as the authorities led by Prowl and Sentinel Prime. Prime vows to bring Megs down and sends Bumber and Fastback to investigate. They spy the site where Megs and crew are building the next gladiator arena. Soundwave shows up (out of the blue) to offer Megs new weapons to use in his battles. At this point, Bumper and Fastback are discovered, captured, and eliminated.

Thoughts: so Megs becomes a fighter and a leader in the ring. There are notable appearances by a number of Autobots (Prowl, Prime, Hound, Whirl, one of the Aerialbots), the Constructicons, and Soundwave + minions. Also, by the end of this chapter, Megs can kill without remorse.

Chapter 3 moves fast, and begins with Soundwave bringing Megatron 3 flight combatants-- none other than Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker! They pledge allegiance to him, and he tells them he's got something in store for them. Flash to the Autobots-- a funeral is held for Fastback and Bumper. In attendance are Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Ironhide (resembling his toy figure), Wheeljack, Prowl, Alpha Trion, Elita One, and Optimus/Orion (resembling the Optimus later found in Spotlight Blurr). Flash to a Decimus tribute unveiling-- Starscream and the Seekers attack, wreaking havoc and kidnapping the senator. Flash to a secret location where Megs is recruiting bots to join him. In the crowd are a number of soon-to-be Decepticons, along with Autobots Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, and Grimlock. Flash to Megs stating Rumble and Frenzy have been modified for a reason... "so Soundwave it is!" one of them states. Megatron addresses the crowd, saying they must band together to fight. They must wear a badge that never comes off, that the new arena would be the entire face of the planet, and that the new badge they wear would unite them against the Autobot bureaucracy. Boom!! Prowl and crew break in and arrest them all. Back at Autobot HQ in Kaon, Soundwave is released b/c of a senate directive. In a cell, Starscream urges Megatron to say something to the imprisoned Decepticons, but he can think of nothing. Starscream then tells the guard he's got something very important to tell the senate, something that "guarantees their future and mine." He is removed from the cell, and the implication is that he is betraying Megatron.

Thoughts: This was the fastest paced chapter thus far. The most interesting thing to me was that a few Autobots were considering joining Megatron's cause. It wouldn't be the last time Sunstreaker sided with the Decepticons ;-)

Chapter 4 starts with Starscream facing the senate. "Through your own interests you created this. You brought us here. You didn't just make it possible-- you made it happen. All we did was give it a badge." With that he blasts at the senate (you'd think they would've disarmed him first) and releases everyone in the cells. Megs and crew arm themselves-- with Starscream giving Megatron his fusion cannon (if only he knew he'd be blasted with it more times than any Autobot)-- and they head out to attack the city. A battle ensures with Sentinel Prime rolling out to get his Apex armor. Flash to a meeting between Soundwave and Ratbat. Ratbat reveals that he set in motion the mining automation to capitalize on the chaos and instability to advance his own self interest. "Instability is just a different word for opportunity," he tells Soundwave. Soundwave then blasts him, placing his spark into a cassette. Flash back to the front line, and Prime is suited up and doing some heavy damage. An epic battle ensues between Prime and Megs, but eventually Megatron gains the upper hand and kills Sentinel (or at least badly damaging him-- it's not 100% clear, but he looks pretty banged up). Prowl orders a retreat from Kaon. Flash to Megatron and Soundwave looking over Kaon at sunrise. Soundwave says they've got an army willing to fight and a city under his command, what's next? Megatron, sitting on a throne, responds "I've got a few ideas."

Thoughts on book as a whole...

I thoroughly enjoyed this miniseries. Unlike the -ation series or AHM, it is self-contained, and is a glimpse at Megatron and Cybertron before the Great War. Eric Holmes tells a believable story of Megatron, while creating some serious cannon for future writers to refer to. As I mentioned above, in past continuities Autobots and Decepticons emerged simultaneously. In Holmes's story, the 'cons emerge to initiate social change in an Autobot regime. It's certainly an interesting twist to have the status quo be Autobot control of the planet.

