“I’m....I’m alive?”
That shouldn’t have been possible. He was stabbed, quite literally in the back, and fell.
From 20 stories up. Onto a taxi cab.
“And I think I melted....”
He couldn’t remember anything else after that. He just knew he woke up naked and in a
basement. The quest for clothing allowed him to learn that he was in the building he had fallen
from. A newspaper told him the date. He’d been out for a few years apparently.
“And Pete’s an Avenger. Sure, we’ll go with that. What the hell else have I missed?”
His hand reached around and rubbed his back. He could still feel it. The metal spikes
impaling him, ripping through his flesh and bone. It’d hurt like a bitch, but he’d do it again.
Without hesitation.
“But what now? Do I go see them..?”
Another phantom pain, this one a sting across his cheek. It told him that may not be the
best course of action. But what other choice did he have?
Quietly, he opened a window, and finding the coast to be clear, he began scaling the wall,
soon coming to the roof. Looking over the city, he tried to gather his thoughts.
“I’m back. It’s been a while but I’m back. No idea how or why, or what’s even been
going on since I....left. I want to go back, see Pete and MJ again, but can I? I mean, it’s the
natural response, I want to go home, but that was never really home, was it? Never really life.
The world doesn’t need two Peter Parkers....”
He then leapt from that building to the next. Flipping and bouncing off the walls, he made
his way across the skyline of Manhattan.
“But maybe it has room for a Ben Reilly.”
