Basic Cheap & Easy Ink Wash and Dry Brushing Tutorial

I've had a lot of people ask me how to do ink washes and dry brushing so I made this video to explain an inexpensive and easy way to do it.
Basic stuff but its a great way to get into customizing!

Question: Is it possible to do a wash to bring out details with a black Transformer? Would you use something like silver in that case?

Thanks for taking the time on this. It's a fantastic resource for the community. Very helpful, and quite inspiring. Time to go dig up my DotM Shockwave...

Silver or gunmetal will work pretty well =)

I just tried this using some Testors Flat Black acrylic. After three minutes the paint was so stuck on there that I had to use a magic eraser to clear the excess, which took a fair amount out of the recesses.

Anyway, you mention using the cheaper Walmart stuff as a cost cutting measure. But it might actually be better. Anyone got any take on this?

Great idea with the alcohol. Lower surface tension for the win!

the technique U9 uses above works well, it's hard sometimes when you're cautious of the paint / base coat. Personally, I usually let the gravity and thinned paint combo do the work for me...hit a corner with a little VERY thinned out paint and it climbs into all the cracks on it's own, and at that point it's done. It's also a good idea to work backwards with paint strength...example : my base coats are in lacquer (can only be effected/smudges/removed with lacquer thinner) so when I apply washes and/or details with enamel, if I screw up, paint thinner WON'T effect the base coat. Same when working with enamel, then doing washes/details with acrylic.
