MARVEL NOW! The Marvel Relaunch Gets A Name | Bleeding Cool Comic Book, Movies and TV News and Rumors

Bleeding Cool has been running a number of stories, detailing rumoured relaunch titles, such as Wolverine by Frank Cho, Uncanny Avengers by Remender and Opena, Hickman and Ribic on Avengers, Nova with Ed McGuinness, Fraction and Larocca on Fantastic Four, Gillen and Land on Iron Man, John Romita Jr and Rick Remender on Captain America, Bendis and Immonen on X-Men… and more but so far all they are, are rumours.

I understand that we may get confirmation, and plenty of details, later this week. But Marvel “now” aren’t saying a thing…

However, I do know that this is a relaunch and not a reboot. No continuity will be reset, it will still be the Marvel Universe continuing stories. Just that lots of titles will now have a lovely fresh #1s, some will have new names, some will be cancelled and characters will have new designs, motivations, story arcs and raison d’etre.

Though it does give rise to speculation. Will the 616 Universe now be referred to as The Now Universe? Could the books be The Now 52? And will there be room for Marvel comics set in the past – or the future -if it’s all about the NOW?

Looks interesting. Though I'm wary of the titles by Bendis, particularly the X-Men one which supposedly involves
the original X-Men time travelling to the present and seeing all the changes that have happened since their time.
Just full of opportunities for talking heads and decompressed storytelling.

I think the Relaunch seems perfect.

Interesting... Personally I don't see the point of all this if it's not a reboot, but I am intrigued.

This can't end well. The only good thing I hear are the creative teams.

Marvel has always shown the ability to do great relaunches that don't need to be reboots i.e. Heroes Return, the 90s era X-Men relaunch, and the Marvel Knights relaunches.

Some early book info here: Marvel's Relaunch Takes Shape - Comic Book Resources

Uncanny Avengers looks like it could be really fun and I've heard a lot of good things about Hickman so I'm down for him on Avengers. I may give the Bendis X-Men a shot, but if it's just a bunch of X-Men sitting around a table eating breakfast and talking in Buffyspeak then I'm out (although I will admit the concept does sound pretty cool - especially for Cyclops, who's changed a whole lot in the last ten years).

Wait wasn't there already a story dealing with the original x-men traveling to the future a year or two ago?

Not that I can remember, no. I don't read all of the X-Men titles, though, so maybe they did something like that in Astonishing or X-Force.

There was? I don't recall. Don't think so :p  However, given Bendis' recycling tendencies, I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm really glad he's off the Avengers books. Hearing about Hickman's plans for it, man, it's a far cry from Bendis street level Avengers.

Wasn't that just a story told in flashbacks? That's how I remember it. Then again, I did just skim thru it :D  The X-books have been unreadable for a long time.

Some of those creative teams have me scratching my head. I feel people's pain with Bendis on X-Men. Nowadays I like his dialog, that's about it.

Greg Land on Iron Man? Why? Because he has movies he can trace his pencils off of now?

Frank Cho's Wolverine? Dude's awesome, but Wolverine doesn't really seem like his forte. Unless he's gonna spend all of his time with Shanna in the Savage Land hunting T-Rexes. Though honestly...that would be pretty sweet.

In fairness to Marvel, it's at least an attempt to hook up fans of the upcoming show with an actual 616 continuity comic of the same name. It's not a dumbed down TV tie in book, especially with Jeff Parker there.

Also updated, it seems Rick Remender will be doing Uncanny Avengers with John Cassaday, Jerome Opena will be doing Jonathan Hickman's Avengers book. I am looking forward to this. I really miss the heavy hitter big time Avengers squad.

Cap looks weird in the pic. Maybe Rogers isn't Captain America again? I almost get a Hawkeye feel from the mask. Maybe its just me....

Technically, DC said their New 52 wasn't a reboot, either, and yet, a lot of their continuity is either tossed out out rendered void by connecting events.

Still, I'm a DC guy, so I didn't need the New 52 to follow that universe, but this might be a good time for me to pick up a Marvel book or two.
