Mighty Orbots was a short-lived animated cartoon that aired on Saturday mornings in 1984. The show's catchy opening song, top-notch visuals, cool and campy voice-over narrations, freaky super-villain and cool 'bots made this show memorable despite it consisting of just 13 episodes.

The Orbots were five human-sized robots -- muscular Tor, slender, shape-shifting Bort, fembots Bo and Boo, and rotund Crunch. Created and led by Rob Simmons, the Orbots could super-size themselves and combine into a mighty super-robot called... Mighty Orbots. When the Orbots had united, Rob Simmons, and his robotic sidekick Ono could take command by piloting their Beam Car into a chamber within Mighty Orbots' chest.

If I were a skilled customizer, I'd try to design a Combiner Wars version of the Orbots. Although the actual Orbots, save Bort, lacked "alt modes," restyling existing Combiner Wars figures' alt modes into "futuristic" vehicle modes for the Orbots would be really cool.

    • Optimus Prime would be a great Tor. His brutish physique resembles Tor's and his upper body is already Tor-colored. The shell halves that form Ultra Prime's barrel chest (if they're kept closed) could, with minor restyling, be made to more closely resemble Mighty Orbot's chest.
    • Mirage would be a good Bort. Bort is slender, and his most remembered "alt mode," a spacecraft of sorts, could be mimicked by redesigning Mirage's car bits.
    • Sunstreaker would be a good Bo. None of the CW molds is an ideal "fembot," but Sunstreaker's sleek car mode and general head design are a bit reminiscent of Bo.
    • Alpha Bravo would be a good Boo, especially if the helicopter parts were restyled to look more like a spacecraft.
    • Rook would be a good Crunch. He has the bulk, and his alt mode could be made to resemble a futuristic garbage truck.

Although the legends-class CW figures don't interest me generally, Blackjack might make a good Ono, with its alt mode decorated to resemble Rob Simmons' Beam Car.

I've never customized actual Transfomers toys, and I'm too immersed in my custom Voltron project to embark on another project, but... dang, CW Mighty Orbots would be cool!

I know God Mars was a key design reference for Mighty Orbots. I'm more interested in CW interpretations of the characters. They'd be more articulated and... well... fun.

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread, but with the release of the Moonracer/Novastar mold I was thinking that it would be a good time for someone to revisit the idea of a Combiner Wars Mighty Orbots:

Tor: The same as what Cliffbee said in 2015, the Optimus Prime/Motormaster mold would be a perfect fit, for the same reasons that Cliffbee listed.

    Bo and Boo:
Now that there is a very slender body type in the Combiner Wars style, this mold would be a perfect fit for the very slender female Mighty Orbot members. The Moonracer/Novastar arm mode is pretty decent too, which is a plus.

    Crunch:
Same as Cliffbee's suggestion, the Rook mold would still be the best stand in for the bulky character.

    Bort:
Er, I'm not sure on what would be the best suggestion for Bort. Like Cliffbee said, his most remembered transformation is into a jet/space plane kind of thing, so possibly one of the plane molds, but none of them really feel right. The Mirage mold would look long and lanky, like Cliffbee suggested, and if the vehicle mode was remolded, a space plane look could be achieved, I suppose. Rook's leg mode and Mirage's leg mode wouldn't look too bad alongside each other either.

Ohno/Beam Car: And again, still using Blackjack as a basis, like Cliffbee suggested.
