COMICS: The Classic Blue Costumes Return In First Look At FANTASTIC FOUR #13
No, Thor, don't kill them, please!

Asked if he felt bringing an end to the series was being done to harm the Marvel properties owned by Fox, Gianopulos responded, "No, I don’t think so. I don’t know how that decision came about. The comic was not a huge seller. The Fantastic Four is a very established group of characters, and the film is awesome. Yeah, I think…I don’t know how that played into their decision, but it wasn’t… the book wasn’t selling as well as others."

He also points out that it doesn't really matter from their perspective, something Horn reiterated. "Fully independent decision, by the way, I didn’t even know about it. I mean, honestly, we don’t even [shrugs his shoulders]." Of course, before you think this debunks those rumours, bear in mind that the decision apparently came from Marvel Comics CEO Ike Perlmutter who sounds like an interesting character to say the least...

    Goddamnit.

Not really concerned. They'll be back. And hopefully the hiatus will bring some freshness back to the book when it does return.

Or . . . if the Fantastic Four really does retire from Marvel's stable of superhero books, well it's had a good run.

I don't see how cancelling the book is supposed to hurt the movie anyway. It's well documented, that despite the rash of Marvel movies doing well, comic book readership hasn't exactly spiked as one might expect.

I'm siding with Marvel here. I don't want Fox making FF or X-Men movies anymore. I know they helped Marvel at a critical juncture but they've churned out crappy, boring movies for the most part. I hated both previous FF movies and doubt I'll like this new one.

X-Men works better in their own universe but on FF agreed.

Doom in the MCU would be grand.

Doom would be a good Avengers villain for a film.

A good Doom would quickly become just as popular as Loki.

What are you talking about, Dr. Doom (or at least his comic incarnation) is popular as hell.

Not as much as you'd think. Loki is popular as heck with fangirls, Doom not so much. Why do you think Loki has an ongoing and Doom doesn't?

Agreed. Fox has never been able to take what was great about Doom in the comics and put it on to the screen. The guy should be as scary as Darth Vader, as smart as Reed, and as manipulative and cunning as Loki, with a little bit of nobility thrown in.

A good Doom would take some serious planning. I'd love for him to be slowly developed over two films as the ultimate threat to complete a trilogy. Maybe have Mole man for the first film and Annihilus & the Negative zone for the second.

Agree that he would take some serious planning. Personally though, I'd love to see him get revealed early on, suffer a setback but not a defeat, and then having the FF actually need him to take on a cosmic threat, a little bit how they wrote him in the Future Foundation.
