Physically, he’s quite a threat. Given his ability to fight Superman and Supergirl at the same time.

But, his creative origins turn a lot of people off it seems(aka made by Bendis). Bendis giving him so much spotlight certainly doesn’t help.

He's a boring one-note cliche. Maybe if you've only started to read Superman within the last 5 minutes, he would seem cool. I dunno. For me, he's the worst part of Bendis' run, most of which I've been okay with. He's so boring that 5 minutes from now, I will have forgotten how to spell or pronounce his name again. Ragon Zool is how I usually remember it.

Which of Bendis' Superman titles would you say is better? Action Comics or Superman? I'm thinking about reading either one...

Really hard to say. As a longtime Superman fan, there are things to like and things to absolutely hate in each. But the combined run as a whole is much stronger if you skip every issue that involves Gorgon Zuul.

So, you're recommending both titles? Interesting... and who is Gorgon Zuul?

I strongly dislike what Bendis has done with the family. I loved Superman, Lois and Jon in Rebirth, and he's really thrown a ton of curve balls into that situation and Clark and Lois's marriage. I've dropped both books at this point largely because of that.

I absolutely expected this was the aspect he would screw up the most. I'm not a bit surprised, and I don't regret dropping the books.
I do regret that DC made it necessary however.

It's funny, right before the NU52 stuff I was reading every Superman title, had been for about a decade. Then I dropped all the books like a sack of potatoes.
The Rebirth happened and I started reading them all again. Then Bendis happened and I've dropped them all again.

I can't wait until he's gone. I hate what he's done with Supes.

On the other hand, His first issue of YJ is downright fantastic. I can't wait to read the second issue.

Should’ve had him open with the Wonder Comics. Then things would be going so much more smoother.

Agreed. It's a shame, his run on Superman has really colored my opinion of him.

From what I’ve gathered he shines when it comes to youth driven stories(Ultimate Spider-Man) and gritty & grounded(Daredevil), But when it comes to larger scale stories or older characters, he tends to screw things up.

Or rather, that’s the impression I’ve come to gather...

The problem is that he's expensive to the point that DC has to put him on one of their top selling characters right away to justify the money (and perks) they are paying him. The Wonder Comics stuff is just a sideline.

It's weird thinking how their marketing campaign in bringing Bendis over was imitating that of when Kirby came to DC. Obviously that was intentional, but was it just a joke or were they really comparing Bendis to Kirby? And did DC forget how the whole Kirby thing didn't work out at all for them?

And things just clicked for me.

And ah yes, they never realized what they had till after the fact. Now all they have curtesy of Kirby is The Fourth World.

    Oh, and Etrigan.

Which are all fantastic creations. But unfortunately ahead of their time. Back then, they didn't sell the way DC was hoping and they had no idea what to do with them. DC thought getting Kirby was a major coup that would let them catch up to Marvel. They thought Kirby would create new super-heroes the equal to all his Marvel creations, but that didn't happen. It wasn't what he was interested in doing anymore anyway. They didn't even let him finish his Fourth World story, made him create a whole new batch of characters (Kamandi, Demon, Sandman, etc.), and they didn't catch on, either. Which is why Kirby went back to Marvel in 1976.

Maybe the same thing will happen to Bendis, too. I don't know how his Superman is selling, but if this Wonder Comics sub-line doesn't take off the way DC hopes, maybe they'll just run out his contract and Bendis will try to go back to Marvel.

I just read YJ issue 2... It was... It was a bit of a mess. It was really disjointed. The panel layouts made the story really hard to follow and the interaction between Zeus and Cassie was downright weird.

It wasn't the worst thing ever, but it wasn't anything great either. I guess I'll wait for issue 3, and it that one is more like this one then I'm going to wash my hands of it.

Good to see the first issue of the new Female Furies mini was just as big a pile of crap as I was expecting.

I was looking forward to Female Furies because I love these characters, and they suck you in with a good artist on the cover, but the interior art is making it unreadable. I've tried 3 times already and can't get past the first few pages, it's so inept. How did this person get hired so many years away from being a professional level artist?

I mean, I have no idea if the story is good. I can't get far enough into the book to tell. For all I know, the writing could be dogshit, too.

    Huge disappointment.

And yeah, Teen Titans #2 was nowhere near as engrossing as the first issue.

Batman... Why am I still buying Batman? This series is about 2 for 64, imo. That's a horrible average.

I read Marv Wolfman's 'Man and Superman'. He writes a forward in which he shares how proud he is of this story. Considers it maybe the best Superman story he's ever written and maybe in the top 5 best comics he's ever written. It's mediocre at best. I can see why DC waited 10 years to publish it. What I'm not sure of is why they eventually gave in and did publish it. Wolfman seems to think he was exploring uncovered ground, but nothing in this was new even 10 years ago when he wrote it. The final 10-15 pages were tough to get through because by that point it was clear there was no saving it.

United States vs Murder Inc actually ended decently, unlike Scarlet, which unraveled completely in its final issue.

Deathstroke continues to be good. Christopher Priest continues to deliver stories that are solid and don't feel like ones I've read already, which puts him ahead of almost everyone else these days. I have never had any interest in Deathstroke as a character (and I've always hated Jericho), but this series is enjoyable anyway.

edit: Holy shit, I just realized the Female Furies artist is the same person who was drawing the Gail Simone Plastic Man series I can't read because the art is so horrible. Well, there you go. How do you hire someone who has almost no grasp of perspective, lazily trying to cheat it in every panel, and zero ability to place figures within a 3-dimensional space?