I wish Holmes touched upon the class issues a bit more-- he jumped from Megatron the miner to Megatron the gladiator a bit quickly for my tastes, and the story might've been stronger if he had picked one. I understand the G1 reference of making the 'cons military gladiators, but is that enough to cause a rebellion? If they don't like fighting, just walk away. To me, the mining cause-- the fight against the denial of sufficient jobs/care to workers-- would've been a stronger story. Were all the gladiators previously miners? What beef did the gladiators have against the regime? It's a little unclear, but certainly not so major to detract from the general story.

I really liked the character arc of Megatron in this book. He's horrified at his first murder, and not terribly happy killing the GoBot. However the constant killing hardened him and made him a warrior, a murderer. It'd be interesting to read a Megatron Origins 2 which chronicled his transformation into a military strategist.

I loved the brief cameos by some of the well-known bots, as well as obscure ones like Whirl. Holmes is able to set up what Cybertron was like before war, and had free reign to pick and choose any G1 character to include in the book-- nice to see the ordinary and obscure.

Gotta say, I wasn't really feeling Sentinel Prime. It's probably what Holmes was going for, and I can't say I disagree with the decision, but Sentinel was pretty stiff and bland. I guess Prowl had to get it from somewhere...

Glad to see Holmes play with our expectations regarding Starscream confronting the senate. As he leaves the cell you expect him to betray Megs a la any other incarnation of Starscream, but he doesn't. Maybe it was all part of the plan, maybe not, but it was good to see things pan out differently.

All in all I have very few complaints about this book. With a setting before the Great War, Holmes is given free reign to tell the story he wants with few restrictions. While the book to me is more plot driven than character driven, Megatron the character is superbly done. The art, while confusing at times, rightfully captures the grittiness of it all. It's dark, it's brooding, it's Megatron. Probably the darkest part of the whole book--one that sent shivers down my spine-- was the audience chanting "Til All Are One" and urging Megatron to kill the GoBot in the arena. This is easily one of the darkest books IDW Transformers has to offer, and certainly one worth picking up.

After numerous (unexplainable) delays from Amazon, today I finally received my trade paperback copy...

After numerous (unexplainable) delays from Amazon, today I finally received my trade paperback copy of AHM Vol. 3.

I read the first two Spotlights (Blurr & Jazz) on my lunch break, and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The Blurr story is exactly the type of thing I longed for as a 7-year-old G1 cartoon fan, e.g. background regarding how Cyberton descended from a once great civilization into a war-torn & then abandoned planet. I was also never much of a Blurr fan, but this story (and especially the Piston character & the pre-matrix Optimus cameo!) made this a very enjoyable read. The illustrations are also pretty great.

Next came a surprising story about another G1 character I really couldn't care less about, Tracks. Tracks is featured prominently in the Jazz Spotlight and here again the authors take a character with very little positive development from the G1 cartoon continuity (Tracks, not Jazz) and they give him a back story that makes him a much more respectable & memorable 'bot.

I have read all the previous negative reviews for AHM and I admittedly am not much of a comic book collector, but I have enjoyed almost all of the IDW trade paperbacks from the new continuities (Spotlight Vol. 1-5, AHM Vol. 1-3, Revelation, etc.). As a G1 fanboy, the art & the stories are all helping me to fill in the gaps for characters that I otherwise would have said were getting in the way of the original G1 plot line. If it is even possible, I think I am an even bigger fan after having read this series.

Just wanted to throw these comments from a 25-year TF fan out there to see if anyone else felt the same.

Thanks.

The only thing I haven't read is the one-shot Continuum that came out a couple days ago.

I hate...

The only thing I haven't read is the one-shot Continuum that came out a couple days ago.

