View Full Version : the movie is going to suck

Maybe i speak too harsh but i live in LA and i'm sick of the same shit with a different title every time. I'm sure we'll have great special effects. After all, that's what we all want (aside from real robots). I feel we're going to be "distracted" by other stuff. We already have two "hawt" chicks that will probably serve no purpose other than to take up time and screen space (if that's possible for twigs). I call them bells and whistles.

Eh... it's a hollywood flick... it was bound to have anorexic females in it. Either way, I think it's still way too early for us to say if the movie will suck or not.

This topic is probably going to be met with some harsh replies, I'm thinkin'. Personally, I think I have to agree. I'm also tired of the same cookie-cutter formula for action movies these days. Granted, I really shouldn't be expecting a super-deep, ultra-well-written tour-de-force about transforming robots, but I was kinda hoping the first TF live-action movie would be less... cliched.

With the news of the addition of two "HAWT CHIKS" to the cast, I have low expectations to say the least, as it's beginning to look like another high-flash slice of Hollywood cheese. The way it looks now, I feel like it's Titanic and Pearl Harbour all over again, with lots of eye-candy, an eye-roller love story, and very little to do with the actual subject matter.

I'm still hoping that I'll be pleasantly surprised, but at this point, I'm thinkin' I'll wait for the DVD release. Still, it's WAY too early to make any hasty predicitons, so I'm gonna sit back and wait for time to tell.

Well, at least its not a complaint that it will suck because it's not G1.

Personally, I already figured that it would be made as a standard action flick. If we go in expecting this to be the best film since Citizen Kane, we'll be rather dissappointed.

I don't know if it's going to suck, but I'm still hella nervous about it. It really feels like the Transformers will end up as pretty background graphics while the humans go through all the emotional bullshit Hollywood loves to spew.

I can only hope there's a scene where Megatron steps on two cowboys inside a tent.

These "hawt" girls could easily be dressed down and just be average girls. I mean, have you seen North Country? There's this crazy thing called make up. And neither one is going to be a starring role.

I'm looking forward to this movie, the only thing I'm still hung up on is Don M. is a douche.

You should add that next US President is going to suck too, along with the whole next NFL and NBA seasons, the next Harry Potter book AND the movie, the sandwich I'm going to eat for lunch tomorrow, and every TV show and movie for the next 20 years--they're all going to suck like the suckiest thing that ever sucked.

That all remains to be seen. As it stands, we know that one is the love interest of the main human character, and the other is a codebreaker for the military. Neither of these sounds like big roles, more supproting parts.

Obviously any film like this needs a human element for the audience to relate to. The casual moviegoer will want a character that brings them into the action, someone who's viewing all this with the same perspective they are. In X-Men it was Wolverine's role as the outsider seeing all this for the first time. In this it will be Sam, if that's what they are still calling him.

The human character has to have a world that they live in. Hence, girfriend, dad, buying a car, blah blah blah. Then, the Transformers show up and turn that world batshit insane. Without the human element, the audience would just be watching giant robots fight with each other, and have nothing to put it in context.

I reserve judgement until the film is released, but Michael Bay fills me with dread. He has not made a good movie, period.

Possibly. It's also really early to tell anything. At the moment I'm questioning the way they are going about the movie with the whole "boy and his car" thing. But before I judge I wanna see what the movie is like first.

Also no matter what, just because it's Transformers it will be purchased as soon as it comes out on video.

Hmmm, after re-reading my initial post, I realised that I came off as, well... slightly jackass-like.

Let me begin by saying that I really hope there's a strong human element in the film. Random Autobot covered the reasons why a lot better than I could, so I won't bother repeating it.

What I don't want, is for the "hawt gurlz" to be nothing but action-movie stereotypes. You can have secksi actresses in important roles without having them be some sort of cliche sex symbol. However, knowing Bay's work, we may just get just that. No, I'm not expecting Citizen Kane, nor should I, but what I do want is an entertaining TF movie with a well-implemented human element that still manages to keep the Transformers as the main focus.

Do I know if Bay will end up turning this into a chick flick? No, not at all. I can't predict how good the movie will be when we don't even have a trailer yet. Do I worry about it regardless? Yes, a little. I can't help it. All this worrying is probably for naught, and I do hope it is, but nonetheless, I can't help but fret that it'll turn out being exactly what I hate.

Meh, I'm just spouting nonsense again. I need a nap.

I love how people are all judging a movie before we have really seen or heard anything substantial about it. I mean were condemning it before anything has really taken off the ground.

Ya it could suck no question, but common, what’s the point of getting all huffy. If this is going to be your attitude from the beginning why even bother commenting on it in the first place, I mean your minds already made up right?

Anyway, personally I’m skeptical myself, I think it will be ok, as a TF fan I like were getting a movie, sure it may not be all that great but frankly I’ll make that judgment July 4 2007.

I think we should also be putting a positive spin on this even if it does suck. I mean I’m sure we’ll get at the very least some killer toys out of it, not to mention it might FINALLY bring the cartoon back here to North America were it belongs. So ya it might suck, but these are just some of the positives that could still come out.

I dont know, if the fans dont make their concerns heard, who will? I think Lazerbeak is on the right track as far the movie not needing stereotype characters. Further, Michael Bay is hardly known for his character development, it will be a shame if this movie is watered down with "action" scenes that dont involve robots; if we want that we can watch ANY other movie.

I feel it is important that this movie have some big name actors. That right there will help give it a good start. If it is full of no name actors, then it will be clawing it's way to survive. Many people will then assume that it is just some other cheesy B movie. Seeing who we are getting, and the few tidbits from the inside (although it could all be BS) my outlook on this movie is getting brighter.

Hot chicks will not ruin the movie unless they're given roles as prominent and as cheesy as Denise Richards in the Bond movie (shudders). While I do take issue with Rachel Taylor's codebreaker character, I doubt she'll ruin the movie, but I cannot fathom why sex appeal would be a crucial element to the character as it is written... but if Megan Fox is dressed down a bit to look like the cute girl next door, she'll be quite appropriate for that part, so I can accept at least one hottie in the movie based on current information.

Who knows, Rachel Taylor might be a hologram or android planted by the Decepticons - that's a plot point I could agree with :)

Not to derail, but I also found the following contrasting quotes funny from this thread.

Just to keep on the subject of the girls for a moment - I dont think that Rachael Taylor is going to be anywhere near a "Bond Girl" for this movie (even with how she is described). I have seen "candids" of her and in those she has more of a "plain" (but still beautiful) look. The picture we have of her here is glammed up A LOT. Megan Fox, however, is the more "centerfold" of the two - the FHM girl, the hottie that knows it, etc. Taylor may have a more prominent role, but I dont see either one making such an impact in the movie as to distract from its main focus. I just see them as the "human eye candy" or the bit players that move the scenes along.
