I'm not talking about overall impact, I'm talking about the specific claim that old readers were already being driven away from the title. All I'm saying is based on sales so far it is doing better than the original Thor did at the same point in its run, which means there is no evidence that readers are abandoning the title

 

It also means that there is no evidence that they are not abanding the title (I think most readers will give a new series/reboot 3-4 issues before deciding on whether to keep buying though, the numbers for issues 5 and 6 will really tell the story). The only numbers that are available are how many issues are selling, not who is buying them. It could be a flood of new readers coming in for all anyone knows.
For the time being, Thor is my favorite comic on the market right now and has been since Thor: God of Thunder/Godbomb storyline. I am also enjoying the new Lady Thor storyline. But lets be honest, the male Thor will be back to being the "real" Thor with the "real" Mjolnir by the time Avengers 2 comes out. If the new Lady Thor lasts for 12 issues I would be truly surprised.
So far the whole storyline has been nothing but a PR stunt for Marvel, but I will admit I am enjoying it. Still there are so many unanswered questions... the biggest being why did Thor become unworthy. As another poster pointed out, it would have been more interesting to see Sif or Valkryie get the promotion. I am looking forward to the reveal of who Lady Thor is though.

 

Except if you are going to claim people are leaving a title, the onus is on you to back that claim. There is no evidence for it, therefore it is a bullshit claim.
I actually addressed the new readers thing already. If old readers are leaving the title, they are being replaced by even more new readers, which is still a big positive for the title.

We will have to see what happens in May then won't we. I'm not convinced, people love to label any attempt to increase diversity as a publicity stunt, but look at Ms Marvel? Best selling digital comic for Marvel, respectable print sales, plenty of people saying that was a pr stunt that wouldn't last twelve issues and she's nearly there. It's not like old Thor isn't still about and the link between the comic and movie universes is tenuous at the best of times.

I remember when fans said they would drop Spidey too after One More Day. They didn't. Fans are like addicts. They say they'll quit, but they keep coming back for more.  

 

Some people won't ever quit, but it doesn't mean they have to like it.  

 

Looking at how in the crapper sales are across the board, I'd say plenty of fans have long since given up the addiction.

 

I stopped reading spidey with omd and never went back! I am reading the comic forums so i'm up to date about spider verse but refuse to buy spidey after insulting us with “It's magic”. Tell you the truth i was thinking of getting spider verse due to all the spideys but when it turned into a bloodbath i refuse to buy it!

As for folks not wanting a female thor they said the same thing about starbuck in battlestar and now everyone likes the female version.

LOL, the impatience of modern comic book reader. Issue 4 and you're saying finally like the book is in the mid 30s or something.

Anyways, on the dropping Spidey, I was out even before OMD. I left after that horrible Gwen had an affair with Norman Osborn arc. So terrible and just knew the book was going to go downhill pretty fast after that.

Spider-Man really has been a dumping ground for some pretty awful stories.

 

Some pretty amazing ones too. Dan Slott is one of the best things to happen to Spider-Man since the early days. Spider-Verse has been great so far, except for Silk. She sucks em.

 

The early JMS stuff was great too. As was Millar's short Spider-man run.

 

Well, it's not a climax or a finale, I can see that. I think these two should have met a little earlier, that's all.

Now we can see what happens between these two and how either will react/adjust to this development. It's going to be violent, but it will certainly be something interesting and dynamic.

Agreed. While I wasn't such a fan of the mysticism push back then, JMS did a great job of managing it. It wasn't until Spider-verse that the whole Spider-totem thing really worked out for me.

I believe Brand New Day actually raised Spidey sales for a while - tho as with usual trends, they eventually settled back. As for the female Thor, well, technically she hasn't interacted with anyone yet, but I expect the rest to start referring to her as Thor, and the old Thor as Thor (by his old teammates/friends) or Odinson as was initially put out by Marvel.

It was revealed to be Roz Solomon, a SHIELD agent and recent acquaintance of Thor.

The Odinson however decided to let the female Thor carry the hammer with his blessing.

That was okay, I guess. At least Thor was reasonable about it.