I hate to say it, but I think Dreamwave did a better job in the time that it had the license. Prime Directive was the single greatest TF story I've ever read, nudging out the Unicron battle from the Marvel continuity for the title. Speaking of which, probably the biggest disappointment of the whole thing is that Dreamwave went bankrupt before Unicron could show up, because the foreshadowing was positively epic. It really made it seem like this anonymous threat was death incarnate, and that it was slowly but surely closing in on the TFs.

As for IDW, I think we'll look back on All Hail Megatron as the TF equivalent of the Clone Saga. Granted, it wasn't nearly as convoluted, but it's the first TF miniseries that NEVER FUCKING ENDS. The idea was good, but it was enough to fill six issues, tops. AHM went on for 16 issues, and if you include the Spotlight tie-ins, that number jumps to 21. I just... ugh! I'm so glad I finished it.

Right now, I'm moving on to the Dreamwave Armada/Energon comic. After that, I'll see if I can hunt down the Panini Armada comic (no luck so far).

...which just means that we have a full 32 pages of bullcrap instead of just 6.

Yikes, it was bad. Mindblowingly bad. I don't think there was a single page in the book that did not have at least one error on it, whether large or small. Simply pathetic. So many things were left out and so many things simply change... for whatever reason.

For instance:

Jimmy Pink? Yeah, never mentioned. Apparently retconned out as all instances where he was there were Verity and Hunter omit him and only mention "the two humans".

The Machination? Yeah, figment of our imagination. Scorponok was working with Skywatch the whole time, and they are the ones that kidnapped Hunter and Sunstreaker and created the Headmasters.

Just... a total mess.

A while back, DC put up the below 2 posters in relation to Countdown. I Wiki'd them and got the info on the hero one. Can anyone to that one and explain the villian one?

Heros:

Didio described the picture's symbolism: Anyone standing on barren ground is doomed. In this case, it spells the Death of the New Gods...The yellow ring corrupts Kyle (Rayner) in The Sinestro Corps War...Jason Todd becomes Red Robin, driving a wedge in the Challengers from Beyond...Green Arrow struggles to win the love of Black Canary...Batman, in symbolic garb, wields the sword that hearkens the return of a deadly foe (Ra's al Ghul)...Dressed in Barry's costume, Bart (Allen, the Flash) showed that he had one foot in the grave...A Legionnaire is lost and marked for death in Countdown...The Atom, lost, struggles to survive...The shield marked Hippolyta's return...Superman and Wonder Woman discuss parent issues...Is that a Boom Tube I see, and can that be the path to salvation?...The shadow of evil falls over Mary Marvel...and the statue head, reminiscent of and tied to Kamandi #1, also reflects Sinestro's upcoming visit to the Big Apple.

AHM continuity flubs

Continuity glitches in AHM, courtesy of the TFwiki...

Continuity glitches in AHM, courtesy of the TFwiki. There was some discussion of this topic in the Continuum preview thread, but since it was off-topic, and I was interested in discussing it, I started this thread.

So... discuss if you're so inclined. :)

Quote:

The Decepticons have seemingly abandoned their usual carefully planned infiltration protocol where they attempted to manipulate humanity into wiping themselves out. This is in accordance with Escalation and Devastation where it is repeatedly said to have been thrown out of the window. Unlike before however, the Decepticons don't seem bothered that Megatron's thrown out their strategy this time.

Because the war had been won at this point. The situation changed, so the strategy changed with it.

Quote:

Previous robot encounters such as the publicly broadcast Transformers battle and Grimlock stomping through the countryside are briefly hand-waved away as the work of the now-defunct Machination. Yet Air Force representatives also state that they thought the giant robots were a hoax, which makes little sense considering that a news station filmed them and the Air Force has seen them fighting the Reapers. Worse, the people of New York react to the Constructicons by thinking they're part of a movie being filmed, rather than going "Oh no, the Machination is back!"...

