Hey all, Recently found out that Windblade has been painted up as Stocking Anarchy for her SG variant, I was wondering what model of Windblade would be the best by virtue of posability and availability for making a repaint. Any suggestions?
I'd wait for an upcoming NuRID Windblade Warrior-class mold. If anything, it might be easier to dismantle for painting. Gen WB has quite a few metal pins to remove, not only on limbs, but the entire wings assembly. Also, it's not a very good mold with some serious stability issues.
Just dropping off some reference material if you need it. Link: Shattered Glass Windblade by HEXdidnt on DeviantArt My opinion is to stick with the original mold but if you want some "out there" suggestions then I'd try First Edition or Powerizer Prime Starscream but that's gonna need a lot of retooling. I'm personally curious if anyone has considered SG Nautica, Strongarm (RiD), or maybe the newly (re)introduced Gaea. Mine havent had much issues with stability but if youre talking about posing then I see what youre getting at. There is an upgrade kit that replaces the heels that I'd give a shot for the customizer. Not sure if I'd recommend the RiD version aside from easier disassembly.
The way I see it, Gen WB isn't very fun to transform, can not always align all parts perfectly, the airplane model has a large gap in the middle and robot boots stuck on top of it. Can't say, of course, how much better (if at all) will be NuRID mold without having it in hand. May be as bad minus clear plastic and metal pins. So far it looks like it has better feet but not much more can be said with a photo only.
^ I can agree with that. Although the gap in the plane mode never really bothered me (not sure why) I can say that she has tabbing/paneling issues. From what it looks like RiD WB may be the same just without the plane mode gap and possibly more stable heels. Time will tell.
Gen Windblade is legitimately the worst TF I've bought in years since AOE Lockdown. And even he was a fine figure, just a terrible representation of the character. Gen Winblade is horrid, nothing feels solid and her articulation is frustratingly limited by the sculpt or inability to stand whatsoever, and her jet mode is awful. The best part of the figure is her cool sword. NuRID Windblade looks way better, if a bit simpler. The worst she seems to have is a slightly bigger backpack and of course if you don't like the RID face aestehtic. I'd definitely hold out for her instead.
Given as I already own gen WB, I may look for a headswap with a NuRID one once I got it in my paws. Provided the head is of a size similar enough. The biggest difference in aesthetics would be the head, the rest is fairly close if simplified.
@Splitlip: Well my experience differs from you. She's an adequate mold with an achilles heel. Fix the problem and she goes from adequete to passable (3.5-4 out of 5). Still, it goes without saying that this is why we need a 3rd party WB if not just as an alternative to Hasbro's offerings. BTW, I found some more art of SG Windblade for reference if needed.
Oh dang! that reference art is highly appreciated! I'd had some rough ideas I'd sketched, but seeing it in practice will help for accuracy for certain. I'll probably go with NuRiD's Windblade. the face design doesn't bother me that much, especially considering the fact Panty and Stocking often neglected the whole "nose" thing too. By the way though, is that SG Chromia Canon? I didn't see any references on the wiki to the theme carrying to other characters.
Yeah, that's actually pretty cool that NuRID face kinda fits in line with a chibified anime look. Gen Windblade has a very stoic, harsh look.
Nope. However we do have SG Nautica and RiD Strongarm. The former is colored like Scylla and the latter like Gobot Crasher. Wierd coincidence is that Chromia looks like a custom a planned for a waitress in Wings of Honor. This girl to be precise. BTW you're welcome for the art.
