Repainting Beast Machines Blackarachnia into her original Beast Colors.

And here we go! A step-by-step photo documentary of my first attempt!

    1. Soaking all day in a bowl of 91% alcohol. Notice all the silver bits. I forgot to take a pic of her before I took her apart and threw her in the bowl. Silver and metallic purple is a good combo :thumb

    2. The alcohol after all the paint that I had applied years ago was removed.

    3. This is how she looked after lots of soaking and scrubbing.

    4. I swear it kind of looks like there's a spot for a Decepticon symbol right below her calf.

    5. And her thorax looks almost like it has a giant Predacon symbol on it. Two big bug eyes on the sides and a mouth at the bottom.

    6. Who knew she was blonde??

    7. Sideview shot.

    8. I wasn't able to get all the silver off, that I had painted on before. But hopefully it won't be an issue.

    9. The hinge holding the spider head in place shattered spectacularly into several little pieces. I plan on super-glueing it back together, but I'm not looking forward to figuring out what goes where.

    10. The first coat of primer has been applied!

With that shattered part...it's translucent plastic. Translucent plastic and alcohol don't mix well, as the alcohol seems to really break down the plastic much easier than with other typical plastics. Certainly keep us posted on your progress!

Coincidentally I'm now about to be stripping paint from some figures so thanks for showing me what can happen if they're soaked. :)

    First coat of gold!
Sanded the figure lightly before painting.
Then I thinned the paint with water. A little too much, I think, on the first coat. Added some more paint back into it for the 2nd coat.
Going to add a 3rd coat later. It's kind of a beast getting this color to cover well.

    Making Progress.

    First coat of black.

I had to re-sand the black off after the first coat, because I hadn't thinned it enough. I really want all the details in the sculpt to show. Extra time, but I think it was worth it.

More gold! Looking more like metallic gold instead of pale yellow now.

Her neck and chest were the hardest parts to paint. The collar on her neck, just because it's so tiny and I had to be careful not to accidentally hit her shoulderpads with black. And her chest because of the black between her breasts.

And nearly finished! She just needs some paint on her elbows and shoulders (gotta go buy those colors). I want her to look as close to her BW self as possible, but I'm also trying to emphasize the details on this particular mold. So I won't be painting any gold dots on her pelvis, because there's lots of lines already sculpted in there. And I won't be painting the black web pattern on her chest, because there's 3 lines sculpted onto her breasts already. The web pattern would wind up making it look overly messy and cluttered, I think. If anything, I might paint the 3 lines black just to pay homage to the web pattern. Oh, and still gotta paint the black stripes on the tips of her claws.

I'm considering leaving the beast mode kibble off, because there were lots of broken bits around the hinges of both the head and spider thorax. I haven't even attempted to glue those back together yet. But I'm liking how BA looks without those pieces. And considering that I'm doing this repaint more for the robot mode anyway, I might leave those off. Makes her look more BW-ish without them.
