This is where I suspect Thor is still in the book. Its like Wonder woman becoming the new God of War. They didn't change her name to Ares even though she took his title. I suspect Roz Solomon becomes the New God of Thunder in a Thor book. Mjolnir does, after all, state to the effect of whoever holds it, should they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor. It definitely doesn't say shall be "Thor".

Was Roz Solomon in any other stories prior to this God of Thunder series? Because if not, it seems pretty obvious she was created with this transition in mind.

No. Anyone who is worthy to wield Mjolnir is Thor, this is a woman wielding Mjolnir. It isn't even the first time Marvel has done this, quite recently in whatever the Marvel AU is called Black Widow wielded Mjolnir.

As opposed to the usual blatant pandering to the minority that is white straight boys? They create original female superheroes as well. It may or may not work, it depends on the quality of writing.

 

Yeah, that's my main issue with it. Not the girl thing, just the name thing. It just doesn't make sense. It made sense in Earth X because it was Thor, just magically turned into a girl.
But why would a girl decide to call herself Thor? It would be like a guy getting the power of Wonder Woman or Power Girl and keeping the name.

I'm not disagreeing with the name thing (though making a name a title isn't exactly unprecedented, Augustus Caesar anyone?), but it isn't quite the same as Wonder Woman as Thor doesn't actually include a gender in it. It's a name.

It would be awesome if it turned out new Thor was just a huge Thor fangirl and decided to keep the name for that reason.

 

Could be that it'll be one of his daughters from Thor: God Of Thunder after the most metal thor ever succumbs to the evil of all-black the necrosword.

Do we even know that this character is going to be calling herself "Thor"? She may be the star of the Thor titled book, but in universe she may called herself Thunder Goddess for all we know.

Actually for quite a significant period for Marvel, it was an ID. To comic reading fans who didn't go through this part of the 90s, Thor was gone/banished, and his mantle, power and hammer were given to Eric Masterson. Masterson's Thor was more a superhero identity than anything else. The period also explored other people who would go on to wield the hammer and the power of the God of Thunder, such as Dargo, the future Thor, so it's not like the first time this happened.

1 Rogue became Thor by absorbing all of his power and with Thor being a God actualt becoming him litteraly admittadly in a what if.

2 Natasha did the same.

3 in a different thing Odin turned him female for a few centurys to teach him / her to respect women. i cant remember what the series was this was in it was the one Iceman became a fat billionair and the Setinels had a huge city.

Even then in mythology Thor has a daughter and 2 sons as well.

Those were alternate universes, this is the main Marvel U, but yes, we've seen it happen several times already.

but there is Torunn aka Thor girl.

 

Which will be just in time for Avengers 2, because Marvel always keep the status quo going just in time for a movie.

 

Though to be fair, everyone thought Masterson to be the real Thor. It was only until real Thor came back that most were let on about the duping.
