According to www.the-magicbox.com, PS2 owners will be getting a nice treat this summer.

Capcom announced Street Fighter Alpha Anthology for PlayStation 2, a compilation of the 5 classic arcade fighting games Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, Street fighter Alpha 3, and Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix [Pocket Fighter] (fighting game featuring super deformed characters). Street Fighter Alpha Anthology will be released in summer 2006.

I for one can't wait for this. I finally won't have to dig thru my collection to find those old Street Fighter Alpha games, I can just pop in a PS2 disc and play 'em ! And including a rare game like Pocket Fighter... Very nice.

there was a "sfa2 dash" or something like that on the ps1, theres so many suffixes.

this is quite exciting. i presume it'll get a uk release. i'm waiting for marvel vs capcom 3, bring back 2b backgrounds!

It was Zero 2 alpha, it was released on the PS1 as Alpha 2 gold and will be in this collection as that as well. I have also heard that it is due for the Xbox.

I wonder if they'll keep the team mode on Alpha one. I loved that aspect of the game. Spent countless nights in the dorm playing with my dormmates, only to fall asleep at 5 am and miss all my classes. Gotta love academic probation!

Shin-Gouki
01-26-2006, 08:11 AM
it was in A2G as well

smangerbot
01-26-2006, 08:27 AM
nah man, it came with super street fighter 2 as well, i think it was called "street fighter alpha 2 dash"

Shin-Gouki

No it was in Street Fighter Collection (The First One) on the PSX and Saturn. I have it, I am also an arcade technician and know my Arcade History. The first collection was Super Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold (Which is Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha I have the Arcade Board and the PSX version)

Shin-Gouki
01-26-2006, 09:38 AM
I found something on this, it was released as Street Fighter Zero 2 Dash in some countries, I had forgotten about this, my Japanese Saturn version is in storage and I never looked at the title, I assumed it was Zero 2 Alpha like the Arcade version.

smangerbot
01-26-2006, 09:59 AM
ah right. it was a 2 disc set that came with 2 different versions of street fighter 2 as well.

alpha 2 dash had some wierd 'akuma' mode or something like that...

Shin-Gouki
01-26-2006, 10:07 AM
yep that's it, funny this is the first I have heard of an Alpha 2 Dash. Alpha 2 Gold, Zero 2 Alpha, and Zero 2 Dash were the only ones I kew about. Damnit!!! Now I have to get another version!!!

01-26-2006, 10:09 AM

I'll probably end up waiting for the inevitable xbox version, since it'll have online play. I"m disappointed that it doesn't have the puzzle fighter on it though.

I had alpha 3 on the PS1 and spent many nights playing it with my best friend. the game was a tad unbalanced unless we set some ground rules like not picking the souped up evil Ryu or akuma I'd built on the challenge mode.

still, alpha 3 was my favorite if only for having every street fighter at that point as a selectable character.

Shin-Gouki

I'm hopeing for this Alpha 3 to have the extra characters from the PSP version

Small world so am I. I wasn't expecting to find someone else here.

On topic, I will most likely get this.

And whats all the good parts of Alpha Zero 2 Gold whatchamacallit compared to normal Alpha 2?

Sweet. Not as sweet as if they started making the last Street Fighter Anthology for PS2 again, but still sweet. I never played any of the Alpha games, but I will diffinately buy it.

Alpha 2 gold had cammy in it if you beat the game with bison and used certain initials. Beyond that, I don't remember there being a whole lot different from the original. I think as stated before there was a tag battle mode, but I don't remember if that was in the original alpha 2 as well

The extra psp characters in alpha 3 are eagle, maki, and I think yun. Since their sprites were already set up for snk vs capcom 2, capcom decided to throw them in for alpha 3 bonuses on the psp

Any idea if they might add something to Pocket Fighter? If they'll add characters to SFA3 and to Pocket Fighter, I'll have to cave and buy this. I'm a sucker for extra characters. If only Capcom would also release it on the Dreamcast in Japan...

