Batman: The Animated Series & TMNT Crossover From IDW & DC Entertainment - - Action Figures Toys News ToyNewsI.com
The poster looks cool. Kinda weird though that they would pick a past version of Batman, but the current (Nickelodeon) version of TMNT.
I really enjoyed the first Batman/TMNT crossover, and I'm a fan of both Batman TAS and Nick's TMNT series, so I'll definitely be picking up the Batman TMNT Adventures. I'm also definitely not going to miss the first issue this time, as I'll definitely be adding it to my pull list.
I would've gone with the 2003 animated TMNT in that case. The shows had a similar angular style for a lot of the important characters, and some of the TMNT'03 background characters were done in the same WB "house style" that was used for background characters in Batman: TAS. I guess the conversion from 3D to 2D allows the artists some creative freedom to make it match the TAS style, but TMNT 2k3 is mostly there already. It's nothing against the 2012 turtles though. They'd be perfect to cross over with Beware the Batman.
Due to the nature of the 4Kids Turtles and what the rights situation is like IDW may not have had any chance of actually using them. I mean we haven't gotten any complete series Box sets out of Nikelodeon at the moment concerning said series, which I'd love to see as most of the season sets are long out of print and 4Kids never bothered with full sets for Seasons 3 & 6, possibly 5 too, but I can't recall. Might have to look into this, I'm always interested in good crossovers and BtAS is a huge favorite of mine.
Mixing Timm's Batman and 2012 TMNT? This sounds rather risky IMO but I enjoyed the previous Batman-TMNT crossover so I'll give it a try.
My understanding (which could be wrong) was that Viacom owned all TMNT IP now, but that existing licenses (and things like co-ownership of footage or music) were still in effect. The 2003 designs were done in-house at Mirage, they obviously don't need to use any footage or music, so there shouldn't really be any conflict that I'm aware of. It's more likely that Nick/Viacom wants IDW to promote the current show. Edit: The 2003 series comics were licensed to DreamWave, so maybe that's it?
I don't see why this pairing is all that odd -- these two animated series are arguably the best animated versions of these characters/franchises.
Basically. Plus it's part of TMNT adventures, so why wouldn't they use the TMNT adventures turtles. High hopes, just don't want to go through another 3 issue meet and greet
