Let's change ROTF: Leader Prime's head LED...together.

I will post a video later.

So I have gotta some questions about the LED in Leader class primes head. Well, green is just not the way to go now is? I think not. So, you wanna change it? It is very easy!!

I am gonna name the three major parts you have to work with.

1. The head

2. The LED holder

3. The Neck

TOOLS:
SCREW DRIVER
PRY DEVICE
SOLDERING IRON
SOLDER.
Maybe some tape to help hold the LED in place when you solder.
Small wire strippers.
You will also need a 3mm high intense white or blue LED

Those may have specific names, but I don't know them

Step one: Remove Prime from package

Step two: Unscrew Primes head using appropriate size screw driver. Remove it and be sure the transparent blue piece stays in place. Also, as a good rule of thumb, keep the screw in the head when you put it aside!

Step 3: Remove the screw that is holding the LED holder. It is the only screw visible, the other below it is a pin you do not need to remove.

Step 4: From behind, pry the neck open while removing the LED holder. Be sure not to apply to much pressure when prying, but IT WILL be okay to get the LED HOLDER out. (This is a little scary at first, but it is okay)

Step 5: Open the LED holder making sure you keep the wire through the little hold while you work here. Snip the wires as close to the LED as you can. Remove the LED. Strip the wire just enough to solder. Cut the new LED leads short enough to fit inside the LED HOLDER. Be sure you know which side is positive. You can do this by making Prime talk and holding the ends of the LED to the exposed wires.

Step 6: Solder together. Close back up. Pry open the neck once more and put the LED holder back in it!! Screw the head back on!!

Hopefully this will help somebody.

I DO NOT HOLD ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR INJURIES TO YOURSELF OR PRIME!! DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

The result. This is not photoshopped. I just took the pic in the dark. (I will do a light up blade tutorial later)

Seeing as how I can barely use an Xacto knife without severing an artery, I'm not touching this one. Very informative, though.

You and me both! If there's a knife involved, I'll cut myself. If there's glue involved, I'll glue my fingers together. I'd hate to think what would happen if soldering is involved.

Thas cool, but I'd never do that. After all, chopping up a $50 dollar figure doesn't seem smart to me.

I would add that the only cutting that needs to be involved is the removal of the insulation. It's a lot easier to desolder the green LED than to snip it off and strip the wires. This also leaves some solder on the wires- free tinning!

CUTTING? OHHH. THE blade. I was using that to pry open the LED holder!!! Only cutting is the wires.

Sigh of relief.

Yes the green would mix with whatever color you painted.

I believe the longer leg of the led is the positive. It has been a while since I've done anything with led's
