    Hey, I am about to buy a shapeways kit and was wondering what would be the best paint to use for painting it? I am going to buy the rougher shapeways mold so what paint would be best? I want the paint to last and not chip off easily. If anyone can help that'd be much appreciated.

    if it is going to be a black base color, i strongly suggest dying with RIT dye. this applies to black only

    otherwise, i find that using alcohol based gundam markers has a similar effect in that the paint will not chip off and goes right into the plastic and i personally recommend using them. you will need at least 2 coats to get it look good especially for metalic colors but they dry fast and their coat layers are much thinner. sharpies also work similarly but they leave a terrible if not toxic smell if you use sharpies to paint it over a large area (tried with black at least)

    and i paint on white strong flexible polished

    CUD is the worst to paint. I haven't discovered anything I like. WSF, just use whatever. It loves paint.

    I use Tamiya or Citadel paints and haven't had any issue with them for Shapeways stuff. It's rather easy to paint.

    Hello, Would acrylic-based craft enamel spraypaints like Plasti-Kote be any good for painting shapeways items?

    Hey, I thought about making a new topic about this, but since this one already exists I hope nobody minds me bringing it back, but I got something printed in Frosted Extreme Detail and want to know what's the best way to paint it if anyone has experience with the material. The part doesn't have a lot of detail, but it's got some detail that I don't want to lose.

    I've got a pack of the basic Testors acrylic paints (same brand as seen here) and one bottle of some Testors paint I mixed together for color matching. I've also got a can of Testors silver spray enamel and Model Master white primer spray. I haven't started painting it completely yet, but I did try painting an area that wouldn't be visible with two coats of white to get my hands dirty a little.

    Also, I've read that Extreme Detail parts will feel waxy when they come in the mail, but it's been close to a month since then and as far as I can tell it doesn't feel waxy at all, but it's still translucent when it's suppose to turn opaque when you thoroughly clean it to get the wax off.
    I'm probably going to order the part again in the future but with minor tweaks, so I won't be too upset if I somehow botch this, but I would prefer to not have to spend an extra $10 to have it replaced.
