I agree. If we're talking Pre-Crisis Superman, you could put him up against anyone, anything, or any combination, and Pre-Crisis Superman would still win.

I'm serious, you could give SSJ Eleventy Billion Fusion Chi Burst Limit GoNoThanks kryptonite brass knuckles and Excalibur and Pre-Crisis Superman would still come out the winner.

But what's up with this thread? Was nerd discussion sent back in time 10 years or what? And for the record, chi manipulation and all that jazz in DBZ is not supernatural or magical, its simply another means of physical attack. Anyone can do it, provided they've been trained, even if they're not human. Its no more magical than a karate chop, just a lot more complex.

 

The whole poll is null and void, since they wouldn't fight each other under normal circumstances. They're both heroes.

I read somewhere this was settled by Akira Toryiama years ago. He said Superman would win. He's a huge fan of the character.

 

If we're talking both of them at the peak of their abilities and with no reservations about fighting each other, then Silver Age Superman would wipe the floor with Super Saiyan 4 Goku. I'm talking curb stomp here. Chi as presented in Dragon Ball is not the least bit magical. It's little more than the ability to manipulate body heat and the electromagnetic spectrum. In fact, truly magical beings are shown to be unusual, even in the extended acid trip that is Goku's world. Simply put, pitting anyone with less-than-omnipotent abilities against Superman is simply unfair, because the writers in the Silver Age didn't know when to quit upping the ante.

I mean, Hell, they had to rewrite the entire universe to make Superman's powers easier to write around. What the fuck does that tell you?

This is something a versus thread can afford to ignore. It doesn't matter why they're fighting. The point is that they're fighting. The only relevant question is how the fight will end.

I think the real problem is all the Superman and DBZ fan boys not willing to discuss what they believe to be obvious.

And really, how can you not know who Goku is???

He's almost as iconic as Superman, in fact he's pretty much the Japanese equivalent of the big blue boyscout.The simularities are very close.

They'r both super powerful aliens who's planets were destroyed and they'r both raised on earth by elderly humans as babies.

They'r both the single biggest guns to be brought out when the shit really hits the fan and they can't really be matched up to anyone in either of they'r universes as far as shear kickassness goes.

Goku's a Japanese icon whilst Superman is an American icon.

Both have shitty movies made about them.

And they'r both gentle lovers of piece despite they'r great power.

 

The degree to which goku's supernatural power trumps others is definetly due to him being a saiyan that said the fighters of DB universe (or at least those from earth) are definitely using spiritual energy(chi/ki)

That kind of thinking goes both ways, as is usually the case in these online nerd slapfights.

 

I don't know who Goku is, and I really don't understand why he's thought to be important enough to bear comparison to Superman. I also don't care. I just want to know why Batman isn't on the poll. Batman always wins.

Exactly what I was thinking. Superman is like a solar Battery. He stores Yellow Sun Energy so being transported to a red sun system would only work after some time has passed and how much energy he uses in a fight which wouldn't be much as Goku would be winded and Superman would do some serious damage to Goku.

 

Yeah, merely teleporting to a planet with a red sun is no guarantee of victory. Superman has been seen to plow his enemy through the red sun itself and still survive. Granted, he was nearly dead by the time he crashed on a nearby planet. Then again, so was his opponent. And that was just modern Superman, who can barely hold a candle to his Silver Age version. Barring the use of Kryptonite (which would invalidate the win because Goku wouldn't have really beaten Supes at his best), Superman wins. No questions. Ever.
