I was considering buying a few of my favorite comic issues that have been CGC graded. Has anyone bought CGC graded issues before? Do the comics move around inside the packaging, or do they have it very secure? Do you agree with the grading levels they give the items? Do you feel like it was worth the price you paid?
From my experience, they're very secure. The comic does not move around inside. Grading is and always will be subjective, but I would probably take an expert's opinion over my own if you don't have a lot of experience grading. I feel the price I pay is usually worth it because I check to see what a copy in the specified condition typically goes for (and don't overpay for it). One can expect a mark-up for the service, but if it's close to the market value of the issue, I will usually pull the trigger.
I have 4 graded books. The issue with grading is that if it isn't a 9.8 on a modern comic, it's usually a bust on resale. Also if you have autographed books, they need to witness the signature for certification. I have a copy of DD #1 signed by Palmiotti, Smith, and Quesada and it just says "writing on front". They didn't mark off for it but they didn't ceertify it for the signature series either. i like my graded books but don't love them. They are cool to have but if I didn't I wouldn't mind. The package is very secure and the books don't move. The grades are reasonable, not great.
Anyone know roughly what it costs to have a comic graded? I picked up an issue of The Amazing Spider-Man #121 today and am just curious if it would be worth getting graded. I know it wouldn't score really high, but I could see it getting something like a 6.0 maybe.
I have a Jim lee signed Xmen #1,i wouldn't dare send it off.The cover is unfold into the poster and it is in its own clamshell....in a frame in my living room. (this is directed at anyone just my 2cents) I think grading is a load of shit. This is from what i understand, correct me if i'm wrong... They charge you based on the graded value of the book and their scale doesn't really seem to make sense. It just depends on the day and person. How can they be experts if they are the only ones doing it?How is the value of a grade determined? The whole process just seems fishy to me.
Yeah, too risky. How would you ever recover the 60 cents that book is worth? Oh, never mind. I guess you already lost the 60 cents that book is worth.

Who cares about worth? I know its worthless, anyone that knows anything about xmen comics nows that. The question should be: How would i ever get Jim lee to sign a book for me again....I don't need some idiot telling me what my book is worth based on a scale that isn't there. If you want to protect your book...put it in a bag and board or if you want to try and get rich off of a company's scam, more power to you.Hell i could list a condition scale, have they ever released what their scale system is? Your money,do with it as you wish. I can always just take it out of the frame and fold it up and noone would know.I didn't rip the comic out. Don't worry,my 60cents is still safe.
Whoever is asking about CGC, because there's no other reason to permanently make his comic unreadable.
Here are my 3 books. (sorry for the poor pictures.) None of these are worth much but i don't care. Crappy 7.0 Rock Lords Comic! 9.0 5.5.
I would never buy a CGC graded comic. I don't think it's worth the price. Now, having said that, I did get CGC to grade a comic I already owned, Avengers Annual #10. I did it because it was a fairly nice copy and because both CGC and artist Michael Golden had booths at a local comic convention, so I was able to get them to witness the signature and certify it, and then hand it over to them right away to save on shipping costs, so the circumstances were ideal, otherwise I wouldn't have done it.
