What do you do when you start feeling overwhelmed by your collection?

I recently began to bag and board all my old comics, because I figured it was time to before something happened to'em all after years of being foot loose and fancy free, so to speak. And I just discovered that I must have close to 1000 assorted titles alone; now for some of you that might not seem like a lot because believe me I know there's probably guys out there with issues from everything from Amazing Spider-Man to Superman or something and beyond... But don't you ever feel overwhelmed by the sheer size of it all; how often do you take the time to re-read any of your collections? I haven't re-read any of mine for a considerable time; mostly because I haven't had the time and I guess that's true of a lot of us.


Still; how the hell does anybody sleep knowing they could have potentially 1000's of $$$ in comics including rare issues and the like???


Seriously; I might have to get rid of a few of mine, maybe all the DC stuff and classic individual issues of Marvel run TFs, just because I have all the Titan reprints anyway and aside from the issues featuring the Hush story arc none of my other Bat-Titles really stick out as worthy of my collection. (But maybe that's because aside from the DCAU I was never really a big fan of ol' pointy ears.)


Does anybody else feel as I do on occasion? Have you ever decided to bag and board some titles you haven't and wound up discovering you had a hell of a lot more then you thought when you started? I've been collecting a good five to ten years for the most part and I would have never believed it possible to amass so many in such a short time frame... At least from 2000 or so when I started actively going nuts over them all.

I suppose that's all I have to say on the matter; I just hope I can get enough bags and boards for all the stuff I do have, but it is quite costly.

I've sold virtually all of my singles over the years. Some I replaced with trades (Titans TFs in hardcover), other's I've simply scanned onto disk, in case I ever want to read them again.

My only singles left:

GI Joe (the complete Marvel run & the first Devil's Due series)
New Teen Titans (the first series)
The Flash (the complete series with Wally)
JSA (every JSA series, mini-series, special & JLA-crossover)
Every comics-formatted EC Comics reprint from the 1970s till now
Every Marvel US TF spin-off not collected by Titan.
About half of the Marvel UK TF comics

And that's it.

Now that the Flash has ended, everything new that I collect (other than the JSA) I collect in runs, based on the story & creative team, rather than buying every issue of a series just to have every issue now. That has also GREATLY reduced my stock of singles. I'm down to eight short boxes and one long box now. The long box for the EC Comics and four of the short boxes for the other runs above.

Storage space is what limits my collecting thesedays, volume or value has never bothered me.

Taste changes over the years as one collects anything. As a comic shop owner, I've seen it before many times. I'd say go through your collection and weed out anything that you've lost intrest in or may have picked up a trade paperback of and drop them on E-bay or take them to your local comic shop and trade them in for something that you have an intrest in now.

You'll feel better about your collection for being rid of stuff that you don't really want anymore and you can pick up a few thing that you've been wanting. A classic win-win for teh fan.

The problem with that is most of my stuff is like from a year ago or maybe as far back as 2000 when I picked up a few assorted titles from Marvel books... I brought a host of those in one time and would have only got 15$ for'em and that's only because of my almost complete run of The Micronauts The New Voyages from the eighties or whatever.
Even if I could get decent scratch for any of it I doubt they'd actually give it to me; after all they're in it to make money not dish out for maybe a few oddities or the like.

If I could make a trade for the MTMTE Trades from Dreamwave with some of my stuff I'd totally go for it, but as it stands I don't see anyone giving me slag all for the titles I'd be interested in weeding out from the collection... I paid about 4$ or 5$ for all my DC Batman and Batman Gotham Knights, if I only got the same or 3$ to 2$ for'em I'd be losing out on $$$, something I'm not too fond of in this the tight weeks when I've lost my job and don't know for sure where the hell I want to go to find a new one. Getting top dollar for all those books would greatly help, especially considering there's about twenty-five or fifty of them, but Comics aren't worth top dollar anymore unless they're uber rare stuff, which I know I don't have.

So what's a fellow to do? Sit on'em another eighty years and hope they go up in value? HA fat chance of that happening, most of the hard core comic readers will be dead by then and I don't see that many new generation readers getting involved in the franchises. Ah well; maybe I'll see a light concerning this sooner rather then later. *Imagine shruging smilie here*

I didn't expect to buy any Singles except Transformers when I started collecting in January, but I'm now buying New Avengers, Amazing Spiderman, Anihilation, Fantastic 4, and all the Civil War stuff, so now I need to start thinking of a filing system for my singles.

Overwhelmed is one way to describe it. I have neglected boarding books since august. I did it once since then and it was only 1 pack. So I have stacks and stacks on my floor. So a few weeks ago, I started catching up. So far I am at 4 packs and only 2/3 done.

So hopefully this weekend I can finish up boarding. But then I need boxes as well.

It never ends.

I've been collecting comics since I was 10 (or something) and I used to get them at the drug store. So those never was bagged. Yeah, I remember $1.00 comics. As time went on and I got older to venture off and find a real comic book store (Debut of Image Comics days) I kept those in bags. Recently, for the past few years, I really just buy my comics to read. The only reason I keep it is because I don't want to throw it away. Once they come out of the bag, they never go back, and if they get damaged, I really don't care, just so long as it's there for me to read. Which means ebay is out of the question. So I got boxes and boxes of old comics Knowing I may have a gem in my collection dosn't bother me, because like I said, I don't think it's in sellable condition. But I do remember having Ken Griffey Jr. and Mark McGuire rookie cards. That sucks knowing I don't have those no more.
