Looks like Nintendo really does have a update of the DS coming soon (March 2 2006 in Japan). Sounds like new thing in it is its 4 stages of brightness. Im not too sure about the appearance of the new DS, but if I can play it in the sunlight, I may have to go pick one up.

Is this like the Diet Coke of Nintendo DS?

Don't ask me; all I know is I blew my budget just to get my DS after Christmas and I ain't buyin' another version of it unless it's five years from now and they've done something even more miraculous with the games or something... Besides I like my electric blue DS just fine and don't need multiple toned versions for my different moods. :ev:

I'll stick with my normal DS.. I never buy any of Nintendo's "updated" handhelds.

What is with Nintendo and these "updates" to portable consoles? Isn't the point of a redesign and an update to entice more people to buy it? It's not even getting an atractive redesign. It looks like a slightly slimmer DS. Charging more for it is not going to entice me to buy one at all. It's not like their adding anything extravagent to it, like bigger screens or anything. Oooh, you can adjust the screen brightness. Should have been there from the first one. Dumb.

It's cool, but I don't need it. I mean, I had the original GBA and never upgraded to the GBA SP (I did end up with 2 SPs at one point, but I never bought it).

I got a question though. When you open up the Lite, is it flat with the new hinge? That would be cool, so the pictures that uses both screens can actually line up nicer.

I've found myself playing my DS quite frequently lately. Mostly the GBA slot though. I refuse to buy an "updated" version of a handheld I only use when I'm in the bathroom taking a shit.

Mmmm yeah I'll stick with my SP thanks. Not a fan of the DS anyway.

Still doesn't make me want one. Maybe when they're in the bargain bin.

Guess they're doing this to match the revolution.

looks nice. It keeps the same basic form factor of the DS but makes it smaller and I'd assume brighter. Depends on weather or not it keeps the GBA slot though, as to weather or not I'll get it. Then there's hacking the firmware. Don't know if it'll be possible on the new one. It's already a pain to do on the red and blue DSs. (Fortunately I have classic silver)

yeah, it really does have the revolution/ipod look. it's possible i might get one and my current ds could go to my 6 year old, depends on how good it looks in person.

I thought Nintendo said they weren't redesiging the DS?

Yup, I was right:

Despite the widespread rumours of a redesign, the company has been remarkably secretive about the DS Lite so far - even with its own staff, with Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton telling Eurogamer two days ago that "we haven't got any plans at the moment - nothing I know of" when pressed on the question of a DS redesign.

He also said his staff would "probably throttle" him if they did have one to deal with. So, er, we wish him all the best with that.

I'm guessing Nintendo have a magic number in sales that when they reach the console get's a redesign.

Oh and it's also been annonced that it's coming to Europe:

Nintendo releases new Game Boys more often than Apple releases OS's.

That's saying something.

I don't think it's the same thing, but Bubba the Love Sponge challenged some guy to a "cock off" on Howard 100. Basically, who's dick made the most noise when slapped against the microphone.

Valkysas

the new DS will have a GBA slot. in japan, there's all kinds of DS peripherals that connect through the slot (like the DS Rumble Pak Thingy), so if they took it out, that would handicap a lot of games.

I guess that would explain why kids with the DS in Indiana can play that game, as the PSP doesn't have a mic.