First off, just because a segment of the military is aware of the existence of the Transformers doesn't mean they know anything in great detail about them. Some aerial news footage and a view from an aerial jet flyby aren't a lot of information. No one saw anything up close and personal in Devastation, so while the knowledge is out there, there's not much to go on. It's conceivable that an aggressive attempt to contain the information like the one that the FBI agent mentions could be successful in the very structured and compartmentalized world of the military.

To narrow in on the street scene and the 'movie' comment, the initial exchange only lasts a minute before the Cons start shooting. The humans are surprised, and these aren't the robots from the news footage, even assuming the individuals on the street saw that footage, which they may or may not have.
Apparently what he meant was one year, since the Autobots (and a swarm of Insectithings) have been hanging out on Cybertron without special shielding, and haven't died yet. Much later in issue 7, the explanation given was that the storms coincidentally died down just as the Autobots arrived on Cybertron, and that living on the planet now merely causes them pain, but evidently not enough pain for them to complain about or even mention in the six previous issues, or anytime afterward. Okay then.
Ok yeah, it's a genuine discrepancy between Furman's work and AHM. There's a little dialogue to try and smooth it over, but it could have been handled better. To be fair, there is a mention in issue 4, the first issue to focus at length on the Autobots, that signals won't carry in the atmosphere. And Jazz doesn't say that the storms have stopped, just that they aren't as bad.

The Swarm are wild mutant things anyway. If the environment doesn't kill the Autobots, it's not likely to kill them. Not that they'd complain.

The real world explanation is of course a return to characters who act much as they did in the old cartoon. It's an appeal to nostalgia. Storywise, it doesn't fit with what we read before. There could be a reason for it, some injury or something, but if so it ought to have been addressed. Had I written the story, I'd have kept Soundwave's speech patterns normal. The same for Omega Supreme.

At the end of Devastation, Megatron had on Earth with him Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Astrotrain and Blitzwing. Soundwave was on Earth, and so were Ratbat and Ravage. Most of the major s1 and s2 characters from the cartoon were already in place when Furman was writing. Admittedly, AHM sets the command structure up as it was in the cartoon, but many of the characters were already in place.
In a slightly jarring move, issue 7 of All Hail began chucking in and mentioning parts of previous IDW continuity that the comic had not acknowledged for a full half of its run. This included the Sunstreaker plot from Maximum Dinobots (thus blowing part of the ending for that miniseries), which was brought up in issue 7 as a lead-in for him being revealed as the mysterious traitor in issue 8... after having no focus in the previous six issues of All Hail.

I'm not quite sure where this one is going. The fact that prior continuity is overtly scarce in the first half of the story is meaningless. AHM is a 12 issue series, and continuity plays an important part in it.

So, recently learned that I still have all these issues from the 90's and have been reading through em. I really loved this series in High School and thought it was so badass and fun.

But now.... eh.... not so much. DEFINITELY not as good as I remember. I'm not sure what the whole appeal of the series was besides, well, the art of the girls in the series.

Is that the only reason it was popular?

I bought both of the All Hail Megatron trade paperbacks this week. I missed the series when it first came out apart from the first issue, and I only recently bought the final at a comic show, so I wanted to catch up with the story.

Not bad... not bad at all. I enjoyed the story quite a bit. I posted a review of volume 1 on my blog, and which I'll post here as well. I still have to read volume 2 and review it, so I'll post that when it's done.

AHM vol. 1 - originally issues 1-6

“All Hail Megatron” begins with a simple premise, as detailed in the forward by author Shane McCarthy. The Decepticons have finally won the war. There’s no one to stop them from running rampant throughout the galaxy and doing whatever they want. It’s like the old cartoon episode “Megatron’s Master Plan” part 2, only without the sanitized nature of the old cartoon that made sure that no one died and nothing was permanently destroyed. AHM contains plenty of destruction and death, though a lot of it still happens off panel or is implied rather than shown, so it’s no R-rated bloodbath.

