Hi, all. Been following customizing websites for years, I am finally able to start, but I was wondering after removing paint apps and washing figure should I apply primer?

Primer is a must for any paint job if you don't plan to use the paint that bonds to plastic or already comes with primer in it.

Also, this is in the wrong section and will be moved.

Yeah wrong spot but no harm done. :)

I generally don't prime my figures but for the best results the guys that are above me do, I believe. So basically if you want the best you can, probably prime it, but it can look good unprimed too.

For example, unprimed figures (and an excuse to repost these pics :p  ):

Yes I always use primer just because most the time the base model is made up of different color plastic and if you were to paint it you would have different shades of the same color, and with putty and styrene mods I add that also causes more issues. So yes primer is a must for me!

Once the primer is used you will have a consistent base color and when you apply the finish color it will be all on shade. don't forget you will need to sand down your joints a bit more

I always use a Black primer, from pretty much any company that will bond to plastic. I usually let the primer cure for at lest 2-4 days (unless there is a lot of humidity then it can be over a week), as generally the longer a primer sits, the better the adhesion.

I prefer to use a plastic/vinyl dye for base coats. It dries quicker, stays on better and you don't need to build it up as much as a primer/paint combo which means joints work better and you retain a lot more detail of the plastic.

What type of primer do I need? Does it need to be special model primer or will cheep primer work from Walmart?
