Rules prevent me from posting a link to the torrent, but if you download anime, you should already know where to get this.
A shortened "digest" version of the first episode of the new Hellsing OVA is now available. It's in that stupid-ass Matroska format so make sure you have the proper codecs installed. Word round the campfire is the full version will be released in Japan on February 10, but this one is worth watching. Well worth watching. In fact, if you don't watch it, then you are a shitfucker who doesn't like good things. I just watched it myself, and in the words of the immortal Butt-Head, "This is the coolest thing I have ever seen." I'm too giggly right now to articulate any further.

It was pretty sweet for a restart a mix old hellsing, cell shaded 3d and modern day shonenen anime styles.

I was dissapointed by the way they changed the animation style. It looked better in the original version. More dark and moody than this one.
That being said, I'd still recomend it to anyone even remotely interested in anime or vampires. The new/modified stuff they did was pretty cool. They seemed to have added a bit more humour to it, which worked overall as well. I also though celas victoria was pretty cool when she started to go into predator mode a bit when killing those ghouls

I really liked it, flows more with the manga. Can't wait to see the rest.

I'm just starting to get back into anime, could someone give me an idea of what this is about? this isn't the first time I've heard hellsing's praises.

In a nutshell it is about the Hellsing Orginization and its tame vampires hunting down and killing undead threats against England. Its also about looking as cool as possible while doing so. Its a fun series. The original OVA covered the first part of the manga through episode 6 or 7 before creating a new story for the last half of the show. This digest episode of the new OVA covers about half of what the original OVA covered from the manga.

Nope, totally different. That was Van Hellsing, based (loosely) on the vampire hunter who led the mission to defeat Dracula in the original Bram Stoker novel, and has since gained something of a mythic status among vampire hunters.
This is a vastly different story, which nothing to do with Van Hellsing, save that his name happens to be the name of the organisation.

Here's an idea, how about i just wait for a english dubbed version with Crispin Freeman returning to the roll of Arucard to be shown on hmm action channel purhaps? surely they will try and get this since they were the ones who showed the old one hehe unless CN and Adult Swim butt in and get it.

If it's true that this OVA will be closer to the manga then Van Helsing is slightly involved. It seems to imply that Hellsing occurs after Bram Stoker's dracula as it refferences Mina Harker and Dracula's defeat.

I downloaded it and I was unimpressed. It seemed to be fifty minutes of people mostly yammering in Japanese while pulling really stupid expressions. The fight scenes where uninspired and dull. I fail to see the awesome.
Overall I find the orignal series to be much more interesting, even though my subbed version doesn't seem to make a bit of sense.

The dream is actually from volume 4 of the manga. The rest of this is based on volume 2 of the manga and had a lot of new stuff added.
Not sure if you already knew that but I'll post it just in case anyone here has only seen the oVA and not read the manga.

So this is like a remake, with it following the manga instead of dropping it halfway?

The ratio is roughly one volume per episode, with the manga panels acting as storyboards. It's almost as faithful as Monster was to its source material, and that's a very high standard.
Optimus
09-04-2006, 08:19 AM
Heck, in some places in OVA 1, stuff was lifted straight from the panels.
