i have been on the hunt to make a g1 accurate devastator with g1 accurate constructicons (i know im a little late now seeing how tfc is making one) but i am ahead of the curve with nearly 3 of my 6 done or atleast planned out. here are some of them so far incase you havent been following http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/312388-mix-master-wip.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/500975-bonecrusher-v-2-0-a.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/320190-constructicon-scavenger.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/324256-custon-longhaul.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/335688-constructicon-scrapper.html http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/373700-constructicon-hook.html and a thread on the big guy himself http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/329755-wip-g1-accurate-devastator-5.html so i need help with hook and longhaul (i am not using the rid build team) progress on the big boy my thought on longhaul i am thinking of using generations drifts arms a classics prowl mid torso and rid steamhammer's waist so the thighs have some bulk and strong joints and the dump truck being a cat mini mover reshell hook i am lost i cant find a model crane that looks similar or is in the right scale so i guess i will have to scratch build the cab lower torso will be classics prowl the front of the crane will be attatched to it to form proper legs and im stuck on the arms and upper body i would really like to find a deluxe size figure that has wheels on his arms (2 per arm) but i cant think of any. so i need you guys help im at a standstill as far as parts go for hook and longhaul may change completely when i get started, as i feer the legs will be to skinny for the rest of him when they merge to form devastator
I've considered using some of the Seeker molds (stripped down to basic body) and using those to do reshells or completely build onto with styrene. I've thought of this for my own version of Mixmaster, which will never get done due to time and too much crap going on around here. But I'm thinking it could work for Hook also. You could use the Classics 2-pack Prime leg wheels and build them onto the arms possibly (this is the idea I'm having for Mixmaster also). Hopefully this can help you a bit. I can't think of too many bots that have wheels on the arms (2 on each arm, I mean) and the quickest thing to pop into my head was the 2-pack Prime wheels. Good luck and I can't wait to see where you take these, bro!
man great minds must think alike cause i have a set of those legs and was thinking the same thing. how thin can i cut those and will they fit without being to wide. and i really like the idw all hail megatron designs for robot modes so i have been following that pretty closely. but thanks for the tip on those i just wish i could figure out hooks cab without having to scratch build it
I've considered using the backpack/crane from RID Hightower for Hook, since it looks similar to the cab on G1 Hook (just needs a bit of cutting/modding). I don't have the 2-pack Prime wheels handy (already packed 'em up to work on later), but I just took the legs apart and kept the side with the wheels. I haven't gone thinner on it or anything yet, but I think they could easily attach to the folded up Seeker arms and then cut to allow for bot mode transformation. Maybe you can work the cab parts into the Seeker mold also by using the rear jet fins that fold up and down along the side of the leg--it might be possible to build onto that part so that the cab can flip down in bot mode.
all great ideas bo bad i already trashed the hook cab you are talking about gues i can always get another one of those though. i think i am going to try your seeker ida for the upper body of hook though i just hope it doesnt make me want to redo mixmaster
lol--yeah, I'm assuming the Seeker body will work out well, just haven't actually tried it yet. I've stripped mine of all the excess parts and I have the parts I need to build Mixmaster with, just need the time to jump on it. Good luck, man--I really dig these threads where we can share some cool ideas and come up with some awesome stuff. Keep up the great work, my friend!
yeah you have given me a lot of great ideas and after using the seeker body for scavenger i dont konw why i didnt use it more aad probably should have but my mixmaster is done minus2 thigs a head and finishing the head cannon then its just detail but if hook comes out really well i may redo it because in my head the arms folding in the chest will work out so much better but what is really funny is how much things change when you get the parts in hand. i ended up going wiht the classics prowl mold for the arms and mid section on longhaul i will be posting pics of his upper torso soon but im not making anything to final as i am sort of left at the moment without a place to hid the head hahah
I've been working on the Combaticons and Bruticus for nearly 2 years now and I STILL change things up as I go along. lol Can't wait to see what you post up soon, man.
ran into a bit of a problem with longhaul (i thought he would be the simple one) i dont want to devastator to have a deluxe sized waist. obviously that leaves partsforming any of you guys got some good ideas
k might have longhaul figured out as far as the waist goes and i sohould be doing some styrene work for scavenger today, and i think im about ready to do scrapper aswell
ok hXcpunk23 i have a new idea for hook using the classics molds prowl lowerbody (to make the cab and such close back onto) sideswipe uppertorso with a hook style chestplate built on and i think i want to borrow drifts arms, i like the way the arms are covered up by the front fenders so i am wondering if i can do that while attatching the 2 rear wheels to it
I dumped my RID Hightower Hook in favor of the "Intelligence Warrior" Hook figure. It's not perfect, but it's so far the best base figure I can find. I'm also using the "Intelligence Warrior" Mixmaster. Minimal partsforming, and that's just the cement barrel. I might be adding a couple pieces for working it into the combiner, but that would be it.
i used parts of the mixmaster for mine but i am pretty much repainting the scrapper from that set with a new head and calling it a day he is a great update to him
