This may be a old news by now but I saw that Peter Parker is returning as Spiderman in a brand new Amazing Spiderman comic book. Also I believe that issue 1 is suppose to be released or his released this month. Now I have read very little Spiderman comics but is this new Spiderman series going to actually last for a time or what. Also I noticed there are Amazing Spiderman's issues 700.1 700.2 700.3 what is with Marvel and them numbering there freaking comics?

He's already back. And seeing as previous spider man comics have lasted for decades (and even this "event' lasted for like a year), I'm not sure why you're asking if a return to the status quo for the character is going to "last".

    Just to be safe...
Peter Parker is back, because of a body swap (which reminded me of the Goku/Captain Ginyu one from DBZ) he did with Doctor Octopus. Most of this was covered in "Superior Spider-Man" and maybe other Spider-Man comics. I only read Superior though. Only a very select few comic book characters stay dead or get stuck with permanent changes. Peter Parker isn't one of them. ;)

I meant the actual series itself "The Amazing Spiderman" because Marvel renumbers there stuff really often from what I know.

I figured Parker would be brought back eventually but this is a lot sooner then I thought.

Everyone's renumbering stuff these days, and even then it's hardly a new trend. If anything, Spider-man's been relatively immune to it, as that big ole 700 can attest to.

It happened in about a year like most of us predicted, just in time for Amazing Spider-man 2. So the Spidey on screen can be the one in the comics. They will start over with #1 until the next major milestone #750/800 then it will go back to the old numbering for a few months, then they will start with a new #1 again.

In today's comic standards renumbering/rebooting is very very very likely. I give it about 2-3 years before relaunching with a brand new #1 or resuming some big number off the previous series.

Also yes, the 700.1s and the 1.1s are just plain annoying. It's even worse with their upcoming Original Sin. I think it's because Marvel is trying to make it seem like a relevant issue rather than another potentially useless limited series/spinoff.

Even a couple of years is iffy. If the title has a major creative change, it's safe money renumbering might be coming.

Daredevil, didn't even need a creative change.

That's the sad part, both companies are hype, death, and crossovers, instead of solid plots and good storytelling. The books that are the most interesting often seem to be the ones without their main characters, as the companies aren't watching and ghost writing them as closely.

Both companies have always been about hype, don't fool yourself there.

While they are about that, I'm not sure you can call Superior Spider-man full of that as it was when it was initially launched. Sure it got a lot of hype for Doc Ock replacing Peter, but it was also some of the most interesting Spidey stories we've gotten in years - solid plots and storytelling. The thing it, it was also always meant to end (just like we knew it would) and things are back to almost normal. Now I'm curious where Dan Slott will guide Spidey, as he seems to be a pretty capable writer despite getting the wrong side of hype on his side sometimes.

Also, if anything, readers/collectors are also partially to blame for any of this - because like it or not, they'll buy on hype. It's not just comics mind you, they also tune in to TV shows/celebrities/music/toys the same way etc etc.
People are by nature curious and suckers for these things. Just look at our news feeds and social media. Take a look at the type of stuff they put out these days - just headlines full of "You'll never believe what happened...just click" or "Seeing what this person did will make you [fill out random emotion outburst]" It's annoying to the more discerning person, but what works works, unfortunately for us.

Very much true. Just take a look back during the early days of Marvel, Lee was always hyping the comics they were publishing. It's ingrained in the system.

True, but it's gone from hype, to TMZ style who will die next month hype. We have to have a death every 3 months. (They actually said this) It's gone from you won't belive what happens next issue true believers! To Tonight in Dc and Marvel comics some will die!, Some one will be resurrected! You need to buy 12 comics to follow this cross over, New #1 of the series that previously only had 6 issues before we rebooted it after a .1 issue. As we reboot the universe again. And that can be fun for awhile, but if it goes on to long it becomes a repeating pattern and the audience gets bored. Lets admit it most of us don't bat an eye when we hear a character will die anymore.

To the thread title I say who cares. Spider-man has been crap for years IMO. I can't sell these books in my shop to save my life. Out of all of my subscribers, only 2 of them even ordered the relaunch.

Considering I own a comic shop, I'd like to see Spidy sell better, Hell, I'd like to see all comics sell better, but Marvel and DC have just about chased off all of my customers with these damn relaunches and deaths/rebirths. I mean when I can sell more copies of, "Knights of the Dinner Table" than either X-men or Batman, I can't help but wonder WTF.

I think they should save decimal numbering for if/when they want to tell a story that takes place during a past event. Say, between issues 102 and 103. Then they could number them 102.1, 102.2, etc. But throwing them out as present issues is just dumb. Just call them 700, 701, 702, etc.

Of course not, in fact, life/death/rebirth is a staple of the comic book art form now. If it weren't for the hype, like you say, we probably wouldn't really question or object to it. It'd just be a natural part of the story-telling process. It's funny though, I was reading Necrosha X last night, and there is a scene where Collossus and his sister are fighting the zombie mutants. He says to her something like "This people should be dead!" and Magik replies "Well, we're ones to talk!" It was a very meta moment.

And TMZ style hype, you can thank the Bleeding Cools and Comicbookmovies for all of that. Doesn't help that they frame their stories to encourage that jaded fanboy mentality. The internet has opened the fandom to constant bitching without even having to read the books to bitch about them.

I am looking forward to seeing what Peter does with his new doctor status and owning his own company.

I would like him to keep the modified Spider-suit that Doc Ock created (the first one, not the second...though it does make a good-evil counterpart).

Considering that Spidey barely used the improvements made by his previous replacement Ben Reilly (stingers and impact webbing), I seriously doubt he'd make regular use of the improvements made by Doc Ock.
