60 playable characters in a fighting game? Unheard of. But according to the latest issue of Game Informer, Midway plans to exit the current generation stage on a high note. Mortal Kombat Armageddon will feature "all the characters from Mortal Kombat fighting history," with the possible exception of Motaro. And if that's not enough, players can tinker with the new Create a Kombatant mode.

In addition, Armageddon will feature a revamped fatality system, mid-air combos, direction-controlled throws, and a Konquest mode based on the Shaolin Monks engine. Armageddon strikes in October for the PS2 and Xbox.

Cool stuff. I really liked MK Deception. And what little I played of Shaolin Monks was quite good. I am quite excited.

Might be the first MK game I will actually buy.

Looks like the plauge of oversized and poorly balanced character rosters has spread to 3D in spectacular style.

I'll wait for this one to hit the bargain bins.

Every character? Then that means... STRYKER! HELLS YEAH! :rock :rock

I love Rain's new look. With him in the game, they've finally made the palette-swappers unique. Although Sektor still looks like a recolored Cyrax, but that makes sense considering the story.

Considering the raging Shao Kahn/Reiko debate, I wonder how many diehard fans will be pissed off by Reiko's new look.

Create a fighter sounds cool. Then again, create a character modes usually do sound cool.

I have a feeling Motaro won't make the cut because he'd be a bit difficult to pull off in the Deadly Alliance/Deception game engine.

I'm definitely getting this game. I've been an MK fan for ages, and I like Deadly Alliance and Deception, so it's just natural to finish the story.

Blah, hopefully there'll be a Gamecube version released with some 'new' characters (Motaro?) down the road.

2D or 3D? I have never really enjoyed the 3D versions.

My only MK experience is MK 1 on the Master System, and more recently MK Gold on the Dreamcast. But 60 playable characters does sound pretty cool.

why no motaro?

His design. The whole centaur thing is a bit hard too pull off against a bunch off two legged fighters.

So the game will have 20 Scorpion-ninja characters and 20 Sektor-ninja robots ? Not bad.

Yes, I exaggerate.

Sounds fun. I'll have to wait until I see a finished product though. I miss 2D fighters...

It looks to me like they're MK:DA/Deception-ing all the pallette-swap guys. Like, giving them a personal costume redesign so they aren't just a recolour.

The Deadly Alliance and Deception were both -surprisingly- decent to play, considering the series' roots, so I've got good hopes for this one.

Sounds good, kind of like MK Trilogy. In a related note, I picked up MK: Deception Kollector's ed. yesterday for the Xbox. Great game, for those who haven't played, imho .

GRRRR. Stop shafting the gamecube you bastards.

Well this might be the first MK I skip. At least until the Xbox drops rediculously low in price.

it'll get ported to the GC eventually.

xbox will not drop in price its too expensive to produce since they have to buy all the parts instead of making it themselves. they'll cease production in a year or so I'll bet.

ps2 will hit 99 or lower by the time this comes out though.

I got limited enjoyment out of the last two MK tourney games (nothing like MK1 and 2). I would like to say that I won't pick this up but I most likely will.

I never really got past MK II for my Genesis.

But I still remember the classic ABACABB cheat for MKI. Good times, back in the mid 90's.

Hell, I have the Sega CD version (or the Genesis version with video, more voices, and the code already built in version)

60 isn't really that unheard of, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 had almost that many, and as was already pointed out, a shit load of the MK characters are just the same person colored different ways and such. Sure, they did some of that in Capcom fighters, but it wasn't abused nearly as much as with MK.

Anyway, I'm not a fan of MK anymore, but I might give it a try.

it'd be cool if they had a cyber ninja version of subzero as unlockable extra :)

Sounds good. I particularly liked MK: Deception, and the options sound like a lot of fun. Shao Khan Vs. Dragon King, Shujinko Vs. Shang Tsung, etc.
