A couple of days ago, I mentioned the local Michael's was out of 1/4" rare earth magnets. I headed over to radio shack (which someone recommended) only to find 1/4" priced at $1.99 EACH :O I was just in WalMart picking up (more) Fusion, and low and behold in the "clearance" section of the toy department, they had those magnet building sets on sale for $8.00. (for those not near a walmart, these things are ALL OVER ebay) Each "connector" piece has 2 rare earth magnets on each end. With a lighter and an X-acto blade, these things pop off in seconds. I took apart all 70 (140 magnets) in about 15 minutes. I cut off the plastic on the very ends, burn the plastic casing around the magnet (about 5 seconds under the flame so it softens) Then pry each one out with the X-acto. No more paying $5.00 for a set of 6. I now have what looks like a neverending supply of these kitbashing and custom must-haves. [att]5411[/att]
Thanks for the heads up...and yea, Radio Shack is a rip off. I also found a site online that has decent prices and some specialty styles. http://www.rare-earth-magnets.com/
Heh, those 1/4 rare earth magnets sell for $3.99 at my local Radioshack. I figured I'd hit a Kmart to see if I could find something similar since it was on my way home today. They have Magnetix that are 20% off for those looking for an alternative.
