    With all new costumes apparently.

Newsarama.com : The DC UNIVERSE Reboots in September, New #1s Across the Line

This could have me picking up some new books.

This could also have me dropping a lot books. I already don't like superman's new costume and wonder woman's doesn't look much better than Lee's first attempt.

That's the problem with a reboot you can lose as may readers or more than you gain.

This cannot be a total reboot. There is absolutely no way that they would abandon so much history just for a publicity stunt.

I'm just hoping that Secret Six will come out of this intact...

Please tell me that there's wind blowing and everyone DOESN'T have spiked hair.

I was actually okay with Wondy's jacket design, but these new threads make her look like she's going to Spidey for fashion advice. :/

Yes what the comics industry often fails to understand, is there is a reason classic costumes are classic. A new costume doesn't equal better story telling.

I don't mind costume changes. I mind BAD costume changes. Ms. Marvel shedding her Captain Marvel clone outfit for the lightning bolt was awesome and helped get her out of his shadow. Stephanie Brown's Spoiler-ish Batgirl duds suit her better than Barbara's ever could. But the outfits in this snippet just look lazy. It's Jim Lee being all like "look how many tiny lines and shit I can draw."

Superman's new costume may have more to do with a certain lawsuit than anything else. I think the Segals can legally claim the red underoos.

I'm interested to see how this plays out, but I'm not optimistic for it actually accomplishing anything. I can't see it bringing in new readers since, with the exception of Barack Obama appearances, nothing brings new readers in to monthly comics any more. Assuming it's a complete/significant reboot, it will streamline continuity temporarily but, within a few years the continuity will once again be impenetrable to new readers (ie - the Ultimate universe). The redesigned costumes will stick around for a little while, but then many of the higher-profile characters will go back to their original costumes, either as a marketing event ("Superman's original costume returns in a special holographic foil, polybagged issue guest-starring Barack Obama!') or because the artists go back to drawing them the old way, intentionally or unintentionally. As for the continuity changes, most of those will be gone as soon as it becomes clear this isn't bringing in any new readers and they'll need another Crisis to fix everything again. Assuming the continuity changes don't snap back within a few years, they'll regress over time as the next wave of writers comes in and decides to make the DCU conform to "their" continuity. Also, there's no way that DC is going to walk away from the milestone of Action Comics #1000 (and Detective #1000, to a lesser extent) when they're so close, so the new numbering likely isn't going to stick for all titles either.

Personally, I'm going to give this a chance and see how things look in the new solicits. The only DCU titles I collect (in trades) are the GL books and a few Superman stories here and there, so this isn't going to affect too much that I buy. As a general idea, the statements about the "human aspect" of the characters and "real-world themes and events" makes me wary, since those things don't interest me and aren't why I read comics. This may also be a good spot to drop the GL titles permanently, since I don't relish the idea of sitting through all of the various concepts being reintroduced after Johns just finished introducing some of them and hasn't finished introducing others. The only situation where I'd definitely drop the GL books is if this reboot is taken as the opportunity to remove Guy, John and Kyle...but I don't see that happening, so withholding judgment, for now.

Concerning the costumes, much as I don't like Jim Lee's art, some of the designs are promising and might look better if drawn by Reis, Gleason or Mahnke. Wonder Woman's outfit isn't too bad and I like that they appear to have removed the underwear-outside-the-pants from Superman's outfit. The high collars need to go, though.

I never dug the jacket look on Wonder Woman because I thought it just looked odd, or that she'd raided Black Canary's closet. Or for clarification, there was no 'Wonder' to the costume for me. It didn't stand out or have anything about that was really distinctive about it that made her look like a superhero.

However from the snippet of the 'new costume' I saw in that link, this one goes too far back the other way. For Diana they need to grab a person with some historical background in Ancient Greek arms and armour, and make something from that.

However, I do love me some Justice League, so I might put in an order for a hard copy and figure out if my iPad can read the digital version.

Are there any full pics of both new costumes floating around?

These reboots never last... especially iconic costume changes.

    Nothing to worry about.

