Looks Sweet but 1 question?? Do you have to remove the legs to transform him or do they just flip forward? If the come off to transform then its a waste of a good sculpt for me.

According to CDNShockwave, it's going for $160...

From the pics, it looks like it has the same transformation process for the legs as do the 1/48 line... So here's hoping that's the case... :thumb

ITS PERFECT TRANSFORMATION NO PARTS REMOVAL FOR TRANSFORMATION~!!!

Though its smaller scale, the physical toy itself is a bit longer in fighter mode than the 1/48 VF-1 and roughly similar in size in battroid mode.

In true scale, the VF-0 dwarfs the VF-1 by a considerable measure. So a 1/48 VF-0 would be substantially bigger than the 1/48 VF-1 moreso than the 1/60 VF-0 already is as it is.

Positive proof? Ken, this one is perfect transformation man, the 1/100 that got CANNED(thank god that thing was a monstrocity!) was SUPPOSED to have removable parts, and it did. For a while we heard nothing of it and found out it was cancelled.

Then out of nowhere yamato posted up autocad drawings of a perfect variable 1/60 VF-0S. If you go to macross compendium it should say perfect variable and its stated across the japanese boards and of course macrossworld. In fact the mere fact that it was perfect variable has been known for quite some time now. The 1/48 VF-1 and 1/60 VF-0 seem to have very similar transformations EXCEPT, due to kawamori's design, the VF-0 may actually have a simpler transformation(the VF-1's hands as by design retract into the forearms, the VF-0's hands do not retract at all, and the heatshield for the VF-1 internally folds, while the VF-0's shield does not go internal at all, merely bends and is on the top fueselage in fighter mode instead of tucking underneath the chest plate like the VF-1(EXACTLY how it is in the anime boys so this thing is pretty darn accurate as well).

I myself am waiting on initial qc reports before I put in some money on this thing. But man its tempting...cept for that high price!

I am in the same boat King. I have all of the Toynami line of Valks and Alphas and am wondering on if I should pull out $160.00 on this fig. It looks great and all but if I bought this one I would have to get others that came out in teh same scale and detail and that would cut back on my TF funds. So I dont know yet and my wife was looking at me with that "Dont even ask to increase your toy fund money" look. So probly not but maybe just that one. Arrrrrg I dont know!?!?!?!

There's an instore display of the vf-0s next to some 1/48 vf-1 valks. He's almost the same size. This looks REALLY promising!

Notes on the Yamato 1/60 VF-0S Toy:

While the Yamato 1/60 scale VF-0S toy shares the same basic transformation mechanism as the Yamato 1/48 scale VF-1 series, the VF-0S toy is known to have several new design improvements over the 1/48 VF-1, as listed below: -

The cockpit seat rotates so that the pilot figure is facing the correct way in both Fighter & Battroid Modes. Rotation has to be done manually, it is not automatic. AWESOME!!!

The rear landing gears have a locking feature to prevent them from collapsing. Finally fixed it!!!

The rear landing gears angle outward when opened.

The torso has some sort of sliding function on the chest piece to make the Battroid torso look shorter. SWEET!!!

The leg-mounted FAST packs attach by magnet. KICK ASS!!!

The head lasers can be spread out (angled outwards) in Battroid mode by approximately 5mm (they are parallel to each other in Fighter mode). WHOA!!!

The backpack hinge should be more durable than on the 1/48.

Other features of note are:

The toy is due for release in April 2006.

The MSRP is ¥16,800.00.

The nose-mounted pitot tube is detachable, but can also be rotated 180º backwards. WOW!!!

The material of the nose-mounted pitot tube is still to be confirmed, but it is not ABS, die-cast zinc, POM or PVC (stay tuned).

Detachable left and right leg FAST Packs are included.
12 x AIM-200A missiles are included. YEEHAW!!!

The Skull squadron emblems will be Tampo printed on both sides of the tail fins and also on the heat shield.

The '301' number will be Tampo printed on the wing and both sides of the nose.

The UN Spacy 'Kite emblem' will be Tampo printed on the wing.

The plastic of the production version of the VF-0S will have a more glossy finish (similar to 1/48 VF-1) than the pre-production version shown here. This is because the insides of the molds will not be chemically polished until the last minute, after any necessary dimensional changes have been made.

Die-cast metal parts include the landing gear struts, the LERX and the swing-bar. What's LERX???

