I have been using the green stuff forever. I have good results on mini's, because at that scale I don't have to get super detailed. However, I don't feel like I'm getting the detail I want because of the elasticity and open time with the green stuff. I know a lot of people use aves. Is it easier to work with than the green stuff? Are there two types of aves? Which is better?
I haven't used the green stuff so I don't really know about it, but I have used Aves, and it is amazing! If you haven't, you should check out this Link! http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/tutorials-how-tos/214512-whats-apoxie-sculpt-glad-you-asked.html
Thanks for reminding me about this post. I guess I should have searched a bit better. Does anyone else have any personal comparisons? I know a lot of people use it, I'm just wondering what to expect if/when I take the plunge.
I don't have comparisons, but Aves has a ton of range and dries hard as a rock. It can almost be used as glue in some applications. It doesn't change shape or expand at all once sculpted. It's a good idea to get the "safety solution" when ordering. It can help with elasticity and detail. I love the stuff.
When I use Apoxie Sculpt sometimes the plastic won't adhere to is very well after it's dried. But then it's taken a perfect shape and using super glue works like a charm!
Generally I like Aves better, mostly because it's MUCH less expensive and a fair bit easier to work with. Green stuff, however definitely has some great advantages, it's got a bit of flexibility when hardened, which can help avoid breakage, in generally it adheres better to most plastics in my experience, and if you want to get really artsy with your scultping, Green stuff can be stretched taffy-style to make "sheets" and "strands" or 'straps" all of which are generally more useful for organic style charcaters than robots, but I don't know what projects you're working on, so I don't want to assume Also, I haven't had a chance to actually USE this on anything yet, but this stuff is CRAZY cool: The future needs fixing - the future needs fixing - sugru
Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but as I was looking for Apoxie threads I found this, and was curious. What is the "green stuff?" I'm familiar with Squadron Green putty, but in my (admittedly limited) experience, that doesn't act like what DestroyerLupus was talking about.
Lol! i assumed it was a casual way to refer to some other product. I didn't even consider that it might be the official name. Thanks!
