In comics, we're always telling stories about people in life-threatening situations. That's thrilling in a comic book, but in real life it's the scariest ordeal you can imagine. Right now Gordon Lee, a retailer in Rome, GA, is facing the fight of his life. This August he will finally stand trial against two counts of distributing harmful to minors materials. He faces penalties of up to a year in prison and fines of up to $1,000 on each count if convicted. Gordon has been fighting to prove his innocence for almost three years. Fighting through being overcharged with two felonies and five misdemeanors, most of which were later thrown out. Fighting though the prosecution throwing out and refiling their case because the day before the trial they discovered that their facts were wrong. And now fighting against two remaining charges that are completely meritless. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has taken up the fight for Gordon, and now we need to help them finish that that fight.

Right now, I'm asking you to join me in supporting the CBLDF's work on this case. To date they've spent nearly $80,000 defending Gordon, and they expect the trial to cost another $20,000 on top of that. To ensure that they have the cash on hand for Gordon's August trial, and to shore up their reserves for what could be a very litigious Presidential election year, they need our donations now.

Please join me in supporting the Fund by making a donation of cash, original art, high-grade comics, or even some of your time (like I did in 2003 when I did a signing at Defender of Liberty recipient Chuck Rozanski's Mile High Comics as part of a CBLDF benefit auction). It's up to those of us who rely on comics for our living to stand behind the Fund in protecting our own. The Fund needs all of our support to win this case, where a conviction won't just harm Gordon, but its precedent could affect all of our livelihoods.
What this is all about ? Who is Gordon Lee ? His brother ?

Just some retailer the CBLDF is helping. Apparently the guy sold a comic with nudity in it to a 9 yr old kid. Nothing adult oriented but still risque. Here's the best article I can find that's just not "Make a donation"

It's certainly seems to be an interesting story, but it'd sure be nice to actually read the other side of it, or at least read this side from someone who doesn't seem so emotionally tied to it.

It does sound like a simple misunderstanding, but without reading both sides of this, I can't really form an opinion about it. I certainly wouldn't donate any money until I knew more.

Anyway, my two cents.

And now, back to forming opinions about toys and cartoons

Have fun, gang!!!

See the collection/photoshoot at Dave's Pages!!!

I like how the article said the comic had "tasteful, non-sexual nudity" but the first thing on the link was the tastefully, non-sexually nude woman talking about masturbating.

WTF is a 9-year old doing in a comics store? If he's looking for Little Johnny DC, they sell those in the grovery store. Otherwise ... his parents should be watching their kid better.

Yes. All the depravities of the local comic shop. Little Billy should never be open to people behind a counter selling goods and services in the form of paper. Lets us Pray little Billy never make sit to a Chapters, Indigo or some other larger bookstore where the mind truly becomes defiled.

I'd love to be behind this cause but my hate for Jim Lee is starting to become of Pat Lee epic proportion. I. Want. Wilds. Cats. #2.

I donated to this a few years ago. Heaven forbid that kids see a cartoon drawing of boobies. He should see his first pair of boobs the proper way...through holes in the girl's locker room ceiling.

Michael Bay may not have raped my childhood, but I think he may have molested it.

Reading the thread title, I thought this would be some explanation to the incredible delays with any issue he draws these days. I've been anxiously awaiting Wildcats #2 as well. I don't even know that I'd remember what happened in the first issue at this point.
