There's too much volume of discussion going back months (was looking for Ragnarok discussion) but there's dozens of people who consider Aaron's work on Thor to be nothing but damaging. There are, of course, the people who refuse to refer to her as anything other than Jane, the people who personally attack Aaron, it goes on. But it's a comic forum, so it's proportionate to our little community here, times 100.

Mustn’t be too damaging, the comic seems to be doing well enough.

Jane sold in the top 20 almost every month.

A few excerpts, names and faces to protect the innocent and all that.

"Hahaha oh man.. this is so bad it's comical. His dislike and negative feelings toward Thor Odinson and the mythos is so clear and obvious. It has been since GoT. In my oppinion. Aaron isn't even worthy of watching Thor in the cartoons, let alone writing his comic. It is a sad, sad day when Avengers Assemble handled the passing over of the hammer better than an "award winning" writer."

"Easily the most absurd arc I have ever read in Thor. Just unbelievably bad."

"Sure it is. They can’t seem to understand most of us have been reading his story for decades and holes in the story and characters written like a complete different character gets constant complaints at comic shops across the U.S."

^This person goes on to compare Thor in this story to Spider-Man in One More Day.

"Poor Thor, a character with a rich cast and over 50 year mythology shat upon for the atheist version of a Jack Chick tract."

This was all in like three pages.

Well it seems a lot of people disagree. Boy, is there no room for constructive criticism anymore?

What were the sales for the new comic?

While we're on the subject of Thor, Aaron has confirmed that this will be the last relaunching of Thor under his pen. It's expected his run will culminate next year with "The War of Realms," which Gates of Valhalla implies will be an event comic in which Malekith invades Midgard. But Aaron's first two acts lasted about 24 issues a piece, so it's possible that the runoff of that event will last for another year.

So this series will be the conclusion to the King Thor saga, alright then.

Which does raise the question, what will come next for Thor?

The most important piece of advice I could ever offer anyone who loves comics is don't ever visit forums like CBR and read what other comics "fans" have to say. Nothing could be more demoralizing and damaging to your love of the art form.

Was CBR the one who essentially cleared and rebooted their forum in an attempt to start fresh? Guess it didn't work out. I know Newsarama got rid of the comments section in their articles because of similar reasons.

Personally, I’m not real thrilled with Aaron on Thor either. And I call her Jane. Thor is his name, not his title. I never understood how you call someone Thor who clearly isn’t Thor. Wielding Mjolnir gives you the power of Thor, not the identity.

In the early Stan/Jack stories, it's not really so clear cut. Kind of like original Captain Marvel. When Don hits his stick on the ground, Thor appears, but Don wasn't Thor. Later, they morphed it so that he kind of was. Then in the '80s, they retconned it so that Don wasn't even an actual person.

And there was an EXTENDED run during the Defalco era, where there was a guy running around AS Thor, with the powers of Thor, being called Thor by fellow Avengers and whatnot... who was not Thor. A lot of major crossovers from that era, when you reread them now, you realize, oh yeah...that wasn't really Thor in this story, either. But he was male, so maybe that's why there wasn't the same level of complaining we see now.

Personally, I liked Jane as Thor. We got some of the best stories Thor has seen in many years, imo. And I say that as a pretty hardcore Thor fan these past 35+ years of reading Thor.

Eric being called Thor didn’t bother me because most people didn’t know he wasn’t. IIRC, only Hercules and Cap knew that Eric wasn’t Thor. He looked like Thor, he presumably sounded like Thor, and he tried (although he often failed) to act like Thor. Also, I believe that Eric didn’t want it to become common knowledge that Thor was missing. So it wasn’t the same situation. And Eric definitely wasn’t presented as being better at the job than the actual Thor.
Also, during the early days, wasn’t Thor’s memory spotty at best? I’ve read stories where he called Odin “Father” and Odin referred to Thor as his son, so there must not have been that much doubt.

Man, I miss Don Blake sometimes, the classic one. I know they really didn't have a reason to keep him along much these days as the long time reason was that he was there because Thor had to learn humility and/or he wanted to live amongst humanity which doesn't apply as well these days.

Honestly? I thought the book was downright terrible at first. The book got better as it went along, but I don't think all of the criticisms aimed at the book are wrong. Some of the sillier criticisms are really hyperbolic, though.

The one thing that I didn't like was the name situation. His name is Thor. It's his name, not his title. Calling him Odinson when he name was Thor was annoyingly dumb. Call Jane Thor, fine; Thor is still Thor, though.