I'm guessing it will be more like the Age of Apocalypse or Heroes Reborn than anything. DC cannot seriously think that jettisoning 70+ years of continuity and starting fresh will do anything but drive away the fans in droves. I like the current DCU. I don't want to see Dick Grayson as Robin, Barbara Gordon as Batgirl, or Barry Allen as the Flash (yes, I know, but seriously, bitch should've stayed dead). I want Stephanie Brown as Batgirl. I want Oracle and the Birds of Prey. I want James Robinson's Justice League with its ersatz Big Seven. I really want that JLI book that was teased at the end of Generation Lost and the rumored Blue Beetle volume two.

If, like I suspect, this proves temporary, I can get into it for the fun. If they try to make it permanent, I'm out.

I think it's stupid to throw away 900 issues of Action Comics and nearly 900 of Detective Comics. Fucking stupid.

And all this coming from Flashpoint. Really? Really? It's almost an non-event as it's barely had any build-up within the DC Universe.

The Flash and Green Lantern were the only two comics that I'm still reading. I dropped Marvel a year ago. I'm really tempted to drop my remaining books now as I really don't like that all my GL issues essentially mean nothing.

Everyone reading long-running story arcs from the five years have wasted their money. Brightest Day, it meant nothing. Final Crisis/R.I.P/Return of Bruce Wayne, it meant nothing. War of the Green Lanterns, it meant nothing.

DC fucked up, and I hope they're ready for some backlash.

Edit: I again, if it's an Age of of Apocalypse type of deal, then cool. But isn't Flashpoint already an AoA type of deal. I just don't see DC running two such fake worlds back-to-back. It's 50 new #1 issues. I fear it's a total reboot.

Edit 2: Anyone have a full image of that reboot teaser?

Well I hope the reboot gets rid of the Color corps (doubt it with the upcoming Red Lantern ongoing) and brings back Mogo, Laira and Bzzd. Since I really liked those characters.

I just started reading some of the new DC comics, specifically Brightest Day and the Dick Grayson Batman series.

All for nothing. Well DC, I'll stick with my Deadpool. That's about all I read now anyway, comic-wise.

Ugh, what a terrible idea. I can't believe a title that is at 900 is going back to #1. Especially when you know it'll go back to regular numbering at 1000.

But with everything ending, I can jump off a few titles without feeling like I'll miss something.

Uh no. The color corp are quite possibly the most interesting aspect of GL for a long time. Not only does it bring a neat twist on the hero/villain powerset, but it introduces idealogical differences between the different corp and how they percieve obtaining justice, i.e. through rage, fear, greed, hope, love, and compassion.

After all this build up Geoff Johns is gonna restart GL and GLC. Come on. That's his baby. If he did that's like completely giving up on something that has tremendous promise.

On a personal note, if Flashpoint gets rid of Atrocitus or Dex-Starr, they can kiss my ass. I'll even paint it in the different colors of the corp just for Johns.

I don't read anything Marvel produces. 100% of my comics purchases are DC. One of the reasons I love DC so much is their 70+ year history gives them so much to play with. To just sweep all of that history under the rug in one big "do over" seems like a cop out to me.

What does this do to Crisis On Infinite Earths? The Death and Return of Superman? Knightfall? Green Lantern: Rebirth? The Sinestro Corps War? Blackest Night? Does this mean we get to go back to Lois not being able to see what's right under her nose? Dick Grayson as Robin? And how can you even try to update Superman's costume? It's iconic. It works.

That said, I trust Geoff Johns and I'll see what DC has in store for me. For now.

Well, CBR has the full image:
Comic Book Resources Forums - View Single Post - CBR: DC Announced Post-"Flashpoint Details," Relaunches All Titles

"New" costumes don't really bug me, except for maybe Flash's weird headgear. Otherwise, WW looks similar to the current version, except w/o the jacket. Not sure if Supe's redesign is related to the Siegel and Shuster copyright lawsuit.

Hope they don't reboot everything (including Detective & Action Comics...), though I have faith in Johns' writing, but I guess we'll wait and see...