The pilot has full length legs and feet (unlike the 1/60 VF-1 pilots). WOOHOO!!!

While the length of the VF-0S Fighter mode is similar or slightly longer than the 1/48 VF-1, the 1/60 VF-0S Battroid height should be ever so slightly shorter (about 1cm). ROCK ON!!!
Reading this has simply made my day... :rock

now which company's valkyries were known to be of notoriously poor quality, was it yamato's or toynami's? also, what was macross zero? I'm VERY interested in this, but my macross knowledge is only of the macross plus movie and the robotech run (I know, I know...)

Both toy lines have their flaws, much like Takara and Hasbro... Now as far as the design argument goes, I prefer Yamato over Toynami ANY DAY... But the thing is, Yamato is also a LOT MORE EXPENSIVE than Toynami... I have two Yamato valkyries and they're awesome...

Macross Zero is the latest installment of the Macross anime... It's basically about the time before everything went to shit...

Toynami's vaks were much more expensive than yamato's 1/60 VF-1.

The VF-1 1/48 by yamato is the closest to perfect rendition of a valkyrie by far and you mineswell by a 1/48 than spend money on a 1/60 and a toynami MPC.

Toynami is known for pretty bad quality and price gouging. Their later releases were not as bad but they need a lot of work done nonetheless. The sad thing is that the toys themselves are decent but plagued by ridiculous prices and questionable quality control.

An LERX stands for Leading Edge Root Extension. Its the black and yellow angled wing like structures protruding from the chestplate to the cockpit. Basically an extension to the wing near the front to connect it to the fueselage

After looking closly at the legs they look to be exactly like my firts Yamato VF-1S Valk. The legs are on a pivot joint that again looks exactly like the VF-1S I have and you put them on by removing the legs. Unlike Toynami where you have a metal are that swings down to put the leg in its place when going from Fighter to Battleoid modes you dont see that here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v87/kenm2474/zeros3-medium.jpg
If you look at the top picture compaird to this picture if any of you had some of the removable leg Valks they had a little plastic cover to put into the leg peg hole to cover it up when not in use and there is what seems to be the same cover right below the number 3 where that leg fits in. I just dont see any other way to get the leg from Fighter to Battleoid without removing it?

Well. Macross Zero is a prequel. Its basicly before the VF1 crashed to Earth and about Roy Fokkers exploits during WW3.

Macross Zero is a great series.

Similarly there is a HIGHLY detailed and intricate transformation scene in EP1.

The legs are attached to "levers" that unhinges the engines/legs and connects them to the cockpit for Battroid mode.

I got the Toyami Alphas too and I am keeping them MISB for eternity lol. I am going to display my Bandai Valks however they are less expensive and more stable so I've heard. I too have to watch my toy budget I've exceeded it last month and need to cut down some. Marvel Legends and Sigma 6 occupy a big portion of my collection and it's tough not to buy them when I see them on the shelves. But since I stopped going to clubs or drinking with my friends and haven't bought any new clothes or going on trips it's not so bad. I rather spend money on tangible stuff than wasting it all on alcohol (not that I drink that much).

I bought one Yamato Valk the Macross Plus (forgot the number) but wasn't impressed by it. The arms were awkward in transformation that's why I decided to collect Toyami instead. I agree they sell them too expensive but I was determined to collect all the Valk of a line so I got them all along with Alphas that came later. I usually don't spend $100+ on a toy unless it's really special and as cool as that figure is I just can't bring myself to want to get it.

The way it's done with the 1/48 Yamato Valks is that the whole legs+rod assembly flips over from the back of the jet all the way too the nose on a large metal arm.
The pics you show are perfectly consistent with the construction of the 1/48 Valks. Indeed Yamato has already said that the VF-0S uses the exact same transformation scheme as the VF-1x series with some extra improvements that have already been posted here.

I'm not too fond of the magnetic Fastpack idea btw. They tried magnetic joints for the legs at one point and that was a horrible failure. Granted, the fastpacks aren't a vital part of the overall construction.

Gawd... I love that thing so much. He's like... he's like Baron Jetfire VonBadass IV. I, too, would like to see the swingbar, but cannot imagine that Yamato would charge this much for a toy that big and NOT have it be a Perfect Transformation item. There's no doubt in my mind, I just wanna see the mechanism. I'm madly in love with my 1/48 VF-1S, and this monstosity appears even more intricate. It's gonna be hellish to resist buying it.