Shin-Gouki
01-27-2006, 08:53 PM
Yun, Maki and Eagle, from Capcom vs. SNK 2, as well as Ingrid from Capcom Fighting Evolution

If only they had added the first Street Fighter, with playable bosses, to the SF Annivesary Collection! I guess there's always the possibility of some crazy 20th anniversary collection or something. They still have the original (that they need to reprogram to have playable bosses like I said), the first two versions of SF3, seperate versions of all the SF2 games (even though there are some on the new Capcom collection), Puzzle Fighter, and I guess one of the goofy EX games they could throw on to another collection.

Anyway, I'll definitely be buying this. I love Alpha 3, and while I have Alpha 2 Gold on the old SF collection for PS that you guys have been talking about, it'll be great to play it without the evil load times.

Since we're on the subject, I wish they could've added an option in the SF Anniversary Collection to make the Super/Super Turbo characters and announcers have the original voices, because I hate that high pitched crap :( I'd like to be able to turn the danger music off as well. They should have made it where in arcade mode the computer actually picks different versions of the characters and not just Super Turbo! ALSO, the damn bonus stages needed to be put back, and they should've had the option of choosing between the different versions of all the stages instead of just having the Super versions. THEN it would've felt like a complete SF2 collection.

Yeah right though, we know how lazy Capcom is :( With those extra features it would've been that much cooler though, to me!

Hopefully they can release a collection for X-Box/PlayStation of their other fighters at some point, a collection with Warzard/Red Earth, Cyberbots, Darkstalkers, and maybe Rival Schools or something would be pretty cool!

I'm ramblng :(

There already is a Vampire Hunter (Darkstalkers) Collection for PS2 in Japan.

Ktulu
01-30-2006, 03:41 PM
I know that. It'd be nice to have an official US release though. I realize the PSP thing is out also but bleh!

I really meant it'd be a cool addition, atleast DS3, on a collection with Warzard/Red Earth and Cyberbots and maybe something else, just a general fighting game collection. It'd be a more well known title to provide a little more incentive to buy maybe.

As if it'd happen

I just think it'd be cool.

OmegaSaber

Oh I agree, frankly the more 2D fighting we get on next gen consoles the better in my opinion. It's sad to say, but as far as most of these companies are concerned the genre's just about dead from the looks of things. Might as well put a slew of collections out for the last hurrah.

Nothing Official but I have a friend from H.S. that worked for Capcom on SF and now works for Sammy and when I last talked to him (Christmas) they were still working on it.

Ktulu
01-31-2006, 01:01 AM
Hmm, cool. Maybe it'll really blow us all out of the water.

I wonder if there's any chance Capcom will make a Capcom Fighting Evolution 2. Apparently the first sold decently in Japan. Usually when they do second editions to their games they're much better than the original one, so it would have that going for it atleast, plus there's plenty of character and gameplay possibilities to jazz it up from the first, which is much needed! I doubt they care enough to bother though.

Shin-Gouki
01-31-2006, 01:05 AM
I would not doubt it as they are talking about porting the first one to the Arcade on the Atomiswave

Ktulu
01-31-2006, 01:23 AM
If they do make a second one, in my opinion it needs these games added to it: Final Fight (moving Guy out of SFA group into this one and include Haggar, Cody, and Hugo or Rolento), Rival Schools, Cyberbots, and maybe Star Gladiator, as well as possibly adding a VS Series/"misc." group for general Capcom characters. The game would live up to it's title more then.

Some of those would require new sprites though...meaning that probably won't happen, not exactly like that anyway.

Ktulu
02-06-2006, 06:06 AM
Any SFAlpha/Zero games you own on PSone will definitely be worth the repurchase on this PS2 collection as long as they're arcade perfect ports as promised. The original PS versions have some pretty harsh load times, so the sheer convenience of having them play more smoothly given the more powerful hardware is certainly worth throwing some money at if you ask me.

smangerbot
02-06-2006, 06:12 AM
yeah, agreed, plus they cut out alot of animation.

That game does kick all kinds of ass, it definitely needs to be put on a future Capcom collection disc if they make any more.
