Question about washing before painting

I'm about to start my first custom, so I've been reading, and re-reading the tutorials to make sure I do it right. I'm making sure I take the proper precautions to make sure I get the best results possible so I'm about to wash my figures... but when you soak the parts do you need to remove ALL pins? If i soak the pins in water will they rust? This may sound like a stupid question but I don't want to ruin the joints on my figures

Any help is appreciated.

They won't rust.

They'll only rust if you plan on leaving them in water forever.
