I'm looking for a protective coating that is highly durable to survive some transformations on my custom paint job?

Is there anything stronger than the sprays or Future to use over Testors Enamel metallic paint??

Not sure if stronger, but a customizer told me to use Krylon Surface Finish (transparent), which is found at walmart. I have seem a shinny finish, but haven't found a bottle of matte finish yet.

I haven't touched testors oil based for about 20 years, but doesn't it stay on well? I was thinking of switching from water based to oil based eventually once I learn more.

If you want it to protect a Transformer while Transforming, floor polish does that. I'm curious what task you are doing that floor polish cannot do.

I am as well. One of the main things that I really like about Future is the self-leveling aspect of it. I still do a lot of painting simply with my paintbrush. It doesn't totally eliminate brushstrokes, but boy it sure does take care of most of them. I mix it with my paint as well, especially when painting car bodies, as it gives that really nice sheen that cars have in reality.

Thank you for your replies, maybe I'm not using enough coats of Future?

I painted Toyworld Orion's torso silver with Testors Enamel metallic, and I add 2 to 3 coats of Future, but the paint just flakes off rather easily?

Maybe the paint just doesn't bite into the plastic they used possibly?

hmm, 2 to 3 coats of future, and it still flakes, and it's Testor Enamel paint which is supposed to be stronger than the Tamiya paint I use??? This does not look good for my future projects, which were going to be either of these two paints.

Oh by the way, did you wash the whole toy with coat / water and let it dry before painting? One of my Hasbro figs, I forgot to do that, and it gave me bad results.

hmm... I don't think I washed the figure...

I'd probably say I'm doing something wrong rather than the products I'm using are bad, unless Future goes bad after awhile?

just a question or rather 3,

before doing any paint, did you wash the figure with soapy water? that might cause paint to not adhere
did you sand or primer the figure before painting?

and let the enamels cure for a week before clear coating it. i

To be clear, NOT washing the figure can result in the paint flaking. Not the inverse. Sometimes the figures still have residue from the factories that makes them misbehave with paint.

I'll second automotive clear coat, I've been using Hycote (I'm, in the UK, not sure if ist available in the States) paints for a while now and have had excellent results, no eating of the plastics, very durable and a very nice finish. Iv'e used them on Hasbro, 3rd party and KO's without ary issues. Just to be on the safe side I would find a brand you want to try and test is on somthing your not too botherd about like a junker or somthing.
