COMICS: STAR WARS Comics Coming Back To Marvel

Hope we see a Crossover.   Not!

 

Hope we do not see a crossover. Ever. Of any kind. Also hope they keep some semblance of the Dark Horse continuity.

 

I'm not much of a fan of the comics, but seeing how Marvel did this back in 77 seems intresting.

Guess I would pick this Up when Issue #1 from Marvel republish it.

 

Considering that the new movies aren't following the EU, I think we're going to get an "EU 2.0" starting with the new comics.

I hope Dark Horse can do okay without Star Wars. It was one of its strongest tentpole franchises. At least they have Buffy and Hellboy. Who knows? Maybe this'll get them to put out more Aliens and Predator stuff.

 

It was inevitable when Disney bought Star Wars that this would happen.

 

Makes sense since Marvel is owned by Disney and were the original ones to do the SW comics. Though I think the Dark Horse era was a golden age for SW comics.

 

I just don't see Marvel able to resist having "the Empire vs the Shi'Ar or the Kree....a Skrull Jedi...Luke teams up with The Starjammers....

Marvel didn't do that when they had the SW liscense in the 70's and 80's. Don't see them doing that now. Though they did do some weird shit like have a seven foot tall green alien bunny man as one of Han Solo's buddies.

 

Yes, but they hadn't yet gone all crossover happy...or dealt with Disney's involvement...We've seen Mickey Mouse Star Wars, and that Mickey Mouse Megazord after all. Believe me, I'll be MORE than happy to never see a crossover like that hit my Diamond order, but I wont be surprised if it does.

 

I'll say this: if they can get Walt Simonson back to draw it, I'll buy every issue they put out. He just did an arc on Avengers, so he might be game for it.

 

From what my LCS owner tells me, the Dark Horse SW comics were never that great. I took his opinion and left it at that, so I've never read a SW comic. With this news, I'd consider picking up a #1 issue to see what it's like.

 

That sucks, you missed out on some fantastic books.

 

If he said that about the DH Star Wars comics, I would maybe think about looking into some of the other series he has told you were no good over the years. You may find some gems.

 

He lied to you. I've only ever read Legacy, but it's damn good.

 

If you want a good example of a badass SW comic, I suggest the Legacy series.

 

Legacy? Legacy is a bad ass comic? Isn't that like the one where Luke is a Force Ghost and helping his smuggler of an ancestor against hot red Twil'ek Sith?

Yeah... I'm sure that's worlds better than Dark Empire or the Crimson Empire stuff. Oh wait, what about the classic X-Wing series of issues?

Although you might have merit, I've been trying to sell off my older issues from DH and can't really seem to get anybody interested. And sure one or two might have bad covers due to age, but most of the rest are perfectly fine.

I'm so sure DH Star Wars is such an in demand thing, why else would my LCS only take four issues in for a trade-in deal back when I tried to get rid of them there? Oh right, perhaps because nobody is buying the damn things.

Seriously I'm not saying the stories are garbage or anything like that, but it seems to me that Dark Horse Star Wars only ever sells well in trade format, nobody buys the individual issues any more even just to collect. With the license going back to Marvel I'd wager the value for Dark Horse covers probably won't go up any either, but you never know.

I'd kind of like to see a What If Crossover style thing though, It would be kind of fun honestly, just look at all those Star Trek Marvel crossovers.

Calling it now, the next big Marvel Comics event will be Imperial Invasion, or perhaps Jedi Incursion? Maybe even Rise of the Sith, with special guest Spider-Man.

 

Try actually reading it dude, its easily in the same league as that stuff.

 

Word, Legacy was fantastic. I found it tapered off words the end, but the first 30 or so issues are fantastic and something I still pull out of the bin and read every once and a while.

 

Are you one of those people who judges if a comic is good by how much you can sell it for?

 

I'm way behind in reading regular Star Wars novel canon, keeping track of the comic canon on top of that is understandably a bit low on the priorities list. Hell I haven't even read my copy of Unifying Force yet and I've had it... What almost ten years? The book came out in 2003 didn't it? Hardcover I'm talking.

I haven't even read those other comics I mentioned, Dark Empire II is an Audio Book in my collection, so I know how decent it was story wise, as for the rest, not too much knowledge or understanding has been gleaned outside of what some of the earlier novel writers tied back/referrenced in their works.

That has nothing to do with how good or bad the comic in question is, I'm simply saying that the after market for SW Comics doesn't seem to be there, and I've been trying to sell about 13 issues of incomplete story arcs for 1$ each by this point now just to get them out of my collection to clear up some space. Nobody wants them, therefore the sales must not be there... At least for after market.

Some of the shittiest comics in the world are worth thousands of dollars for no good reason simply because of who wrote them or who drew them or both.

And yes, I am aware that I said they were incomplete story arcs above and so that might hurt my chances of parting with the comics, simply because it isn't a complete run, however I find it hard to believe that some fans aren't at least semi-interested or in need of single issues for whatever reason, be it collection gap refilling or a desire for the cover in question.

I'm probably coming off as more annoyed or bitter than I intend to, I just find it laughable that there are those who would defend Dark Horse to the death and call Marvel out for this when really it's all Disney's say on who gets the license. And quite frankly that one LCS that one of members was mentioning might not be as far off as you might think. We can all be blind to the rest of the comic book reading public when we look upon our favorite franchises with rose tinted glasses.
