I want to be unoriginal and call him Sonic. Girl says no. It's her Valentines Day present. Pictures tomorrow.
p.s. Hedgehog poop smells.

I used to have a hedgehog and was unoriginal enough to name him Sonic.
Take him to a vet and get him checked out though, they get tumors somewhat commonly....that's how mine died.

Shadow!!! Yes, still unoriginal, but at least it's different...:p
sonic, yes. paint him blue, get him red booties.
oh, and a painted hard boiled egg nemesis plaything/pet.
I stand by my earlier text message.

Call him pointy pete, the spikey ball creature.
i propose "buying the hedgehog" be appropriated/adopted into normal TFW2005 postings, like such phrases "bought the farm", "kick the bucket", etc.
all in favor say aye. alternative definitions welcomed.

Get a sturdy cage lid that locks down tight. When I had my hedgehog, he'd escape at least once a month. Ever try and get a hedgehog out from under a dress when he doesnt want to go? :thumbdown

you do know they're nocturnal, right? I volunteered at a nature center, and they had one, but it was no fun because it slept during the day when all the visitors came. actually, it was kinda fun, because I would still take it out of the cage and it would wobble around all sleepy-like.

Remember to watch what you feed it.
I think from memory bread and milk are dangerous to them, but they love dog and cat food.

So far his name is either Henry, Horatio (my choice), or Hector. She wants to keep it with an "H" ... she refuses to let me call him "Hedgehog" or "Hedgey".
We bought him this big cage thing ($80) and then tore up some newspaper and gave him some pine chips to sleep on. Also gave him food, a rawhide shoe dog toy (they love rawhide), and then this honey/nut thing that came with the cage. Girlfriend couldn't sleep so I went and laid down with her and ended up sleeping till right about now.
Hedgehog has since pushed all the pine chips out of his wooden house inside the cage, dragged ALL of the newspaper in, moved his rawhide shoe in to his bowl, and somehow got on top of his house and poo'd on it.
Fucking hedgehog.

Actually if you bug them often enough during the day it's possible to get them to stay awake during the day and sleep at night.

Hey Kickie,
For your Hedgehog you might want to try the following: This works extremely well with my Prairie Dog, and I actually did a ton of research on them before I bought him. Just a few suggestions.
-Stay away from cedar chips (can actually make your animal stuff up and get congested-may even lead to death)
-Pine chips are okay but I would actually recommend Yesterdays News for a poop box. I actually use a combination for my P-Dog. I cannot think of what it is called, but it 100% recycled and 100% dust and contaminent free specifically made for rodents and small creatures. Dust can be very bad for your little creature.
-I keep my little dude in a huge cage with a pull-out tray so he can't shit on himself. Actually, he is pottie trained and your little dude probably will train himself as well.
-For his bedding, which he stuffs in his log cabin, I use old t-shirts and socks which he loves (lint free). I wash them once a week when I clean him. I will actually keep the t-shirts and socks for several months before I throw them away. Sometimes he will go to the bathroom on them, and than I will throw them out.
Let me know if I can be of any help.
