This is a product that I thought was well worth bringing to the attention of anyone who... likes chrome, really. Frenzy_Rumble used it on his recent movie Jazz repaint, but I've been wanting to try it myself for quite some time, and last week I ordered a bottle. Most chrome paints leave a lot to be desired; they usually come in an aerosol with a shiny chrome lid, but the final result winds up closer to a glossy aluminium. Hardly the same thing. This stuff is quite the reverse. It doesn't look any different to anything you've used before; kind of like a bottle of silver drawing ink. But the results are far more impressive. It's designed to be airbrushed over a coat of gloss black enamel, and while I actually used a soft sable brush (as I don't own an airbrush), after just three coats, my KO Reverse Convoy's forearm looks pretty much like I'd had it professionally chromed. It dries fairly quickly (within minutes), and the finish seems fairly durable, although I haven't rigorously tested that aspect yet. If you want a realistic-looking chrome finish on your customs, this here is the stuff to get. Thats really nice. When i have some money and need chrome i think i'll probably invest in some of this stuff.
Well worth it. I ordered mine from modelsforsale.com (the link goes directly to the Alclad page); £3.60 a bottle, and I think it's going to go a long way (and I've already got several projects I want to use it on ).
the aerosol can is decent also. like the OP said, unless you are painting onto black, it;s like nothing is coming out of your spray, if you were to get some on your hand, you can't hardly see it. it's magic

Why would I not? I noticed it's out of stock at the mo, but it'll probably come in again soon. These guys do have a minimum £5 order, though (which I made up by grabbing some more enamel paints), and postage will be at least £3.50; on the other hand, it will be sent by recorded delivery. Mine arrived a couple of working days after ordering.
Looks well worth it, can you take some pictures with some white/colorful stuff around it so I can see how shiny and reflective it is?
damn thats great, I dont even need to use my airbrush which I havnt used in years cause its a pain in the butt. Now to get me some Alclad chrome, thx for the tips!
I think I'd recommend trying the airbrush if you can, as you should wind up with a much smoother finish to your coats. But if that's not practical, then yeah, you should be fine as long as you use a decent soft brush instead. I'll see what I can do. Tell you what, at the moment I'm partway through chroming some bits from my Classics Magnus (waiting for the first basecoat to cure enough for a new layer). Once that's done, I'll give 'em a little photoshoot for ya. I think the third photo above does a pretty good job of showing the reflectivity, where you can see the shoulder cannon reflected in his arm. But I'll set up Magnus' legs with some other stuff - I should be able to do that tomorrow.
Thanks RR, I am really want to see it with white reflecting it the most as that will really tell me about this stuff. I ordered some non the less but I wonder how the rest of there finishes are.
*ponder* Does it have to be gloss black? 'Cuz I've got a nice semi-gloss black that I wouldn't mind using up. . .
I've edited the top post with some photos of my Classics Magnus, on a white background. Is this the sort of thing you had in mind? The first pic I think shows best what you're after, you can quite easily see the paper (that it's resting on) reflected in the crotchplate. On the third pic I kind of accidentally caught the flash dead on the left thigh - got quite a nice glare off it!
I used it on some acrylic gloss black and it didn't come out too shabby! and ty for letting us know that it CAN be used w/o an airbrush. that's awesome news

No problem. Though I will stress that if you can use an airbrush for it, I'd very much recommend it. When applying on larger areas with a brush, it's that much more difficult to get a completely even coverage than you could with an airbrush. Pleasure. Personally, the third one's my favourite - I've never seen that quality of glare on any silver paint before! As cool as the rest of their metals look, they don't really appear (at first glance) to be much different to what you could easily achieve with acrylics (or possibly enamels, though I don't have the experience with them yet to be sure). Were I to try more of their stuff, I'd likely go for some of that there colour-changing paint - the scarabeous blue looks yummy, and I've always loved the gold/green effect.
That looks really cool, but I have a question. Can you paint clear colors over the chrome paint? Like, could I paint clear blue over the alclad and get chrome blue?
