    Sweeeet!!!

Hopefully Hasbro won't try to make a movie out of it.

    Well, this is M.A.S.K.

More simple continuity, and less mythos, so Easton miiight just not fail at it.

Bonus points, hopefully it will keep him busy enough to not touch anything Transformers.

Revving Up Hasbro's "MASK" For a Modern Comic Audience | Comic Book Resources

"I love the idea of a show that combined all the elements of popular action adventure animation of the '80s. Vehicles with alternative modes, military action, sci-fi and superheroes with advanced technology -- it was a very unique mix that hasn't been fully realized as a concept. The Thunderhawk, Switchblade and Condor are ridiculously cool and still resonate with me as a former toy collector."

"our version of the team will have to prove they deserve to pilot these sophisticated machines on what could be described as suicide missions. Many of the characters will have dark and/or complicated pasts -- the M.A.S.K. team might be their final shot at redemption, or at least a steady paycheck. Everyone will have a different reason for being there, but soon they'll cross an intense threshold and -- to steal a cliché -- their lives will never be the same again."

"Our V.E.N.O.M. is not a team of bumbling crooks with cool weapons; these people are serious, and they won't back down from a fight with anyone. This team is going to be made up of highly efficient terrorists who strike a tight balance between killer instincts, military precision, technological savvy and sociopath tendencies."

"The '80s versions of the masks were cool for the time, but everything resembles the early Apple Mac computers. Those things were blocky and unwieldy. I wanted the modern versions to be streamlined, like our smartphones and tablets. Some will include holographic elements. I see these masks as weaponized Google glasses."

Sounds pretty cool. If it's a success, it could become a film adaptation.

Is it like a prerequisite of modern reboots to have to turn heroic characters into people with dark and/or complicated pasts?

OMG be still my beating heart! I've very, VERY literally been dreaming of a M.A.S.K. revival since 1990. Those dreams where it all comes together, you get the new toys you always wanted... and then you wake up all happy... and then you realize it was all just a dream.

I seriously can't believe M.A.S.K. is seriously being revived. Can't wait to see what Easton and Vargas will do with it, but from what I've read, I think they're going the right way. November just can't get here soon enough. More excited about this than any new Takara Masterpiece.

It's almost never good when they announce the intention to go grimdark. But as yet, it sounds like they are trying to strike a balance - there will be tortured souls, folks with secrets, and straight up heroes and good people wanting to make a difference. But time will tell.

In the case of M.A.S.K. I'll definitely take what I can get. The original cartoons weren't great as far as (back)stories were concerned, and the (UK) comic was slightly better (especially the art work, which was excellent), but certainly not great when it came to providing back stories.

I'm for sure going to check out the first arc.
That's what I'm doing with Micronauts and ROM as well.

I think it makes the characters more interesting and real.

So, they've given an ongoing to the writer that wrote that terrible "Transformers: Deviations" story?

First they give Mairghread Scott an ongoing, and now this guy? I really wish IDW would stop giving jobs to shitty writers.

    Hmmm, interesting.
I have absolutely no problem with Matt Trakker being African-American, one of the strengths of the series is the collaboration between MASK members from different races, countries, and cultures. I just think it's funny they made that decision when the MASK team already has an African-American member in Hondo Maclean, who was fairly prevalent in the toon series.

I like the designs so far. I have my fingers crossed this will turn out to be good.
