Err,a friend of mine is taking up a novel about Transformers written by himself, and neither of us speak much English. We both know that in the comic series Soundwave can just turn into a music player or sth, which don't look the same size as himself. So,the objects TFs turn into have nothing to do with themselves and the volume doesn't matter, they can be either as big or as small as they like, right? It's "Component compression"(translated by machines),right? We think that their abilities, strength, etc. make no differences to what they turn into,is that so?For example, even if one can be a Cybertronian jet while the other is only a small car, they can be the same size in robot mode, right?
Maybe this thread is in the improper section, please forgive me,dear admins.
I am really appreciated.(if someone ignores my poor English and really answers...)

It's called mass shifting, it's appeared several times throughout Transformers, and depending on the continuity, it may or may not exist. I think in the original cartoon, it wasn't so much that a transformer would change from a large jet to an average robot, so much as it was that they would turn from a car-sized jet into an average sized robot.

Err...I've got another question. What affects the origin physiques of transformers in robot mode, please? Will it weaken their armor if they transform into vehicles too big for their figures in robot mode?By the way, which word do you guys often use to describe transformers(size, physique, figure, samatotype and so on)?Thx.

OK so my headcanon (stuff that I believe) is that a Transformer will have its extra mass stored in something called subspace, a pocket dimension, when it turns into a smaller mode. On the actual topic umm no I don't think so for the first one. OK I'm not sure about any of that but I generally use mech or femme when describing different "genders". Hope this helps.

Mass Shifting SHOULD matter. Not everybody should be able to do it. Considering if everybody could mass shift, why not make yourself gigantic & stomp everyone else? Or shrink down tiny enough to just invade another bots body? I do find it odd that combiners also mass shift. Kinda negates the point of merging...
