There were a thread about Nick Roche's art style, so I wanted to know which artist is preferred by fans. My favorite is Casey Coller. In his work, most of TFs has cheekbones, which makes me feel that they have emotion like us but look different from us. Alex Milne is my another favorite, whose work is just handsome! Sometimes it seems TOO handsome, though. (I liked ongoing #16~18 the most, where he worked in Figueroa's style so the TFs looked more robotic than his usual work.)
I respect Nick Roche as artist with his own unique art style, but oh boy how i dislike it. My favorite artists are Don and Guido. Others are okay, but Miln should improve his face drawings - he always has such half-smiles on each page of the comic book.
Guido is the strongest all-around, imo. He has everything. Good characters, good layouts, dynamic, strong storytelling. Everything. Roche follows him and is strong in all areas as well, although his style seems to divide people for whatever reason. For some people, using a slightly cartoony style to draw cartoon characters is a bad thing, I guess. I don't think I've seen any of Coller's interior work, so I can't comment on him. Likewise, I don't remember anything of Griffith's except his inking of Roche, so I can't comment on him, either. I'm sure I must have read some Matere-drawn comics, but I can't think of what or where. Figueroa is kind of hit-or-miss with me. When he's on, I enjoy his stuff. Milne, I am not crazy about, but it usually serves the story well enough that I don't have any real problems with it. My favorite TF comics artist of all-time, while we're on the subject, is Geoff Senior. Roche is beginning to become a contender, though. Guido is right up there, too. I also like Lee Sullivan for having been kind of a low-rent Geoff Senior. He was always my favorite on the UK comic if Senior wasn't around. And although he wasn't listed in the poll, Livio Ramondelli has the potential to become one of my favorites if he can improve his visual storytelling a bit. But I love his illustration style.
Nick Roche is my fave, though I do like E.J. Su, Alex Milne, Guido Guidi, Don Fig, and Andrew Griffith.
Tie Don's g1 -stuff (not the reimagined designs) and EJ's art from the first three "-ation" mini-series are teh best TF art I've seen personally
Milnes disability to draw proper facial expression bugs the hell out me in an otherwise fantastic effort albeit cluttered. Collers draughtmanship is up there with guifo but his comp/layout looks flat at times. Roche is in geoff territory. Ejs great but might put off those that arent into manga style. Don is great but has that i cant draw humans achilles heel.
Aww, no love for my friend Boo? No pat Lee either? (yeah yeah marshmellow style but then there's wfc style sheets too eh?) I went with Don from the choices.
I disagree that he pulls off a manga style, although he borrows a few surface elements. But I read a lot of manga, and... no. Much too flat. The inking isn't there. No kineticism. Pacing isn't there. People, drapery of clothing, perspective, overall layout and flow (although I'm sure part of that comes with working from someone else's script)... just no. People throw around the term "manga" to describe style much too loosely, imo.
Boo has little problem with proportions, but he is okay too. Pat Lee. Well, i think he is decent artist in his way
I used to read the old comic book when I was a kid. I stopped shortly after The Underbase storyline with Starscream killing everyone. None of the artists in the poll I really recognized, so I didn't vote.
Nick Roche is my favorite. E.J. Su, Marcelo Matere and Guido Guidi are also good, though. Alex Milne, I used to not be too fond of, but he's genuinely improved from his Dreamwave days. That, and he was a pretty nice guy when I met him at Botcon 2010 I'm also going to put in a write-in for Andrew Wildman, who was one of, if not THE best, artist for the Marvel Transformers comics. My favorite TF artist of all time is, of course, Derrick Wyatt.
I always loved how Alex Miline is able to pull of an epic manga robot feel and look to the IDW G1 and movie comics! I would LOVE to see him give a try at a Transformers Prime comic one day!
