hey everyone, seeing how the new movie figures are coming out, and prime is once again chrome less, I was looking around trying to find something of realy use to make REAL chrome at home. I came across this site, and i was wondering if anyone here has used this. Here's the site.

When electroplating doesn't the item being plated have to be able to carry the current of electricity? Wont work on plastic i think.

Yeah this will only work with metal items. Plastic does not conduct electricity so this would never work.. BUT this could work on Diecast parts, not sure how well it would work though.. Very cool Find though.

 

Site offers a way to coat plastic but it is wayyyyy to expensive. doesn't seem worth it.

 

Yea, that triple coat chrome is what your talkin about, right?

 

Or, you can spray the plastic with a coat of Silvaspray to make it conductive....

See, that's what I thought, but I'm guessing this means no one has tried it. I might go and buy this when I get some extra money to see how it works out. I was reading through their forums, and they say that the pl n plate stuff isn't as bright as show chrome though. But oh well, its still better than spray chrome, right? Well... Maybe it is.

 

i so want this however OMFG WTF >>> Silvaspray Conductive Paint 8 oz $149.00 thats more than most epoxy paints ten fold 8oz is allot but sheesh

i can make the saline solution and the electric delivery system . however the sliverspray paint is hard for me to justify without having a sample of it on some plastic to test its durability. it makes me wanna cry 

 

Holy crap that's quite a price for that special conductive paint. No thanks, 8 bucks for alclad and some more practice will do me just fine. LOL

 

yes my sentiments exactly i thought the same thing. i guess they just want a jewelers market. i can't see the cost of producing the paint justifying that price. i think they should broaden there market and lower there price. kitbashers like us would be all over this if the price was more feasible. i am thinking this process is easier than alclad thats why i have interest.

 

You think alclad is conductive? if it is problem solved! LOL Your absolutely right this stuff is easy to use, seems like you just connect then brush on.

 

you would think alclad is conductive but i bet there is some trick to the conductive paint. like maybe the metallic particles are closer to the surface of the paint or something idk.

i tell you what though i will start experimenting with it see if i can come up with something..  i have some alclad and the other materials needed.

 

I'm wondering if some of those "metallic" paints actually have enough metal in them to make them conductive. Would be a good experiment. Hook up a voltage detector to both ends of the part and check for conductivity. I'd bet some random Spray can has enough metal particles in it.

 

you can get conductive paint for repairing circuit boards or you could probably find some lead based paint.

 

Lead paint? I think I might have to use my painting mask when air brushing that stuff hehe

 

yeah i heard of this from redoing gutair electronics from what i have seen it was like a paste . its expensive to i think?

I think you can get in a pen form also. Would be nice to draw on designs and then plate them.