The story remains in continuity with Simon Furman’s earlier storylines, and yet it consciously goes back to long-standing character groupings and reverts many characters to their original G1 designs. It’s a “back to basics” appeal to nostalgia, apparently in an attempt to halt the downward slope of comic sales throughout the “-ation” series of stories. The Transformers alter appearance and alternate mode often enough that the change is not implausible, but it is certainly jarring to have read three years of comics that were trying to bring Transformers into the present day, only to go all the way back to the 80s with many of the designs. A few characters retain their IDW designs, and a few adopt the Classics/Universe designs, so it’s not all retro. But it’s clear that the overall approach came from a mindset that believed that IDW’s problems stemmed from straying too far from what the nostalgia crowd wanted. I don’t agree with that, but that’s obviously what dictated the approach.

So the story presents the reader with more familiar and traditional character designs and character groupings. Starscream, Soundwave and the rest of the usual cast of characters surround Megatron. Many of the Autobots are who we would expect to find together from the 84-85 cast, such as Ironhide, Prowl and Jazz. The Constructicons and Insecticons are thrown into the mix for the first time as well. That’s fine, and I can accept that the characters have gathered together as they have and altered their forms as well, given that a year has passed since “Devastation”. The Decepticons have set a wide ranging attack in motion both on Earth and elsewhere in the galaxy, and according to Megatron have broken the back of the Autobot “resistance” as he terms it. They openly reveal themselves and attack New York, killing thousands and trashing the city. They cut it off from the outside and establish it as a base of operations from which they attack other areas around the Earth. But in an interesting turn of events, they find victory less than satisfactory. The forces of Earth are not a challenge to the Decepticons, who slaughter them en masse without much of an effort. Cracks begin to show in the unity of the Decepticons, and Starscream openly asks Megatron “What’s next?”

The Autobots are trapped on Cybertron, and Optimus Prime is near-death with Ratchet trying to keep him alive and repair him. Many of the Autobots are in an obviously damaged state, with missing limbs and holes in their armor. Morale is terrible, and there is a traitor in the mix who sold them out to the Decepticons. Jazz and Prowl keep the secret of the loss of the Matrix from the rest of the Autobots. Like the Decepticons, the Autobots are slowly going stir-crazy, though in their case apart from low morale it’s simply because there is nothing to do and nowhere to go. Cybertron is not a hospitable environment, though in keeping with the end of Stormbringer the environment is recovering from the damage that the planet had taken. The Autobots are able to survive unprotected on the surface when a year ago the Technobots had all sorts of problems.

The plot unfolds very deliberately and naturally. We don’t see all the destruction and attempts to fight back in a single issue. Rather, it is ongoing throughout three or four chapters. The characters gradually go downhill rather than take sudden left turns, which feels much more natural. Ironhide takes a swing at Prowl, setting up his eventual beatdown of Mirage as his frustrations grow. Starscream abandons the battle and banters with Megatron about what’s next now that they’ve won. I’ve read numerous complaints about the slow pace of the story from those who read it month to month, but in compiled form everything feels just about right.

Characterization is the key to this story’s success. I doubt we’ve ever seen the Decepticons interacting in quite the same way that they interact here, and the same is true of the Autobots. They react to the situations they’re placed in according to their individual temperaments and beliefs, meaning that the characters drive the plot as much as they’re carried along by it. Some characters are changed beyond recognition, like Perceptor. The story takes a few risks with the characters and they pay off. The characters that get lines and express opinions become more three-dimensional as a result. We get characters just standing around “chewing the fat” as well as discussing the overall situation.

The human side of the story works better than I expected it to. I held off for a long time on buying the trade paperback because it seemed like there was a lot of human-centered story there that I just wasn’t interested in. But those portions of the plot are quite gripping at times as the military are rapidly outmaneuvered and beaten by the Decepticons, and General Witwicky takes hit after hit to his plans and morale. Yes, the Witwickys are introduced as a military family, with Spike apparently a commando or black ops type of soldier. There’s no sign of Hunter, Jimmy or Verity, though I know Hunter turns up later on and plays a key role in the story.

