I Think the movie should go Heavy Metal with music from Megadeth, They can write good lyrics and know how to create great instrumental tracks.:rock

Orchestral, although I can imagine a lot of techno type stuff might make it in there, or maybe some rock. Then again, we're pretty likely to end up with top 40 shit, rap songs, and lame pop-rock.

Techno, trance, dance, pop, hip hop, rap

The "ethnic-drums-meets-symphony" style of symphonic music that's been showing up in movies recently would, in my opinion, match the Transformers movie really well. If somebody like Bear McCreary (current Battlestar Galactica TV series) or Don Davis (the orchestral parts of The Matrix films, various Bond films) did the soundtrack, I think they'd be able to hit the right mix of powerhouse main themes and boom-thumping techno for both good and bad guys.

Industrial techno. No cheesy rock, no nu-metal crap, and NO BLOODY METALLICA. They haven't done anything any good in years.

100 % Agreed. Some japanese drums added to the mix.
(I just hope they donīt make any Transformers Theme -Reggaeton mix for us the latin crowd)

Industrial, electronic music has always seemed to fit Transformers for me because the ARE electronic. I said this in the "what bands" thread but I'd like Wumpscut.

Exactly my thoughts :o
Anyway, I hope for an orchestral/electronic original score. I really hope they don't include a bunch of mainstream bands, though I know that more than likely it's going to happen.

Vanilla Ice, a la TMNT 2.
If he is not available, make it ambiguous. Classical / rock. Not Will Smith/Nelly what ever.
A big mistake that is in current films is the commercialization of every aspect. The songs should be part of the movie, not overshadow it.

I agree that it's lame to commercialize so much, but it's pretty much inevitable, especially with a big money blockbuster family friendly action-epic film, which Transformers is aiming to be. Expect to see Autobot logos all over every other item in Wal-Mart next year by spring time, and lame asss music videos on MTV of Nickelback playing a concert inside Optimus Prime's chest or what the hell ever.

A symphonic orchestra score or maybe industrial/techno would fit nicely for this movie.

Orchestral/Techno with guitars for good measure. Take The Matrix for example. "Clubbed To Death" would sooo work in this film.

Symphonic/orchasta type of music should be used in the movie.
I'd like to see one of these composers do it:
John Williams, Harry-Gregson Williams, Danny Elfman, Klaus Badelt, Don Davis, or Alan Silvestri.

They need to get Trent Reznor to put it together....
They need to use a ton of Industrial Music! People like NIN, KMFMDM, ORGY!
Rock TOOL, Lacuna Coil, Velvet Revolver!
Old School Robotic Hip Hop/Dance. "Its Automatic"

PUNK ROCK
Ok not likely....
Orchestral and/or Industrial would work well.

Anything but Rap, Hip Hop, Pop, Folk, Country, "Punk", etc...

I'd like to see something grand and orchestral, but at the same time mechanical and maybe a little more techno. No bands, nothing that will sound too jarring. Just something that will fit the mood of the different scenes and sound suitably grand.

SO agreed. Rob Dougan would be an awesome choice. Get him together with Trent Reznor, Marylin Manson (who did an outstanding job on Resident Evil), Jack Dangers, and listen to the magic.

I laughed into my coffee when I first read that, but I wouldn't be against hearing 'Autobot/Decepticon Battle' somewhere along the way... :D
My personal vote would be for John Williams with a majestic, sweeping score full of leitmotif, or Danny Elfman in a Batman stylee. :rock

I don't think the music has to be limited to one genre or type of music the entire movie. There were a variety of TFs in the movie with a variety of personalities. Maybe have a short 30 second clip of a country song when introducing Ironhide, a 30 second clip of Techno when introducing Jazz, etc.
Seeing as this is an action movie though, a lot of slow songs wouldn't fit. Especially for the action scenes, they need some fast, heart pumping songs. Personally, I'd prefer techno, trance, hip/hop, rap, or punk rock. Some Linkin Park songs on the Soundtrack would kick ass as would some Paul Oakenfold. Maybe throw in N.E.R.D. too. Their song "Rockstar" in the preview for the Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift was excellent. It really got your heart going and into the action scenes.
Oh, and there are a TON, and I can't understate that, of rappers and hip/hop guys who grew up with the TFs. I imagine Will Smith remembered them and it'd be awesome if he did a song on them. Ice Cube already has a song on Transformers (I think) as does Warren G. I am SURE those guys would love to do a new TF song for the movie.
However, for the background music, I'd prefer it to be orchestral. Allegro for the uplifting scenes, adagio for the sad scenes. It'd be nice if they gave a robotic tinge to the instruments too. That'd be a nice touch.

Not sure how many times I've posted this by now, but I'll post it again. I really want NO trace of rock, pop, metal, rap, country, techno, trance, etc. in this movie whatsoever (despite my love of rock). Orchestral is the only genre that I feel would give this movie the mood it needs.
John Williams would be my number one choice for this film, as he's really got a knack for setting a great mood, and giving movies their own special "theme" (Star Wars, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, etc.).
That being said, I know full well that there will most likely be a bunch of what I don't want in the film, and I guess I'll just have to get used to it. However, if I see a soundtrack consisiting entirely of a bunch of corny band songs (especially if it's rap, punk, death rock, or nu-metal), I will definitely be skipping this movie. Yes, I feel that strongly.

No hip hop or Crap music unless Jazz or Blaster shows up, those two I can see blaring it and we get a classic bit of Prime bitching and telling them to that shit off.
Hopefully for instrumental/rock/heavymetal type tunes, it was what made the original so enjoyable if ask me so should get the clue on music.
Yeah if I hear 3 words (that I hear in just about every other damn rap crap song) said in a second I am getting up and walking out. I would say what those words are but one is disrespect, I won't drop an f bomb, and the other I don't want to come off being racist.

I think they should just use orchestral. They really don't need to try to update the mood of Transformers with techno beats in the background. It's really not something that needs to be tampered with. Plus it would be cool to have some orchestral work that would be a throwback to the series. I hope the composer and Michael Bay decide to go that route. I think when they just blare nu-metal songs during action scenes, it just comes off as tacky and lazy on the filmmakers' behalf. It only works on rare occasions.

well as long as aerosmith and nickelback dont pop up on the soundtrack, i'll buy it but a rendition of the lion theme song from 86 should pop in there

OK, after listening to The Island by Steve Jablonsky he would be a good choice for composing the score for the movie. I certainly would not object, but my number one choice is of course Danny Elfman.
Just no DietCola in this movie. I can't say that enough.

There is more marketing opertunities if they use popular bands today. However, this movie has a huge budget. I expect it to be mostly orchestral like Independence Day.
Whatever it is, I don't really care. The movie is gonna be mostly visual.
AND HOW CAN YOU TOP THE ORIGINAL 1986 FILM'S SOUNDTRACK??? C'MON!!!

The original soundtrack has its merits, but the use of 80's rock songs date it a little. That's where the problem lies. I personally love the soundtrack, but it would seem out of place today.
