THE DARK CRYSTAL: CREATION MYTHS VOLUME 3 HC

    Publisher:
    BOOM! Studios
    Writers: Matthew Dow Smith
    Pencils: Alex Sheikman, Lizzy John
    Covers: Brian Froud
    Letters: Deron Bennett

What’s to Love: It’s been a surreal experience to be able to tell an original prequel story set in The Dark Crystal universe with the full collaboration of The Jim Henson Company. The film stands as an iconic fantasy story and we’re excited to be contributing to its legacy. We’re pinching ourselves because the best part has been being able to work with legendary conceptual designer Brian Froud!

What It Is: Presenting the stunning conclusion of the official prequel to the original The Dark Crystal movie. Following the events of the Great Conjunction, the once-powerful Urskeks have been split into two separate beings: the Skeksis and the Mystics. As the aftermath of the Great Conjunction wreaks havoc upon the Gelfling tribes, the Gelfling may have no choice but to rely upon the one race offering aid: the Skeksis. This volume features behind-the-scenes photos and concept sketches from The Jim Henson Company Archives documenting how creature and puppet designs that never made it into the film were adapted and brought to life on the comic page.

    ROWANS RUIN #1 (of 4)

    Publisher:
    BOOM! Studios
    Writers: Mike Carey
    Pencils: Mike Perkins
Covers: Mike Perkins, Felipe Smith, Andre de Freitas
    Colorists: Andy Troy
    Letters: Jim Campbell

    Part 1 of 4
What’s to Love: The team of Mike Carey (Suicide Risk, The Unwritten) and Mike Perkins (Deathlok) come together for the first time since 2005’s Spellbinders for a taut horror thriller set in their native England. If you’re a fan of horror films like Insidious and The Conjuring, or comics like Curse and Nailbiter, you’ll love how Rowans Ruin unfolds as it slowly clues you in on the terrifying secret that is at the heart of the story.

What It’s About: Katie has always had things pretty easy, growing up in comfortable circumstances in Florida. But when she finds herself with a long summer break before grad school, she decides to do a house-swap with a British girl, Emily, as a way to vacation relatively cheaply—and to get out from under her parents’ attentiveness. England is great, so different from Florida, and the house, called Rowans Rise, is charming. But soon she starts having nightmares—really, really, strong ones. Curious, Katie researches the owners of the house, and discovers it may have more of a sinister history than she thought...