The art is strong, as is to be expected from Guido Guidi, who’s been drawing these characters for some time now. Many of the characters are very reminiscent of the old cartoon, but that’s probably deliberate as well.

The back of the book contains all the covers (as far as I know) from the first six issues, both the 'propoganda posters' and the variants, along with a bonus or two. The intro by the author explains what he was aiming for with the story, which is very much appreciated.

It’s only the first half of the story, but I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit, and that’s the bottom line, isn’t it? It may not mesh perfectly with all of Furman’s stories, but it does work with them and build on them in most areas, while at the same time going off in its own direction and trying to appeal to nostalgia. “All Hail Megatron” is a solid effort at a direction change for IDW and a good story that uses the characters well.

anybody reading this? i just sat down with issues 601-603 and am really just not feeling this...like at all...bums me out, because Hulk was a blast throughout the entire Planet Hulk story, and even WWH was kinda fun, but now it just seems so wonky...i just don't care about Skaar at all, and Banner being a jerk just seems odd...and his super powered shield is kinda lame too...but makes sense so he can't be destroyed...i think i may drop this book...

i was really hoping that wouldn't happen, but Pak just isn't building a story i want to read. not sure if he's just hindered by Loeb's stories or what, but man...it bums me out...gonna read the list now and see if that helps anything...

I've been visiting conventions regularly for many, many years, and every time I go, I usually try and have a sketch or two done by any attending comic book artists. Since I'm pretty sure I'm not the only forum member who does this, I thought it might be fun if we all shared with each other original comic book artwork that is unique and that no one else has ever seen and maybe provide a bit of background information on it. :)

Here's some images to start things off:

Apparition by Lee Moder Jr.
I actually developed a liking for Apparation (the post-Zero Hour Legion of Super-Heroes version of Phantom Girl) and was heartbroken when she was incinerated by a rampaging Daxamite's heat vision, so I asked Lee Moder Jr., the then-artist on the title, to make a commemorative sketch of her for me. He came up with this piece of black humor, which had me wincing and Mark Waid (who was resposible for killing her) laughing his ass off:

Spider-Man by Mike Zeck
Mike Zeck was a nice guy and a real trooper. He made the exact same sketch for everybody even though it took him 20 to 30 minutes to do each one.

Boba Fett by Rick Buckler Jr.

I know at least a few people here read those silly Japanese comics too, what are some of your favorite titles and what would you recommend to others to check out?

Like I said in another thread, currently reading the original Ghost in the Shell manga which is pretty good so far and I picked up 1.5 to read once I'm through as well.

Favorite manga of mine is Gunsmith Cats by Kenichi Sonoda, first one I ever picked up and was my first and biggest entry drug into the wide world of anime and manga back in the mid 90's. Still very much enjoy it today, great action series with phenomenal artwork, I often describe this series as the best action movie you'll ever read.

Others I would check out are:

- MONSTER! (anime is coming out on DVD in December which people have to buy as well)
- Yotsuba!
- Evangelion (for those who like the franchise the manga really fleshes everything out a bit more then the TV series)
- Higurashi When They Cry (see sig below :D) - a straight up adaptation of the anime but I pick this up for the different artwork

(is this in the right thread?... its not necessarily a B/S/T thing...)

Hi,

Short story is that I allowed an ex-gf to con me on buying her comic collection. Let's just say she became an ex after the sale a few years ago.

I have about 1200 comics sitting in a garage. All in boxes, mostly clean, etc...

Does anyone know anyplace or anyone I can sell them all off for at least $1000? It's less than $1 a comic. There are comics in there from late 80 to earl 00's. I know they aren't valuable, but I'd at least want $1000 to recoup what I lost to that *****.

I'd be willing to drive it anywhere in NJ, NY, CT just to sell them off.

If anyone can offer help I would appreciate it.
