Such a neat concept since 1976 with the world's first intercompany crossover comic, not counting 1975's MGM's Marvelous Wizard of Oz (which was the first comic published by two companies) known as Superman vs. Amazing Spider-Man. I still remembered when i was 10 in one of my city's mall book stores looking at the graphic novels to see what to buy as my first purchase as i spotted something called "Marvel/DC Crossover classics" as it said it had 4 amazing classic crossover comics from Superman vs. Spider-Man to X-Men/New Teen Titans as i was like "No way, far out man" as i bought it and loved it. It was like nothing i've ever seen before of seeing childhood comic heroes like Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Hulk and X-Men all in one collection together. I even collected the other crossovers when i was a teen especially Marvel vs. DC.

What are your fave crossovers?

JLA/Avengers.
Superman vs. Amazing Spider-Man.
Superman/Spider-Man.
Batman/Captain America.
Batman/Spider-Man.
X-Men/New Teen Titans.
Superman vs. Hulk.
some parts of Marvel vs. DC.
Darkseid vs. Galactus.
Green Lantern and Silver Surfer.

 

I liked JLA/Avengers for story, but Spider-Man/Batman for fun factor.

 

My favorites:

- The first wave of Amalgam titles
- Superman/Fantastic Four - Not the greatest story on it's own, but worth it for seeing the Cyborg Superman interact with the Fantastic Four.
- Batman/Spider-Man - Surprisingly good story that delved into all four characters fairly well. I also liked that there was no universe-hopping and the premise was that everyone was on the same "world"; these crossovers go much smoother than way, IMO.

I need to pick up the JLA/Avengers and New Teen Titans/X-Men ones, at some point.

 

Superman/Spider-Man was one of my first comics as a little kid. Still love it.

My other favorites are probably:
JLA/Avengers. Busiek really managed to nail a lot of great character moments on both sides, not to mention the way he cleverly incorporated a lot of different eras. I still wish we'd been able to get the original JLA/Avengers crossover from the 1980s as well, though.

X-Men/New Teen Titans. Classic. I remember reading it and thinking, "This artist would be great on Thor." Then sure enough, not long after...

 

Titans vs Xmen was good.
And I really enjoyed most of amalgam. But there were a few slugs in there

I think o e of the better crossovers was marvel and Wildstorm.

 

JLA/Avengers - definitely one of the all time greats. I loved how they managed to incorporate practically every JLA/Avenger member there ever was into the issue. I'd have loved to see them put out the fake "crossovers" they mentioned in issue 3 - the JSA/Invaders, Ultron/Amazo, Grim Reaper & the Key, and loved how they sneaked in the original unreleased JLA/Avengers into it as well.

Superman/Spider-Man - my mind was blown when I first read this during the late 80s. Had a more or less firm concept that Marvel/DC were separate companies and then found out they did a bunch of crossovers beginning with this was awesome!

Batman/Captain America - just a fun comic. I loved how John Byrne eventually incorporated some elements of this into his Superman/Batman Generations book.

Amalgam - while I felt DC vs Marvel wasn't that good (fight votes didn't really go the way they should have), the Amalgam comics were just plain fun. I even got the trading cards back then just for the backgrounders. I mean seriously, "Secret Crisis of the Infinity Hour"? How was that not made into a comic?   I'm even amazed they managed to set some sort of continuity for it in such a short amount of time. DCnU can't even set things straight with a longer amount of planning.

 

I would kill for a Roy Thomas-written Invaders/All-Star Squadron crossover. Both teams he created, essentially to serve the same purpose while working at each of the Big-2 publishers.

At this point, I think that is the one inter-company crossover that I would still get super-excited about. But they'd both have to be the real teams, not some messed up current reboot continuity version. And Joe Kubert on art would be ideal, imo. Ordway would work great, too, of course. Actually, I'd probably prefer Frank Robbins over either of them on this particular project, but he's passed on. But Robbins had a perfect art style for WW2 material.

 

Yes! I'd love that, Jerry Ordway would be perfect. I loved how he handled All Star Squadron back in the 80s! I think someone like John Byrne or Dave Gibbons would also be able handle a project like that.

 

Just to clarify, there were two Spider-man/Batman crossovers.

Spider-man and Batman (1995) with Joker and Carnage
Batman & Spider-man (1997) with Kingpin and Ra's Al Ghul

 

I surprise that no one ever held of this DC/Marvel Crossover book.

 

Oh that was a fun one but bizarre if you ask me.

I remembered when i was 10 when i bought and read the trade-paperback of "DC/Marvel Crossover Classics" after i was thrilled by the Superman/Spider-Man crossovers i was like "Batman vs. The Incredible Hulk? such a dumb idea if you ask me, what is Batman gonna do to Hulk? punch him in the nose?" LOL but i wasn't laughing anymore as it turned out to be a good story and great art too.

 

That's true, it was a pretty strange crossover. The only thing I can think of as to why they put that together was because of Batman and Hulk's then prominence on TV shows. The art by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez was excellent though.

 

There were two Batman/ Punishers awhile back. The Azbats version was kind of interesting.

 

It's really dated though, nothing screams the 90s like huge armor, claws and pockets on your thighs  

 

I loved in that Hulk/Batman crossover, you had Batman actually trying to beat up the Hulk... Like with fists...

 

Only in the 70s!   Modern Batman would have come up with 100 ways to take him down, and 5 of them would take down the Hulk with minimum contact, and 3 of them would kill  

 

AH back when comics were fun, and the world wasn't ending every month.
