Wondering if anybody has any good ideas for articulated hands for both CW Megatron toys-preferably and more easily- the G1 Megatron. I have spare MP Seeker fists in black & purple- near perfect for both at least in color. But they're a tad smaller, and can't hold the stock weapons that the Megatrons came with. I'm not too interested in going with Shapeways, if only because the expense and possibly lower quality plastics and durability. Any suggestions? Opinions?

On this custom Megatron done by Xaviercal, it looks like he used the KFC articulated hands designed for MP-10. I haven't tried it out yet but I'll bet the stock hands from MP-10 would work as well. The hands for MP-10B are black already so you wouldn't have to paint them.

I was looking at that earlier today and was wondering what hands those were. Thanks for that.

Any more ideas? Are there places online you can buy articulated hands for robot models? Like gundams or robotech?

Hmmm. Those MP-10B hands from KFC look good. And are "cheap" enough at $20 on bbts...

Yeah, I'm debating getting a set for my MP-10B and then using the stock hands for Megatron. It will depend on how well they fit with little to no modification.

Seems they're the same hands between the KFC Optimus versions and the Soundwave versions, except how they mount to each MP's wrists. So that's something to consider.

On a slightly related note, I just nodded my CW Megatron. I pried apart his fusion cannon & modded the barrel with a hinge pivot so it can aim up in tank mode.

DX9 is releasing an upgrade set that gives the figure ankle pivot and articulated hands.

Is there a link to that anyplace?

Oh wait. That's the parts-forming upgrade kit. I just want hands, unless that kit is cheap...

Ah. Found the preorder on bbts. Not sure I'd get it for $40. I'd like to see more detailed pix...

Fixed. Also, do you have pics of this mod? How difficult was it to get the cannon apart? Does it affect the ability to retract it for robot mode at all? I'd be really interested in giving this a go myself.

Maybe I can upload a pic later. Getting the cannon apart wasn't too bad. If you're careful. It's all pinned & glued together. No screws. And it doesn't affect the barrel retracting at all. What I did was get a small flathead screwdriver &/or a utility knife, and I started prying it apart at the back end of the main barrel. Then kept working my way around the sides popping it apart till I got to where it connects to the forearm. Once I was able to pull it off of that, I was able to push the retracting launcher part thru the back. The front of the main launcher has that front cap piece on it which I didn't want to mess with. From there I messed around with the launcher and found a good spot to cut it, beyond where the launcher mechanisms were. There's a detailing in the barrel where there's a groove, a long cylinder part, and another groove towards the back where there's some more detailing(a place where it looks like 2 tiny fusion cannons next to each other, & another scope thing on the other side of the shaft). I cut the barrel at the back groove near those scopes. Then I just made a hinge in that cylinder up to the 1st groove, and used some plastic in between which i pinned to the cylinder, & anchored in the back piece of the launcher part. Then I reassembled it all, and used a little glue to put the barrel back together.

That's a lot to read, but it wasn't too hard to do. As long as you kinda know what you're doing - like me:KINDA. Trial & error. In hind sight I'd prefer to have made it even farther back, since the barrel needs to push in a tiny bit so it looks more realistic, but it works well.
