I agree with everything GoLion said, though I admittedly never read All Star Batman and Robin (Nor really want to) I hope this can turn out fine, and if it doesn't... no real loss.

First thing that popped into my mind. A shame I dislike Linkara.

Not if you're a filthy peasant.

I couldn't care less. The mindset of Miller being an awful man was drilled into my head and having to read Year One for my graphic novel course irked me. This mindset made me standout so much in that one class. I've come to the conclusion that Miller's "good" work bores me however I really liked the animated adaption of the Dark Knight Returns.

I don't care if it succeeds or if it bombs, I know that it doesn't apply to me and that DC is probably shooting themselves in the foot.

Why did DC let him back in?

Anyway, I'm kinda looking forward to this. I forsee a hilariously Millery story, and his work besides DKR makes me laugh at how bad it is.

I knew he was married, but Batman just couldn't deal with him anymore, and left him.

Nice cover, though I'm more interested in the interior artwork. Also, while I appreciate issue #1 coming out on my birthday, I'm most likely just going to get the collectors editions of all eight issues.

Cover doesn't feel like the same art style at all... Batman looks more like the current version than the roided out old man.

Not really promising that the cover is more "REMEMBER THE FIRST STORY? REMEMBER THIS? THIS WAS GREAT!"

But none of this is promising anyways. It can't be worse than Dark Knight Strikes Again... right?

I hated Dark Knight Strikes Again during the first reading. Now, I only hate the coloring. I don't think it works as a sequel to DKR at all (never mind Year One) -- too many story and character inconsistencies -- but then, neither do I think All-Star works as a DKR prequel (never mind as a sequel to Year One). Hell, from today's perspective, I don't even think Year One and DKR work together anymore. And the DKSA Dick Grayson subplot does not work for me at all, never mind the nonsensicality of him shape changing into Legion of Super-Heroes characters from the future. But overall, I love DKSA now. It's ridiculous.

And as far as the Snyder thing goes: GOOD. Azzarello is a MUCH better fit, imo.

They should've never written a sequel to TDKR.

I'm pretty sure Frank Miller agreed. I also kind of think that's why after he finally buckled under 20 years of constant pressure from DC to do one, he made something that flew in the face of anyone's and everyone's hopes and expectations.

I'm convinced that is the case personally. DK2 is clearly his reaction and pushback to its contemporary state of superhero comics just like DKR was, a state that came about because everybody learnt all the wrong lessons from the first one and just replaced the old stale creative straitjacket with a new stale creative straitjacket.

Luthor and Braniac are Marvel and DC holding the creative potential of its characters prisoner in the form of Kandor, Superman is the creators and editors that do their bidding to perpetuate the status quo, Jimmy Olson is the whining fan that complains about everything but carries on buying anyway, Dick Grayson Joker if the often nonsensical ways in which characters are treated for the sake of shock and faux change, Batman is Miller saying that the system should be smashed and fuck everybody who doesn't agree.

ASBAR is Miller just outright trolling because he's realised that its not worth trying to change things anymore because the majority of people involved don't want them to regardless of how terrible they are. If people will buy any old shit with the right names on the cover, why not just have fun and take the piss out of them whilst they cry about it and keep handing over their money? I'm sure Jim Lee was totally in on the joke as well, but nobody wants to say bad things about that dude because they like his pictures.

so what's his excuse for his blogs, interviews, articles, Spawn/Batman and Holy Terror?

Not to mention some of the atrocious art over recent years (no Frank, you're not forgiven for your Jurassic Park cover.)

I'm not a fan of the ORIGINAL Dark Knight Returns. I like the first half well enough, think the second is a thrit experience that wastes some paper and the book is not so important in its quality as its historic significance in the progression of what the character and medium could produce (Arkham Asylum, same thing actually. Great art, progressive in its tone. I think very little of the actual writing. Watchmen, high concept not the beeeest execution but again hugely historically important.) And Miller's work this last decade has been terrible. This may all be one amazing con...but all that means is that he's writing bad books on purpose. They're still very bad books. So...noooo to picking this up...nooooo. also assuming the Joker might make this a prequel.

He's also a grumpy old dude with obnoxious political views that gets paid for doing whatever he wants and probably doesn't give much of a shit anymore whether anyone actually likes it.

Snyder reveals that the reason he left Dark Knight III was because Azzarello and Miller made a great team and he felt like he would just get in the way:

Scott Snyder Reveals Why He Isn't Co-Writing The Dark Knight III: The Master Race - IGN

He praises the story but honestly, that could just be DC asking him to hype it up in interviews since they know he will get asked about it. I've seen writers and artists shill total crap before.

Wait, this IS NOT some sort of insane April fools joke?

Also, I just pretend Dark Knight 2, All star Batman and Holy Terror never happened... And the world is a better place.
