He is the greatest super hero of them all.

One day, he'll be the next Captain America while wielding the power of Thor.... just you watch!...

I know this is plagiarism, but with great brand recognition comes with great profitability.

My cheque better be in the mail.

This is unsurprising, given Spider-Man has had one television show or another on tv without much space in between for 50 years, on top of almost as many movies as Superman and Batman, just as many ongoing comic books, tons of video games, nearly countless merchandising tie-ins. Spider-man has been one of THE global superheroes for decades.

I guess I'm a little surprised at the difference, I would have figured Superman and Batman would have been closer.

Looking at just the US and Canada, Batman isn't that far behind Spider-Man. For some reason though, it looks like Spider-Man is insanely popular outside of North America. Not sure why that would be.

Well, there have been international interpretations of the character over the years (Japan being a great example), and Spider-Man was sort of Marvel's flagship character for years and years and years. Maybe the fact he wore a mask made him easier to market than the open-faced, Caucasian heroes? Maybe the 60s series was syndicated and localized in tons of markets, and that's led to massive international recognition for the character.

Surprising that he outpaces Batman, but not all THAT surprising when you think about it; most non-comics versions of the character tend to favor portraying him as a teenager - thus not that many years older than the target audience in most cases.

That's rather nice actually, Spider-Man is the nicest guy on Marvel aside from Steve Rogers. I do think that the fact that he has a mask is a big factor: anyone can be Spider-Man, or Spider-Woman.
